Does the Dot have a hub built in? or is that na extra?
Since the Echo dot comes with a USB connector, does that mean you can connect it to your computer for the power source and when you ask it a question, it can search the web for the answer? Would be great if it can do that.
I live in the middle east . So does echo dot works with 220-240 volts or only 110v-120v volts ? I've never got clear answer yet . Can you help me ?
My echo dot 2nd gen is able to play music through bluetooth. Is it new for the 2nd generation to have a speaker for music?

I have a Sonos Play 5. Do know if the Dot will lync with it via Bluetooth and play music or would I need to use Amazon's music service? Thanks for the video.
+bschak you can plug the dot into the Play 5 using the aux port, but Sonos does not do Bluetooth

If you buy numerous Amazon Dots, will they work together like a home wireless phone? Also, I'm getting this for a parent that needs assistance so they can contact me if they can't get to a phone. I hope this will work for this purpose.
I was hoping for an all in one solution that could also play movies like Amazon Fire TV and do everything the dot does.
I just ordered the amazon echo and echo dot along with some fun smart home gadgets (lights, thermostat, switches, etc.) so I'm excited for them to all come! Great review!

Question. I want two of these but I want them independent of each other. I want one for my daughter for use in her room and I want one in my kitchen to use for lists timers ect. Can they be used independently?
+DOC Ohm yes...I have 3 dots in my house now and 2 echo’s. Set them up in the room and they are independent. If for some reason both are picking you up, you can change the wake word on one of them to “Echo” or “Amazon” so it will only respond with that word instead of “Alexa”.
Does the echo get dlc updates or do do you have to buy a new one

I LOVE mine. It sits quietly awaiting questions. Always on and ready. You can get weather, sports scores, how to spell, it has mood music, can play radio stations, ect. No I don't have a smart home so it's not linked to security or powered windows and doors and such. But I paid $40 for this baby and she's well worth it. I can ask it how much the world weighs and it will give me a detailed answer. Plus there's games and such to keep you occupied if you're bored. The reminder feature is awesome like an alarm with words and it takes up as much space as a deck of cards. Oh yeah, the microphone is so sensitive that I have my unit downstairs and it can hear me upstairs. That is awesome. The only drawback is the time it takes to initially set up. You need to sync it through a pc and a local wifi. Something I had initial trouble with. Once connected, it's all a breeze.
Got 1 for Christmas, bought another 1 very next day. I'm rockin to the dot now.

How do I get my speakers connected to the echo, at the same time as my laptop, is there a splitter I could use?

+Delray Rhoan so far, ecobee3 thermostat, Phillips Hue bulb, Ooma Telo and now my eero WiFi system. I have used it with a third party Sonos controller too, but full support from Sonos is coming soon!

I just bought one of these. I’m confused on how it does all these things... do I need to buy special items for it to connect to? I dont know, will it work with my tech?
+Christina B depends on what you want it to do or control. Thermostats and lighting require other devices, but for it to tell you your calendar, check the weather and help you cook, you do not need to add anything else.

i just bought 4 dots one for th main area of the house 1 for bedroom and one each for my kids rooms. i rhink they will be good home work helppers for them she seems it seems to be great for spelling math and geography should be a great helper for them.

Wish you would make an instructional video on programming in Phillips hue lights into the Echo Dot, especially for us electronically challenged. I have the dot working in all ways but the lights. Finally got it to respond to "turn off bedroom lights" and it will reply, "OK" and nothing happens. I have the bridge plus 2 hue bulbs set up. Need a walk through.

Ordered mine yesterday on Amazon site and it said it wouldn't be shipped out until 2 days after Christmas due to being out of stock but that was cool since they are on special for 39.99. Great review! I was thinking to buy this as a gift for my tech savvy nana and papa. Well my papa love gadgets. lol I hope they be able to use it though because I was wondering what use it would really serve. If I got it for myself I probably wouldn't use it as much. Also, I think Alexa didn't respond because your question was delayed a bit after waking her up. The same happens with Siri sometimes.

Very informative video regarding the Echo Dot. I've go a question - We've got an Echo and for XMAS we received 2 Echo Dots. At times all of them respond to a request because they are all called Alexa! What can I do about this??!
+Jan Svoboda I just make sure they are located far enough apart where they won't pickup one another. You could also change the wake word for each device, you can choose between "Alexa", "Amazon", and "Echo" in the settings for each device

What is the difference between the Echo and Dot?
+Mr Automatic slight difference in microphones, huge difference in the speaker built in. The Echo is basically a 2-in-1...it is also a Bluetooth speaker with Alexa built in, good quality audio. The Echo Dot can still function the same, but the speaker is not the best.

FYI the Echo Dot can be powered off of the AirPort Extreme USB port. That's one less power plug to worry about.

Just wanted to let you know, just because the echo dot has a usb adapter doesn't necessarily mean it is using less power than the Amazon echo. You have to look at the power ratings of the device to be sure
