Trust me, R5 is TOTALLY sufficient for most people. I have the R9 and only use a bit of its maximum potential. Also, there are many T150, T300, G29, G27, G25 racers who achieve INCREDIBLE lap times without tons of FFB.
Just watched some of your videos, cool stuff! Maybe one day I will get to a level of being competitive! Thanks for commenting. I agree R5 is way above my skill level already!
The default level of ffb on my R5 (capped to 20%) is perfectly fine for me, which is right in the sweet spot of immersion and arcadey comfort. It's still plenty strong without breaking your hands/mount.
Yeah well, that's the thing. 9Nm is the peak torque. It's the limit of the motor. If you're using max force all the time it's going to clip, lose detail, overheat and fade. You need the torque headroom to prevent this from happening and that's why the weaker bases make little sense. People will buy a 5nm wheelbase and set them to max torque after a week because that's what feels the best to them. That's why the Moza R5 and the CSL DD have so may overheating issues in longer races. I mean, just look it up. It's a known issue.
@SinisterSpatula Glad it was helpful! Although check my other overheating video everyone thinks I'm in an anti moza conspiracy now because my wheelbase was clipping : ) I stand by my comments from this video that its fine to clip when its detail you dont need!
Appriciate your insight on the never ending cycle of "I could spend a bit more" I did the exact same thing and the total cost was coming out at nearly £1000! I bit the bullet and order the R5 bundle after seeing this reivew and a couple others, thanks very much :)
I just got mine Sunday so I haven't even had it a full week yet but I have to tell you I'm absolutely in love with it and with the arm workout that I get with just the 5.5 I can't imagine why I would want more than that.
@@MichaelSmithRaces what games are you playing? In aserto corsa wall impact is not transferred through to wheel on my device. It was with Logitech. What settings do I need to adjust for that impact sensation in the wheel
I have both assetas and quite a few other games but i seam to favor forza 5 . I've got The handling is so dialed in. For me the fun factor is through the roof for me
I love it. It's so versatile if you actually use your desk for other things (like most people that dont want to spend over £1000 on simracing gear). The table clamp is excellent and the quick release is so solid. I sold my CSL DD for this and not disappointed at all.
@@nicolabaccillieri6503 admittedly I only had the 5nm. Resolution felt a little better with the CSL, however the smoothness of the Moza is so much more of a factor in terms of immersion - the CSL has a notching like feel (you can feel it every 10 degrees rotation or so). Sim racing 604 probably has the best comparative review. In my experience, I found the size of the CSL also meant I was sitting far too back from the screen (again, not having a rig was a major factor). It also flexed way too much, the Moza in comparison is completely solid.
I've had my R5 bundle for maybe almost a year now I was upgrading from a g29 which is in itself a great little setup. Direct drive is so much better. If anyone is on the fence and worried about the money just get the R5 bundle it's worth it. I would suggest getting a wheel stand tho like the omega apex because direct drive will tear your desk apart. Also the R5 crap pedals that come box with it are VERY basic. I would at least suggest getting the moza spring kit for the brake pedal.
Wow! I just clicked on the video straight away without looking at any views, subs and all of that stuff. I bought the r5 but want to know a bit more. I have to say: you revived it like you have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Wow great video!
Nice review! Just got the Moza R5 myself couple weeks back. Finally upgraded from Logitech G25 since I felt the price point was decent. Could not recommend this enough, just the smoothness of the force feedback alone is a game changer! For any new people thinking about getting into sim racing, my advice would be to find second hand Logitech bundle. They are widely available and cheap and after that if you enjoy the racing and you feel you might want more, start saving up for direct drive wheel like the Moza R5. Can prolly sell the Logitech around the same price you bought it. Personally I would not buy the gear driven Logitech wheels with retail prices at this point.
Does yours show the pedals are disconnected until you hit the gas or brake? Then it shows connected when I hit the gas. Drops within 1 second after letting go. Is that normal?
@@matthamilton3396 No, they show as connected all the time. Tho I haven't had time to play during summer time, probably there has been software updates since the last time I used my sim rig. But still, sounds a bit weird and I reckon this should not be happening.
Looking at getting this wheel myself upgrading from the Logitech G29. Seeing a user over review over a few months rather then out of the box is a great help in making up my mind further. welcome to the 100 sub club
@@thecodex0994 oh rip my friend. I'm new to sim racing but in my country the G29 is weirdly expensive. So I'm thinking to just send it and go for the Moza R5 right away xD
It's all good for me with my R5 bundle. Just ordered the newly released 12" wheel for the R5. I don't want the wheel to break my arms, I just want to be able to feel what's going on the track. The R5 does that in spades. From the G29 I could barely stay on the track, to the R5 and won 2 races. Big difference. Love this bundle.
Nice ot hear from someone upgrading from G29! I will probably get the wheel mods sometime, how hard are they to change, would you consider changing it back and forth regularly, or is it too much work for that?
Does yours show the pedals are disconnected until you hit the gas or brake? Then it shows connected when I hit the gas. Drops within 1 second after letting go. Is that normal?
I have the R5 Bundle. I upgraded from a Thrustmaster T150. I have the brake mod installed, I even upgraded the springs, formula wheel mod installed. This bundle is great.
Appreciate the review brother it was clear to most people moza just giving the wheels out to people to gain traction but also good to know what your getting
Half the reason I just went with the R5 bundle is that I couldn't easily find the T300-RS bundle in the last week but it sounds like I won't have many regrets (besides console compatibility)
Thank you @derekl190 although they did subsequently reach out to me and give me an affiliate code & some free products since making this review. Its a very problematic industry that I'm trying to figure out myself! Hope they review helped you!
Just got my Moza R5 and omg drifting is so much smoother and easier to read. Upgraded from a Logitech g920 and the r5 seems to do an amazingly sweet spot.
I just ordered the R9 to replace my logitech G27. Very much looking forward to the setup to arrive... I already replaced my pedals with the SRP (while using my G27 wheel) and those come with these extra grip pads that you can apply to avoid the pedal system to slide away. I also do a cheap work around by cutting a 2 x 4 piece of wood to act like a spacer for the pedals to lean into as the wood butts against the wall. Been sim racing for 15+ years on the cheap... just sometimes need to get clever to avoid unnecessary expenses. Overall, nice video.
Really liking it a lot. Has great fidelity and a lot of adjustments to fine tune. Also feel more connected to the car. I haven't been able to drive all that much faster with this setup but I am a lot more consistent with it. Time will tell how this holds up... I hope to get many years out of it like my G27.
It is so true, once you are hooked you wanna get better stuff. Personally I regret buying a cheap seat and wheelstand, which is imo the most important asset.
same here, and i even had the touch more expensive ''cockpit'' in the shoppin cart and had the money for it. but figured that it is not that big deal lol. mistakes mistakes
To be fair im still injured so im just looking at this massive thing I cant use all the time and its taunting me constantly to 'just do a little bit of driving'. Cant win either way in this hobby!
I just purchased a r5 bundle can’t wait to see how well it is compared to my thrustmaster tmx. I already have moza srp pedals so hopefully the direct drive helps me be smooth and quicker
Which games do you mainly play Cody? Was there anything specific about the TMX holding you back? You will have to let me know how it feels compared to a belt system, I think it will be significantly better!!
@@MichaelSmithRaces I play iracing dirt cars. I will post my review here when I get them. But the tmx thrustmaster is just clunky and random of vibrations lol
Man I’ve been researching for two days and all I see is people saying yeah that’s great but 5.5Nm isn’t enough, the pedals aren’t great, and so on. CSL DD Ready2Race is the only competitor people give but they have a list of complaints for that too. Basically everyone recommends spending 1 to 2k or more. This is an expensive hobby for sure. Thanks for the great review!
Thanks for the comment! Thats exactly why I made the video, you can always spend more. If you are gaming on PC either the moza or fanatec will be a great starting point, I mean potentially still too expensive, but for me spending 300 on logitech vs 500 on moza was worth the extra, but im not spending 2K on a game!
It's enough man, don't listen to all these sim snobs with r21 and so on. They are more in the bragging hobby than the sim racing hobby. A dangerous path to go down because you have to justify yourself spending all this money and you do that by bashing the cheaper stuff. They are not having more fun, in fact I feel many times they seem bored and miserable even with their 15k rigs for the very reason I mentioned earlier. I have the r5 bundle and I'm having a blast, I feel no need for more power. In fact I lower it in every game because it's too strong and just take away from the enjoyment of driving.
The most affordable direct drive wheel in terms os cost, benefits and design. I have this one with the md wheel and the brake kit . Is important to mention that you need a proper cockpit to play, with it the clamps option could be not enough for the force feedback on a simple desk or basic cockpit
Thanks for this review!! Love it! Straight to the point. I left simracing two yrs ago (i had a SC2 Sport wheelbase and i was so competitive in iR) and now i would like to come back and buy this Bundle just to enjoy some solo laps or driving around. I will probably attach the base directly to the desk and leave stock pedals. Anyway, great review mate! Regards
@@DeltaInsanity nothing sim or game related. I just had no time to prepare any race, so i decided to quit and sell all my (Very expensive) gears. Thats why i’m looking forward to the R5, so i can enjoy it when i have spare time.
@@ZAKNIX1000 ahh gotcha. Well welcome back to sim racing! Yeah these new DD products at an affordable price are very appealing, I'm loving my R9 I got a few months back.
Hello, thanks for the video, i have the moza r5 aswell. I would like to point out some things i think you forgot to say for 7:21. The brakes are indeed doesnt stick to ground wether you have the performance kit or not but in the moza box they include anti slip pads (2 of them) to put them under the metal of the pedals. I don't have the performance kit but i don't think its that necessary. The anti slip pads works really well on floor as i am using like that for a month now it doesnt get that dirty and very easy to clean them. I cleaned them once so far with just water and it even gets stickier when you clean it and put it in same place again. So what i can say is i hope you didnt throw the anti slip pads away! :D
Interesting... definitely nothing else in my box, and I got that replacement, so maybe that is something they added to counteract the slipping! Thanks for the comment!
I had a G25. Then upgraded to loadcell pedals. Now after decades there was a new steering wheel on my list. I bought a Moza R9. I am very satisfied and can recommend it. The only negative point is that it is not supported by all games. However, all the big driving simulations work. Forza Horizon, Nascar Heat and Snowrunner, for example, don't work or don't work properly. Games tested: AC, ACC, American and EuroTruckSim, Automobilista 2, BeamNG, KartKraft, DiRT Rally 2.0, RaceRoom, Wreckfest all good.
the es wheel was working atleast for me for about a couple months before the left paddle would start to show on the software that it’s being pressed down when it’s not. I created a ticket and got a replacement and they even payed for shipping when i had to return it to them. Overall it sucks that it happened but the customer support was excellent!
Thank you for informative video! Do you have the measures for your nice aluminium rig? Or brand name? I have many 80x40 aluminium prfile items, so I d like to build my own. Yours look simple and strong enough.
@richardlaki3800 its the gtomega prime lite, all the measurements are on the website, its been good I have no complaints with it - except I upgraded the pedal tray

I bought the Moza R5 set this Tuesday to replace my noisy, miss/ double shifting up gears, throttle, and brake ghosting Logitech G920. It is a dream to operate, it's smooth, and the silent operation is great. The pit-house software is easy to install and use, tho the pedal settings leave me wondering. You can set a curve from 0 to 100 % in increments of pedal pressure, with me the 100% value does not stay at max yet drops to 0 while at 80% curve, it will stay on the max top of the curve. Why is that, and can I change it in some way? Still need to adjust myself to the brake pedal, which I have upgraded with the s lite brake addon. But sorting out the settings of any wheel and pedal set is imho key,, and is fun to sort out. And since I've got tendon problems (chronic golfing and tennis elbows)in both my elbows and my wrists ( chronic carpal tunnel-like symptoms) and arthritis in my hands, the FFB strength is more than enough for my usage. BTW the kitchen table setup I have, eventually must be replaced by a good rig, oh my poor wallet already is crying LOL
haha yes its a good hobby if you like to keep tinkering with it and adding new stuff! Sorry I cant be much help with the pedal settings as I am away at the moment so I don't have access. Moza support have been very helpful in the past, and you can also join their discord here where you will get some advice very quickly from the community: discord.gg/8M44j2X8
I bought the bundle, brake upgrade, shifter and the USB hub. Thinking I could run everything thru the Hub then just 1 line to the computer. I am not happy. The USB Hub can’t be used with the wheel and pedals, at all. The shifter with not configure because it identifies Reverse and 1st gear both as the same button. I got in touch with Moza and all I am getting is the re-around on returning the Shifter and USB Hub. They admitted the USB Hub is useless with the Moza bundle, and have gone silent by sending me stupid questions to drag out the return process. I will update as things progress or I get stonewalled.
@@MichaelSmithRaces apparently the USB Hubs only use is allow you use a non-Moza wheel with a Moza base. Bugles the mind why they are not clearer in advertising.
@@MichaelSmithRaces the HUB allows you to use Moza gear that can't be connected to your PC via USB and you don't have a Moza base to serve as a middleman. For example, if you want to Moza wheels on a non-Moza base or if you (for whatever reason) want to use SR-P lite pedals.
I got this for home just to desk clamp when I feel like playing for a bit after work or whatever. Its awesome, although at times I wouldn't mind stronger force feedback but it is sufficient and a lot of fun. If I was to ever go to a proper rig setup I would probably get an r16 and dial it down to 9-10nm for certain cars. I'm pretty strong though and I find it entertaining to fight the wheel in a group c car or whatever but I wouldn't want to drive like that very often its pretty hard on your arms! But like you said now to build a high end rig it gets really expensive and my intension was to minimize expense, maximize fun but also I didn't really need a big setup as my goal was to do a bit of sim racing not spend most of my time doing it. There is a sim center near me that I go to with friends like 80 bucks a month gets us 10 hours of play time. There setups are like 25k with D-box motion, 49 inch curved screens etc. They use the r9 there although I think it would be better if they had some r12 or r16s. We can also bring our own vr headsets for it so thats also a plus. I started out with a logitech g27 at home back in 2016, then I got rid of it. couple years later found the sim center been going there for a few years because it made no sense to invest so much money into a rig when I could get a monthly pass. We used to get the unlimited pass for like 110 bucks a month which was an insane deal. Now the r5 bundle came out at a pretty good price point for playing at home and I need to be around the house a bit more these days so thats how I ended up with the r5. If I could recommend a really fun game it would be Raceroom, they have the sound, physics and ffb super dialed. Older graphics engine but my computer is like 9 years old anyway 🤣 cheers
@99MrJ99 that sim center sounds awesome! I hope more pop up with good equipment. Yes I definitely think desk use is fine, but its a gateway drug and then once you are hooked you start the build process, you have done well to restrain yourself! :)
Ι have had this for about 4 months as well, really happy overall. I had also gotten the break kit but it was impossible to use while desk mounted. Νοw I have a Next Level Racing 2.0 stand and I can use the kit. It helps but I am unable to use it for more than short amounts of time because it is so so stiff... I have a leg issue. I wonder if other people really want this amount of pressure. It is ok for track racing but for rallying where you lock easily it allows for very little movement to control the breaking. Another consideration is that I feel the FFB a bit dampened on this stand compared to desk-mounting.. This is a bit worrying but I need to research more about this stand. perhaps it has a bit more flex which is unfortunate and unexpected. Any comments on all this are welcome.
I went full rig because I didnt want to have to upgrade in future and I had a playseat challenge for a bit and I know what you mean that it dampens the feel, in the playseat atleast, because it all flexes and moves around.... I just bit the bullet but the key thing is whether you have space for it, I took over our guest bedroom!
Hi I noticed that the supported game list (5:20) didn't have WRC Generations and Automobilista 2 on there, would this still work with unsupported games? (apologies if a bit daft I'm looking to get a first proper wheel)
@GeordiLaForgery sorry I don't play those games to. confirm, it works with WRC 24, I expect it would work with those two... I doubt Moza can be bothered to list out every single game, but it seems to be a pretty standard input device.
i got the gt omega prime cockpit after i played sim racing for a few months i knew i wanted more so i got a better cockpit before anything else. i love it i now have t300 with rally wheel and loadcell got it right before moza came out with the r9 and stuff
Regarding the strength scaling at 1:40, I don't think that's how it works. If the overall power is lower, it can scale down the whole graph instead of cutting it. So imagine writing 5Nm instead of 21Nm on the left axis. Therefore, you'll still feel a difference in the strength, but the overall power will be lower.
While im not an expert by any means I believe my explanation is correct regarding clipping. What you are saying about scaling is also correct in regards to turning down the strength % so the whole output is reduced at a relative rate. For anyone that wants a better explanation check out Aris Drives "How to FFB" he is the expert!
@@MichaelSmithRaces honestly I tried at least 10 sets of pedals from hydraulic to load cell before i found the VRS DFP PEDALS they were a game changer even better than Huesinkveld plus
Pedals will make you faster, but a responsive wheel like any direct drive will make you more consistent than let's say a cheap Logitech wheel. So not necessarily faster when looking at lap times, but it will make you a more consistent driver. Just my opinion :)
Hey, can you share your settings for ACC both in Pit House and in game? I just got my R5 yesterday and been struggling with the settings, I came from a Thrustmaster TX and there are things I liked better on my TX, so every help on the settings are appreciated 😊
Pithouse I use the GT Preset, ACC-Official: 900 steering angle, 100% force feedback. ACC I use 75% gain, 0 minimum force, 25% damper, 100% Dynamic Damping, 50% Road Effects, 400hz frequency, steer lock 900, steer linear 1, brake gamma 1 Hope that helps!! Working great for me. One thing is you probably need to set the settings then leave it for a while to adapt to it rather than keep tweaking settings all the time!
Start small the amount of people who offload their entire rigs and setups on market place because they go sicko mode and find out they get motion sickness or don't have time 2 months after they build 1 is pretty common
Totally agree, even this is a pretty crazy financial investment if you are not already pretty deep into the hobby, but some people will spend that much on trainers, others cant barely afford rent! Dont spend more than you can afford just to get something that reviewers say is a little bit better!
Hello!!! In Windows 11, do you foresee any updates for the Steam platform compatibility with games like forza horizon 4, the crew 2, bus simulations etc? Thanks...
Sorry but I dont know about this, Moza has settings that are configured for each game, but I think you can also do it manually so I would think that the steering wheel would work, but you would need to potentially map the buttons and things yourself? Hopefully someone else will have experience with an unsupported game...
I own a moza r5 set. I bought it 2 weeks ago. I have a srp pedal. I play an ACC racing game . After playing for an hour, the base gets very hot. Base settings pit house ACC settings. Does your r5 base also get hot? As a result of this heating, the base may malfunction in the future. do all passively cooled DD bases get hot like this?
It gets a little warm for sure, I wouldnt be too worried about it as the design is supposed to disapate heat through the body as it is fanless. Maybe contact moza support if you are worried and they might be able to do some checks?
at the sim center I go to the r9s get used up to 9 hours a day 6 days a week. They have been going strong for a couple years now. The wheels get screwed up at times though, malfunctioning buttons or needs to be reset. Some of the pedals need shims as there not working as well. But this is from constant use. So just using your r5 a few hours a day is probably completely fine.
I don't want my hips to get hot. That's why I installed fans on the right and left. I want to use it comfortably for years. I believe that heat can damage the device over time.@@99MrJ99
How long have you had it? Are you in the UK? It was within the 30 day return period so I was just keen to get it sorted as I was using it on a desk at the time and repeatedly plugging it in. I guess they just had a bad batch of USB cables that were slightly mismatched with the plug? I considered just selotaping it in if they didnt want to replace it :)
@@MichaelSmithRaces I’ve had mine for couple months now. I use on a motion rig. It hasn’t yet been a problem. But I only just noticed how loose it was last session. Can’t believe it hasn’t given connection issues
In ACC it will defo clip over 80 but thats no problem, but i find 75% is perfect for road feel. Probably just what I have got used to, but when i put it at 100% it feels a little too heavy.
I was looking at the R5 bundle with the clutch pedal and shifter because I want the new Truck wheel for ATS. I play some driving games on xbox here and there but can wait for support if it happens, until then I can continue using my controller.
@TechT1999 yeah that wheel looks great! Depending on how important XBOX support is for you, you can also use the moza truck wheel with other wheelbases, research the universal hub, which you can buy seperately!
Problem with 5Nm is that it's clipping at forces nowhere near at what a real car would output. A GT3 car with power steering for example will require between 8-12Nm holding force while driving on track (and I'm not talking about hitting curbs or something). So you have to dilute the simulation aspect and experience a lot to prevent that from happening. The sweet spot for most people would be about 12Nm. Do you need more than 5Nm? It depends on your priorities. You need more if you want more,...and if you're into sim racing you eventually will end up wanting more. Not just because it feels good, but also because it helps you on track. I would save up a bit longer, maybe skip on the next new phone, the daily starbucks coffee, the ten beers in the pub or the newest xbox game every other month, and buy something more capable with a load cell brake pedal. You will end up saving money in the long run. I myself was in the same situation, down in a rabbithole and looking at equipment, I couldn't afford at the time. I already knew that sim racing is my thing and I asked myself, am I going to be satisfied with something like the R5. The clear answer was no. So I ended up waiting a bit longer, budgeting where it made sense and getting what I really wanted. I regret nothing but I totally understand that It is not easily affordable to everyone, especially for the younger sim racers.
@mementomori4972 I think what you say about wasting money is the key point, it can go both ways, you can spend a ton of money and find out its not for you, or you can spend less, realise you should have gone all in earlier. For me the R5 was really above what I wanted to spend at the time, just to see if I liked it, and I think a lot of people will be in that position. But now I would rather have more power for sure... I'm still glad I got R5 because it felt a lot better than the logitech I tried and I have had a ton of fun with it. As I said in the video you can always spend more, its just about finding where you will feel happy with your purchase so thanks for sharing for others who are considering. I dont think there is a right or wrong way to go really. PS: the market has moved on a whole lot since this video also, there are lots more competition in the mid field space that was very sparse at the time I got my R5... I should probably do an update video TBH.
@@MichaelSmithRaces If you really don't know if it's for you, you can pick up a used G29 for $150 all day long. I know its a toy, but it's enough to introduce you to sim racing. You can sell it for $100 if you're impatient, and you've lost $50, but gained some valuable knowledge. If you buy an R5 Bundle for $550 (or whatever it is right now), just to upgrade a year later, you will have a hard time selling it for $500, or selling it at all, without a significant loss. The market will have moved on, got more competitive and people now may be more interested in something they can get new for the same price. You had your base for not even a year and you already would like to have more power. If someone is truly in the market for a direct drive wheelbase, it's almost save to say that the seed is already planted. On the other hand, a G29 is so bad that it might actually trough you off. So yeah,..I don't know. You should get at least a good load cell brake pedal. That's more important than anything else. Cheers mate. Most important thing is to have fun on track anyways.
I have the 923 wheel and pedals and im really searching right now for a upgrade for myself. I've had them for so many years now that im surprised i didn't bin it 2 months in... Now though im actively researching and looking for a much better one. I wanted Fantec but with the issues they have right now I think really the best place would be moza. I'm just wondering what the difference is between the R5 and the R9 since that's the 2 im thinking of going for. Thank you for this videro. Really helped me with my research :)
@Gh0stPred if you have been using the logitech for a long time and you are sure you want to stick with the hobby I would skip the R5/9 and get a rig and go for something like an R12 / Alpha mini or higher. R5 and R9 are basically the same but the number is the power output so 5 vs 9 newton meters of force. They are entry level direct drive units, a huge upgrade of a gear driven logitech for sure...
Its now on sale for 400€ and I'm considering this as my first wheel. Would this be a good choice. I do not have a mount for the pedals though so would I be able to keep them on the floor?
@-VOAV- at that price I think its a very good deal! I think you will struggle to get a better setup for that price. Using the srp lite pedals on the floor will be fine to get started. Just wont be able to use the upgrade performance mod.
Do you play ACC or AC at all? On both of those you can see the force feedback meter next to the pedal information, as I showed in the video. The trick is to set your wheelbase software to 100%, then set your game as high as you think, maybe try 80%, then drive around looking mostly at the FF graph and see if it goes red. If it does, its clipping and consider if you want to reduce the feedback gain, or live with it.
Hello can you please tell me if its possible to be competitive with a 270º wheel? Im asking because i play hours and hours on same track and can never be quick as the others? I know you dont need expensive hardware to be fast but is possible to be quick with a 270º wheel?
@gavinmirosun5568 I dont think that would help you, generally the throttle is on or off, more resistance for finer detail I dont think would help you. I have no problem with the throttle on the SRP Lites.
@@MichaelSmithRaces dont mean the quick release...just want to know if you let the power adapter connected, or did you cut it after every use..maybe its clearer now :-D
I’m finding myself mistrustful of peak torque figures when constant torque seems to be more useful. I think the new Thrustmaster is doing so as well, claiming constant torque of 10nm.
Yeah I dont know if it could sustain the torque but I have very rarely felt it hit anywhere close to peak as you can see by the part driving with the FF meter. I guess it could be a problem if you whacked it up to 100% and were constantly clipping, that would not feel nice anyway. I think as its quite low power it does not get very hot, so seems OK.

I've had my R5 for 5 months and it's amazing value! The updates are quite frequent and I appeciate that! My FF strngth is set at only 45-48% in AC and ATMS2! It's plenty strong and I'm an adult! I'm saving up money for the new KS GT wheel but it will be X-mas present to myself.
i hope you do a review on the ra1otion because i have an r9 and a ps5 and i really wanna play GT7 but im quite spectral of this adapter. also it seems that you can only plug in the wheel base and the pedals, that means you cants use the h pattern shifter or a handbrake or a buttonbox which sucks
@mqt5704, check out this review from Borey Engineering! Really good real user overview (not worth using IMO) I also want to play gt7... I own it but CBA to play it with controller! ruclips.net/video/6mhsdDnyoVc/видео.html
I've been using the Thrustmaster T150 for over 4 years. The price of other dd wheels is over 1300 dollars, so this time the MOZA R5 bundle is available for 700 to 800 dollars. Is it okay to buy it? (sorry for my eng...isn't my first language.)
Good review from a beginner’s PoV. 👍 If you ever get to reviewing an R9 eventually, I’d be curious to see what you’d make of the difference. Loadcell pedals ditto.
I've got the R9 and SRP pedals. They impress me every time I drive. I've not had them long and have already clocked up 180hrs in the SIM 😮 I would definitely recommend the R9
@2869may didnt bother for a long time, but now I use a button on the sequential shifter for e brake, works great! I would like to do more rally but rarely get time for it!
Hi everyone,i am thinking to buy a direct drive wheel system. 1.Moza r5 bundle with sr-p lite break kit and f1 wheel mod. 2.Fanatec CSL DD (5nm) with mclaren gt3 v2 ,quick release adapter. What do you prefer? I heard that the r5 has some heating issues and in f1 game when you are cornering it loses some force feedback details. I am so much confused what to buy actually Drop your suggestions Thank you!
Yes that is €100 question! You can always spend 100 more for something a little bit better / different! At the time Fanatec had dropped the ball the 5NM was continually out of stock, as were many of their products. It seems thier supply is improving now... I had planned to use PC rather than PS5 so I was not too bothered and I liked the way Moza have started off! I feel like Moza is more disruptive ATM, which I like to see.
@@MichaelSmithRaces it was supposed to be a joke but I'm actually thinking of upgrading to this to play ac. I don't think there'll be a difference for ets2 though 😂
@@MichaelSmithRaces thanks for that mate using a controller on racing at the minute and had a wheel before but looking for a full setup. Told the missus I’m getting a rig too and I don’t wanna hear any moaning from her when one turns up hahaha
@SoMiSongbird upgrading to a DD is definitely a great option! If you already have the logitech though I would potentially look at something a little more powerful when you do make the switch!
i was really thinking about getting this but then i remembered i have a tough time sticking with games for long periods of time so i went with the 920 for now and if i stick with it foor a year or so then ill upgrade to like an r9 or somethingt that will be my long tern upgrade
@@MichaelSmithRaces loving it so far and still playing almost every day. Havent gotten into online stuff and have just been messing around with career modes on AC and ACC so far.
Man, i wish I could make choices lol. I own a TS-PC Racer (Belt driven 6.2nm) which is at the end of its live. Im not a hardcore simracer, just a deskracer like you haha, so I'm looking into upgrading to a Direct drive. Debating between a fanatec CSL DD and the Moza R5 or R9. Moza R5 and CSL DD are bundle choices which are cheaper. R9 in combination with the KS wheel is just amazing, but 200euro more. Man I wish i knew what to get lol, i feel like the 5nm is not enough, thats why the CSL DD is amazing, just change powersupply and you're on 8nm.
@Nickinatorz for a desk setup the R9 is probably as high as you can go in terms of torque. I am personally not a fan of fanatec so im bias but the R9 + KS is a really great combo as the KS is miles better than the ES. I have a review of the KS vs ES that might help with your decision!

I was going to to ask “what makes this a REAL user review in comparison to other channels”…. I understand now. Very well done.
@robertt9342 thanks so much! I I just share my experiences, glad it was helpful for you!
@@MichaelSmithRaces 🙂👍🍀
I was thinking bout getting the R9 but I'm not sure if it's possible to mount it to a table or if it's already too powerful.
It's a known issue.
really appreciated the explanation of clipping with the visual graph, that was so helpful. thanks
@SinisterSpatula Glad it was helpful! Although check my other overheating video everyone thinks I'm in an anti moza conspiracy now because my wheelbase was clipping : ) I stand by my comments from this video that its fine to clip when its detail you dont need!
you get clipping when you dont do your settings properly, not when you have low nM
I think they fixed that with the FFB 3.0 update
Appriciate your insight on the never ending cycle of "I could spend a bit more" I did the exact same thing and the total cost was coming out at nearly £1000! I bit the bullet and order the R5 bundle after seeing this reivew and a couple others, thanks very much :)
Thats exactly why I made the video, Its a brilliant bundle you will love it!
Same sir. I was looking to do the r9 or 12, 900/1100 bucks... And I would need a sim rig to bolt it down too and thats another 4-600 dollars.
I just got mine Sunday so I haven't even had it a full week yet but I have to tell you I'm absolutely in love with it and with the arm workout that I get with just the 5.5 I can't imagine why I would want more than that.
Yep for sure, especially if you hit the big kerbs and walls like me :D

I love it. It's so versatile if you actually use your desk for other things (like most people that dont want to spend over £1000 on simracing gear). The table clamp is excellent and the quick release is so solid. I sold my CSL DD for this and not disappointed at all.
Absolutely!!
Did you have the 5nm or the 8nm version of the CSL DD? How do you compare them in terms of details, quality and ffb?
I would at least suggest getting the moza spring kit for the brake pedal.
yeah this time last year I was researching.... Glad you have enjoyed it!

When i was halfways through the video I decided to subscribe and expected ur channel to have many thousand subscribers. Great content
Thank you so much 😀, thats really nice to hear!
Wow! I just clicked on the video straight away without looking at any views, subs and all of that stuff. I bought the r5 but want to know a bit more. I have to say: you revived it like you have hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
Wow great video!
Really appreciate the comment! Thanks so much!
Personally I would not buy the gear driven Logitech wheels with retail prices at this point.
yep good advice! Get started with what you can get your hands on!

It wont break your arms if you eatch your hands always ehen crash remove your hands on time and wait for wheel sto spining and no problem 😏

Half the reason I just went with the R5 bundle is that I couldn't easily find the T300-RS bundle in the last week but it sounds like I won't have many regrets (besides console compatibility)
They joy of connecting the quick release will make it well worth it!
This is probably the only HONEST review about Moza products on the Internet.
Great to hear!
Are you loving the R9 so far?
Really liking it a lot. Has great fidelity and a lot of adjustments to fine tune. Also feel more connected to the car. I haven't been able to drive all that much faster with this setup but I am a lot more consistent with it. Time will tell how this holds up... I hope to get many years out of it like my G27.
This video is excellent! Thanks for your great work
Thanks so much, everyone clearly LOVES Moza!
@sbs88 yeah moving to a proper cockpit makes a HUGE difference!

Great video. I've decided to get this over the Fanatec kit. Don't remember what one, but it was like $700
Hope you enjoy it!
A worthy upgrade for sure!

Oh, and I already want the loadcell pedals, H shifter, and handbrake add-ons too.
haha yes its a good hobby if you like to keep tinkering with it and adding new stuff! Sorry I cant be much help with the pedal settings as I am away at the moment so I don't have access.
What is the hub supposed to be for then? I thought same as you that you connect all your moza stuff to it?
Older graphics engine but my computer is like 9 years old anyway 🤣
cheers
@@MichaelSmithRaces exactly... I definitely don't have the space so I'm sticking to this for quite a while
Hi I noticed that the supported game list (5:20) didn't have WRC Generations and Automobilista 2 on there, would this still work with unsupported games?

Any wheel will work just fine it’s pedals that’s going to make you a faster driver
I think I will end up with some non Moza pedals in the future if I find the SRP lite are the limiting factor when I want to go to a load cell....
ACC I use 75% gain, 0 minimum force, 25% damper, 100% Dynamic Damping, 50% Road Effects, 400hz frequency, steer lock 900, steer linear 1, brake gamma 1
Hope that helps!! Working great for me. One thing is you probably need to set the settings then leave it for a while to adapt to it rather than keep tweaking settings all the time!
nice to know thanks ive been using a g920 for a year and im thinking about getting this
Wow an honest dude, don’t see that anymore.
Cheers @Michael_Jackson187!
I play an ACC racing game
@@MichaelSmithRaces How many hours do you race non-stop?Thank you for your answer.
at the sim center I go to the r9s get used up to 9 hours a day 6 days a week.
I have a loose usb mount too! I tried another cable and it helped
Mate I love your humour
Hey Michael, whats with the clipping at higher ffb´s? (80% and higher)
In ACC it will defo clip over 80 but thats no problem, but i find 75% is perfect for road feel. Probably just what I have got used to, but when i put it at 100% it feels a little too heavy.
@@MichaelSmithRaces thank you
Рассматриваю этот руль к покупке, и если все таки куплю, это будет мой первый руль ))
Спасибо за обзор ! ))
Its good fun!
Ну как? Купил?

I was looking at the R5 bundle with the clutch pedal and shifter because I want the new Truck wheel for ATS. I play some driving games on xbox here and there but can wait for support if it happens, until then I can continue using my controller.
@TechT1999 yeah that wheel looks great! Depending on how important XBOX support is for you, you can also use the moza truck wheel with other wheelbases, research the universal hub, which you can buy seperately!
@@MichaelSmithRaces I will certainly do that. I play mostly RD2, Day Z, GTA5 on Xbox with the occasional Forza games. I am more of a PC gamer.
I'm running a 6nm wheel and sometimes I wonder if I'm getting any clipping. What settings help reduce clipping, in general?
@ricardopires4713 wish I knew, im not fast 😂 should be getting a gt style wheel soon but don’t expect it to make me any slower / faster!
Im thinking of getting this, may i ask if the perfomance kit also fits on the throttle.
@gavinmirosun5568 I dont think that would help you, generally the throttle is on or off, more resistance for finer detail I dont think would help you. I have no problem with the throttle on the SRP Lites.
@@MichaelSmithRaces Ohh i was just thinking it could give more resistance for a better feel.
Great review!
Thanks!
Aye I’m sub number 280!
Hero! Thanks
just got one more question.. do you take the base away from the current? or just let it connected to electricity?
you can use the quick release while its still powered on, but i tend to avoid it just incase :)
I started racing 7 years ago on a wheel and only now cause it broke at I looking for an upgrade. T300 rs served me well
@Blizzard0812 if you already had T300, I would go for something more powerful probably....
I've got the the moza r5,also from GT omega, quick delivery I'll be honest I knew where the wheel was on its way, also bought the F1 rim mod,and brake mod,GT omega don't sell those but I'm sure they will in the future all in all going from a g29 I'm a happy chap
Awesome!
@@MichaelSmithRaces another update bought the KS wheel and the bigger wheel mod for the es from GT omega, and just got the SIM jack pro pedals from another site 😁
can you use these on the more arcadey games like need for speed? or is this only compatible with the sim racing games?
yep should work, Moza list all the compatible games on their website, but once you get into it you might end up going full sim anyway I think
@@MichaelSmithRaces thank you! Yes none of the need for speed games are on their website, however from what I’ve read the wheel and pedals should work just not to their full effect like the supported games. Looking forward to ACC in VR as well! Cheers!
great review michael , how did you get affiliated with gt omega as id like to be too as i use gt omega rig and seat , ty
I bought my moza bundle from them and then had very good service with the usb fault so they were my first choice for buying a rig. Then they came out with prime lite which is exactly what I needed. I started making the videos and people seem to have really liked them! Just start making videos!
Great vid!
Cheers @94nolo
I just got the g923, have set it up, tried it out. Seems ok? But after watching this im about to go return it and get this.
If you dont need console support, I think you will make the right choice to return it and get moza instead, assuming you can afford it! g923 feels like a toy to me when I have tried it but r5 is very immersive.
r5 bundle with srp pedals will be great
I've had my R5 for 5 months and it's amazing value! The updates are quite frequent and I appeciate that! My FF strngth is set at only 45-48% in AC and ATMS2! It's plenty strong and I'm an adult! I'm saving up money for the new KS GT wheel but it will be X-mas present to myself.
Have you tried the ES Wheel mod? Might get that before I get a new wheel...
i hope you do a review on the ra1otion because i have an r9 and a ps5 and i really wanna play GT7 but im quite spectral of this adapter. also it seems that you can only plug in the wheel base and the pedals, that means you cants use the h pattern shifter or a handbrake or a buttonbox which sucks
@mqt5704, check out this review from Borey Engineering! Really good real user overview (not worth using IMO) I also want to play gt7... I own it but CBA to play it with controller! ruclips.net/video/6mhsdDnyoVc/видео.html
And now the Truck wheel is out ! 🎉🎉🎉❤
@TrueBlade-1889 an awesome bit of kit for sure! I cant justify buying it as I dont play truck sim enough...
I just got the fanatec 5 nm race ready bundle since its $100 cheaper
That is an amazing deal for sure! Hope you enjoy it! How is it so far?
@@MichaelSmithRaces waiting for it to be delivered
I've been using the Thrustmaster T150 for over 4 years. The price of other dd wheels is over 1300 dollars, so this time the MOZA R5 bundle is available for 700 to 800 dollars. Is it okay to buy it? (sorry for my eng...isn't my first language.)
I think you will love it! Yes it is OK to buy it :)
Good review from a beginner’s PoV. 👍
If you ever get to reviewing an R9 eventually, I’d be curious to see what you’d make of the difference.
Loadcell pedals ditto.
I've got the R9 and SRP pedals. They impress me every time I drive. I've not had them long and have already clocked up 180hrs in the SIM 😮
I would definitely recommend the R9
Do you use a button for the E-brake....?
@2869may didnt bother for a long time, but now I use a button on the sequential shifter for e brake, works great! I would like to do more rally but rarely get time for it!
Hi everyone,i am thinking to buy a direct drive wheel system.
1.Moza r5 bundle with sr-p lite break kit and f1 wheel mod.
2.Fanatec CSL DD (5nm) with mclaren gt3 v2 ,quick release adapter.
What do you prefer?
I heard that the r5 has some heating issues and in f1 game when you are cornering it loses some force feedback details.
I am so much confused what to buy actually
Drop your suggestions
Thank you!
Both great choices, just depends which eco system you like to be a part of I think... look at other wheels & upgrades for the future.
unlucky me moza won't send their product to Turkey. I realy want to buy one. Other distributors ask for double of the original price :(
Thats rubbish! Hopefully you can find something decent!
Hei
Nice video. Straight to the point.
But I have one question why moza not fanateck? Its 100eur more and you have compatibility to PS
@@MichaelSmithRaces The quick release is so much better and why I went with Moza and I could pick it up locally at a Micro Center.
Hey can you put other wheel mods on the r5 wheel base like maybe the f1 moza wheel or can you not
@Mikey27R you can use any wheel you want, especially if you are willing to connect the wheel via USB, or not have buttons on the wheel!
gonna buy this to race in euro truck 🔥
Nice, I want to play truck simulator more.... so relaxing!
@@MichaelSmithRaces it was supposed to be a joke but I'm actually thinking of upgrading to this to play ac. I don't think there'll be a difference for ets2 though 😂

I wish I could get one of these... the logitech is not HORRIBLE... it's fun but this would be some next level stuff
@SoMiSongbird upgrading to a DD is definitely a great option! If you already have the logitech though I would potentially look at something a little more powerful when you do make the switch!
I play Forza 5 and assetto Corsa with it and I bought kartkraft last night which works awesome with it
Nice, I've added it to my wishlist!
no problems with overheating?
Nothing I have noticed, but I dont do the longest sessions...
i was really thinking about getting this but then i remembered i have a tough time sticking with games for long periods of time so i went with the 920 for now and if i stick with it foor a year or so then ill upgrade to like an r9 or somethingt that will be my long tern upgrade
Sounds like a good plan! Its a bit commitment, how are you getting on with the 920 so far?
FYI: R3 just release for console.
Glad to see it, hopefully be more console compatibility coming!
