On this occasion, the members of the group provide us with invaluable information about the song and its lyrics.
The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination.
The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money.
In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages.
The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages real.
    This is the original letter:
    [María]
Athilr Rikithir Ai Eril idi Uha Ijalh
    Fahd Tiade Elifi An It
Athilr Rikithir Ai Landawariar Año Ana

The language is proto-norse. The language that the people living in scandinavia during the migration periode spoke in.Pre-viking era.
I am glad that you give this extremely exceptional Nordic group a chance. I tell you a little about its history. The group, which are two boys and one girl, have Norwegian, Danish and German nationality and uses instruments such as horns of different animals, drums, human bones, rattles with human ashes, bells, stones, all to go back to the first musical compositions that They were able to interpret 1,000 years ago, in the iron age in northern Europe. All the letters are taken from carved gadgets from the era of the Nordic iron, such as arrowheads, bows, swords, rune stones and recite poems and psalms of war, peace and protection. Whereupon and for this, heilung, which means healing in German, is in close collaboration with archaeologists specializing in the field. The languages used by heilung are several. Among them are Latin, Old Danish, German and English. They were so successful with their first album that they had to release a new live album, which includes 2 new songs. Some time later they released their second album, futha, which is a much more feminine work. His first album, Ofnir, is much more aggressive and masculine. During the concerts some representations of how these ancient rituals of the iron age could be made. Also just finished the soundtrack of the video game Hellblade 2. I hope this review helps you to understand a bit the context of this musical group. In July 2022, they will release their third album. A preview of this is her magnificent presentation video "Anoana"
Some curiosities. When they built the drums for the group, one of which is made from horse skin, a doctor drew blood from the three members of the group and painted the drums and some of their clothes with it. The male singer with the deep voice is a great tattoo artist and very professional. The bones the girl plays with are human bones and sometimes they have had problems in the countries of the tour to introduce them through the border from the country where the concert was held
    A hug

I saw Heilung live at Tuska festival here in Helsinki little over a week ago, and I was not prepared! It was captivating and magical, not really a concert, but performance art with beautiful soundscapes. And the meanest and loudest bass drums of the entire 3 day metal festival - that's saying something, I think 😆

    Heilung means healing
Anoana mean spirit or guardian of the land.
The language was proto norse very similar to gaelic, if your ears pick up on familiar bits.
They speak for our mother and you hear mother earth calling out in their music, you feel her in your heart. You may cry because you have missed that feeling for a long time deep in your spirit and in your blood.
Thx great reaction check our Norupo from Heilung

In scandinavian mythology, we have the Æsir which is the plural form of “âss”. This is a Norse word that derived from an earlier proto-Nordic word “*ansuR” which is derived from an older proto-Nordic word “*ansuz”. This can be traced back to the root words *and-/ans- which translate as “spirit.” Also seen in Norse as önd.
Hope this helps in the translation and explaining the root words of old Norse language. There are many levels of Norse language and Heilung appears to be taking from an older proto-Indo-European scheme. ~200AD Roman Empire age

When I saw them live in Atlanta, I was blown away. I kept waiting for an intermission. They just kept going. It was beautiful and intense, and the drums were driving so hard I felt like they rearranged my soul. If you ever get the chance, go see them live, do it. An absolute experience. Absolute magic.

the language is a mix of ancient Germanic languages that mainly includes the old Scandinavian and partly old German languages, since the Germans and Scandinavians are closely related 🙂 they have/had a very similar culture and the same gods with small differences. the 3 Members of Heilung are from Norway, Denmark and Germany 👍 the best trio to create this wonderful music
    Greetings and great reaction! 😉

The high pitched singing in the midpoint of the song is what is called Kulning which is an ancient herding call that was done by Nordic/Scandinavian women calling in the herds of cows and sheep and other livestock from distances to come in.

What a Song!!!! Thank you for this Catheryn 🥰
This gives me Shaman Monk vibes for sure. This was absolutely incredible and has given me another rabbit hole to explore.
As usual Brother, great reaction. You react to music in much the same way as I do. I'm very empathetic when it comes to music, it just does something emotionally to me.
I can tear up to Tatiana Shmayluk's vocals just because she is soooo damn talented, and I feel so grateful that she shares her talent with us despite her struggles with being an introvert and the pain and strife she deals with on a daily basis due to Ukraines constant state of war since 2014.
I got the same type of feeling from this song and am looking forward to more reactions of this band.

This is my new favorite from Heilung. But there is not a song they have performed that has not moved me on a deep spiritual or perhaps primal level. It's hard to explain it, to me it reaches to and captivates the soul. I love how the base is like a heart beat that just calls to you. I wish I had better words to explain it. They draw me in making me wish I was born in a different time and place. They are incredible.

That last scene. To me the story culminates here. I myself no matter how many times I watch this video I get emotional. I feel my heart soar. I feel a swell of pride in my Nordic roots.
My take on this final scene after watching for context and understanding she is the key protector of nature, this final scene tells me in that moment she is embracing her destiny. She has decided nothing will stop her from achieving her goal... even if it means she must charge head down, horns forward like an ox.

This is not my information but provided by the very knowledgeable Nidels a huge fan of Heilung, which I hope helps you understand where the "band" are coming from as it were and give you some insight into what they represent etc

All of the sounds on Heilung recordings come from a combination of voices (Maria, and Kai primarily), instruments (as you said, which they make themselves, and only out of materials that would have been available to ancient, Bronze, and early mediaeval peoples), and natural sounds (i.e. Chris will record the sounds of a stream of water and process it until it sounds like something else). They use no "electric" instruments, and no synthesizers. The group find this to be very important to their process of transporting the listener to another time and place; both of which are ingrained in our DNA; as ALL peoples can trace their ancestry back to nomadic/tribal people from the end of the Younger Dryas (Ice Age). What you felt is a deeply ingrained emotional reaction, and is intentional on the part of Heillung, who call their music "amplified history". They also begin and end each of their "shows" (which they call "rituals") with these words...
Remember, that we all are brothers
All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind
We all descend from the one great being
    That was always there
Before people lived and named it
    Before the first seed sprouted

Other Heilung recommendation would be Norupo, other awesome recommendations in the same genre (and arguably as epic as this video specifically) would be Wardruna; "Kvitravn" and "Lyfjaberg". The last two have English translations in captions on the videos, hits awesome without them, but hits different when you know what they're saying and what the song is about.

Glad to see that you accepted the challenge on this one! I'm not seeing any folk metal so far, which I think would be complementary to much of what you've reacted to but different. Eluveitie, a Swiss band that often sings about Celtic themes could be interesting. They recently did a collab with German folk band Faun to sing about a Welsh prince Gwydion with Eluveitie singing in Welsh. But for something more challenging, their recent release from Nuclear Blast - Aidus? They put out a separate lyric video for the single on their own channel.
