I have been watching your videos since the past 1.5 years, I will be finally moving to Ottawa this August to pursue my masters from UOttawa. I recent got my passport back with the visa on it and am so excited to move! I have gotten so much of insight on Canada, by watching all of your videos. You also inspired me to start learning French! Not gonna lie, I was slightly bummed when I heard you were moving out of Canada lol. Anyway just wanted to say that I love watching your videos and your sassy sense of humour lol
Debolina, thank you so much for your incredibly kind message! It brings me so much joy to hear that you've been with me for the past 1.5 years and that my videos have been helpful to you. Congratulations on securing your visa and the opportunity to pursue your master's degree at UOttawa! I'm also thrilled to hear that I inspired you to start learning French. Merci beaucoup et bonne chance 💘
I will be in Canada soon and I have learned a lot from your videos. Since the end of covid some people are making new videos about the cons of living there, but this video has encouraged me! Thanks Julia!
Hi Miss Yulia. Merci beacoup for the very good insights you've shared with me and your esteemed audience or subscribers. It's so good to know you're back to Canada. New knowledge has been added to my current knowledge and I really appreciate the fact that it is a personal experience for you. I also appreciate your inclination towards learning languages as well. Can't wait to meet you in person one day.😊
Having moved from Europe to Montreal I have the opposite experience 😅 Everything is super far away, in Europe a 2-3h car trip to the next country felt like a long time, now that’s the distance to the next city which makes it harder to do weekend trips and explore new cities/countries, you start with only 10 vacation days (????), the health care system is less accessible and not as good, everything is more expensive, apartment leases are almost always 1 year long instead of unlimited, apartment postings and search feels like it only begins like 2 months before the anticipated moving date, all the apartments I visited were old and needed renovations except if you go up to a very high budget.. so yeah, I guess it really is in the eye of the beholder
I've moved to work in Saskatchewan, left my family and wife home and when i arrived its been very tuff, everything is strange and different but the people are very nice 🙏
i would say the tourist aspect is due to in when you lived in lisbane you were in a way a tourist so you noticed others like yourself. another point is that in canada tourist would be more likely to be driving from place to place instead of walking thus noticing them sticking out more
Wow, amazing video! I'm a Canadian (living in Vancouver... come visit!) and I loved all your thoughts. I also love Montreal and Toronto, but I couldn't handle the harsh winters. That's why you need to try out Vancouver. We don't snow here!

Hey, thank you for the vids, been almost a year since we moved to MTL and whilst we agree with most of your observations; smoking has been quite present where we live and in the area around. It's a huge source of discomfort and complaining about it to our landlord results in them denying the existence of the clear prohibition of it in the lease. Hope that is not the case for every other people.
Hey Yulia! I love how you're so eager to learn new languages!! I speak English & French but find it really hard to accept the idea to learn German or Spanish or anything! Please do another video update comparing canada and Portugal now that you're 2 years in Portugal

that is not true at all. I know people who have spent 15 years in Quebec not speaking any French. if you work with people, you will need it. otherwise, you’ll be fine with English only
Canadiens don't smoke cigarettes in public, because they smoke weed in public. Come on. Festivals in Montreal are available only few months per year. Other 8 months you have stormy snowy coldness. Come one. If you have tiny balcony, then you can find another apartment with bigger balcony. It is not the question of the city, it is the question of how much money you can have for rent. Come on. You don't feel much tourists in Montreal, because basically almost all people in Montreal are tourists: some of them moved few years ago, some of them few days ago. Come on. Low quality of food. Low quality of services. You pay here, you pay there, but you get minimum for that. It is not only about Montreal, but about North America. EU > NA Lisbon >> Montreal Portugal >>> Canada
Thanks for your comment! 1. I agree about weed. For me personally, the tobacco smell is nastier. 2. Festivals take place all year round in Montreal. We even have a winter music festival called Igloofest 3. You can find a place with a bigger balcony in Lisbon but you'll pay a lot for that. It doesn't make sense to me to pay for somebody’s mortgage, considering prices in Lisbon 4. People who moved are not tourists, they're immigrants and expats 5. Services depend on the contractors you hire. I've received shitty services in Lisbon (and yes, I spoke Portuguese to them) 6. You can find high-quality food if you go to local markets (same as everywhere) I’m glad that you prefer Lisbon :)

@@ThisisYulia balanced? do you know how many years average Canadian has to work for first down payment? I believe Canada will be forever in your mind as it was before Covid-19, before 2020. But there is new reality for Canada. This country is too behind now and there're no any processes to develop itself. The situation becomes worse and worse. Go and investigate what is happening right now. Look, it is not even about Portugal. It is how you speak about Canada welcoming new immigrants to become new slaves here. Only because of new immigrants, the economy works anyhow. People take all their money, that they earn in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and come to Canada. Spend everything for first one year and then realize Canada's reality: landlords buy new houses due to deceived immigrants. It's just good marketing of Canada. And you're part of this marketing unfortunately.
I'm sorry that Canada sucks for you, it doesn't suck for others (especially for immigrants). People come from much worse places, stay here, and live their lives. Canada is not perfect but there are definitely shitter places in the world. Most of my immigrant friends are happy here and not planning to leave any time soon. As they say, to each their own 😉

Quebec has highest smoking rate in Canada ~12%. Elsewhere like 5-7% of people smoke. It’s quite rare especially compared to Europe
