I first heard about Mr Mosquito through Toonami, they used to have small segments showcasing different and often weird games and this was the one that stood out to me the most.
Always appreciate love being spread to obscure games, especially ones from back in the day (I hate that we can use that saying for the ps2 now too). Good looks as always Snickety
Dude back when people could actually make creative things instead of follow dumb formulaic stuff like most games nowadays. Man I love 1990s and early 2000 games
This is exactly why ps2 was my favorite era. So much variety and experiments! Nowadays dev costs are so high games must be streamlined to minimise risks. Now indy is the way to experiment, and if a new genre is proven successfull enough, giants of the industry will clone it, add a few sparkles, and get their share of the pie.
Love these kinds of videos. Glad to see you back Snickety. Some suggestions: Frequency, Poinie's Poin, Chain Dive, Flipnic: Ultimate Pinball and Stretch Panic (lmao) are some I've been interested in but never really checked out.
Dude, I know you’re working on THAT video for the compendium. Thank you this in mean time, but take as long as you need for the next one. You’re a pro at this format, and I don’t mind the wait since all your videos are quality stuff. Good luck brother, you got it in the bag.
I rented Mister Mosquito. That was a entertaining game. "Suggest Odd ones." Okage: Shadow King, Ephemeral Phantasia, Tsugunai: Atonement, Jade Cocoon 2, Robot Alchemic Drive, Steambot Chronicles, Evergrace, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (Not to be confused with the Tactics game.), Under the Skin, Haven: Call of the King, Kya: Dark Lineage, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Whiplash, Dr. Muto, Toe-Jam and Earl 3, Scaler, and Vexx. That should do.
vexx huh? i aint played that game since i last rented it in my old rental store back in the mid to late 2000's its an odd and pretty hard platformer for sure! (the final boss is so damn tough to beat)
I unfortunately don't have knowledge of specifics, but a video on PS3 games that technically also had a PS2 version that no one remembers could be a neat theme for an episode; I find games released right around the time of a console generation shift to be particularly fascinating from a games history perspective, particularly when the devs clearly saw the future approaching but were ultimately shackled by the platform they had to release on.
I absolutely love X-Treme Express. For me it is the true 'hidden gem' of the PS2 library. It's really fun once you understand how to maximise speed without derailing including anticipating when you can go fast and purposefully derail to be put straight back on, or using a tunnel to stop you derailing. Also learning how to knock off other trains makes the game fast and frantic.
what a nice and rather informative video. not sure if it counts as obscure, but my favorite lesser known ps2 game is Atelier Iris and it's sequel. haven't played the third entry for that particular series but it's just so painfully comfy to play the first one again and again, which is helped by still not being able to find all the fun little bits here and there.
One obscure game that back in 2006 or 2007 you could easily find in the 3$ bucket of unsold games at the exit of shops like Mediamarkt (that's where i bought my copy) is Go Go Copter, an RC helicopter simulator where you fly around a house, doing challenges and finding stars similar to SM64, to unlock new zones, and more challenges, really neat and fun game.
Binging your videos and jumping from the deep symbolism of Persona to a game about mosquitoes is as surreal as it gets....i mean talk about whiplash lol Keep up the good work my man! happy 2022
I remember almost allof these from "PSM2" magazine as a kid! "xreme express I wanted to play badly but could never find in GAME. Also "Mr Mosqito" "Demolition girl's" appreal went right over my head lol.
This is a potentially bottomless pit you've fallen into. I have far too many games I could list, but here's three games off the top of my head. Ring of Red, Robot Warlords, and Victorious Boxers 2.
Had a lot of fun with that game at a friend's house back when it first came out. His parents bought it for him and we played it all day and night. Never ended up beating it either.
I dunno if it's actually obscure or if my friends just didn't play it - Trapt on PS2. You're falsely accused of patricide, you hide in an old house, end up with a demon arm, and have to set traps everywhere to fight off people coming for your head
Dude, try out road warrior 2050 (from the simple 2000s series) it's okay in gameplay the music is great and it has a mad Max inspiration to it. I would like you to try it out so there can be more light on the game
I remember playing Mister Mosquito as a kid back in 2002, had so much fun. sadly derp Japanese games like this are not made today. Gundam Encounters in Space PS2 game is one of the best gundam games if you are a fan. so much content but if you are not a fan you might not like the combat and controls . super rare PS2 game is Chulip and Rule of Rose.
Recommendations: Hungry Ghosts- 1st person horror action game. Chain Dive- Strider meets Bionic Commando. Remote Control Dandy SF- sequel to PS1 mecha game with an unconventional control scheme. Ghost Vibrations- 1st person rail shooter(movement between sections is manual and in 3rd person but you can only move forward and never back). The game has 3 post game stages upon loading a clear game save, footage of which I haven't found. They seemingly require 100% ghost capture to unlock.
I remember Mister Mosquito having a few cabinets in that one old arcade at the mall and being confused by it lmao, it sadly closed down years ago, I miss that place
Is well other than the classic yugioh dealest of the rose. There was that Muso tactical game that was Kessen 2. It's really not as known or loved as its regular main series line.
yeah do more of these, also I vaugly remember a 360 game I rented where it was a tactical rpg...but it was world war 2...with like vampires were wolves and other mythical creations, don't even remember if it was any good I suppose Metal Saga would also be a good game to look into, you want weird, hoooooooooooboy like the story is nothing to write home about but the weird stuff like the temple composed of japanese speedo wearing macho men will be memorable, that and dogs with artillery cannons on their back its actually one of two games that came here from the Metal Max series
I didn't have many PS1 games, and even fewer were obscure. Incredible Crisis was pretty memorable and very japanese. Another game I've never seen anyone even mention is Destrega. A friend of mine played the demo, but I had the full game. I remember the voice acting being... a product of its time. Might be funny to play through it, or at least check out a longplay.
... and for PS2 games... only one I can recall being obscure is a diving game that apparently had a lot of entries. Everblue. I never got far or figured out how to progress. I don't even know where I got it from.
I don't know if it's obscure or not but I had this cute little game, Herdy Gerdy, it's a puzzle platformer where you have to herd animals and of course different animals requires different approaches. IIRC it's like not the best game ever but still a very solid one
@@SnicketySlice I do remember it being quite difficult at times but I don't know how much comes from the game and how much comes from being a kid at the time, this makes me want to give it a go now ahah
I was just watching the Soul Hackers teaser this morning, and of all the comments I see flying by, I see you post, "Oh boy, I hope this isn't horribly disappointing." I even read it in my mind in your voice. So are you disappointed?
@@SnicketySlice Same, but to be fair, I wish there were more purchase and play classic games on mobile without the gatcha mechanics. Knights of the Old Republic did it and sold a zillion copies. Same with Baldur's Gate. Bringing some old Atlus games there would probably work well. Good chatting with you. Keep up the good work!
@@SnicketySlice You're comment is pretty weird, it was literally in the announcement that it's available for PC and all consoles. But if you were talking about graphics then yeah it definitely looks like a high quality mobile game.
They should definetly make a remake of that mosquito game or and indie spiritual successor also does the daughter get older or is that her friend with the glasses? Never finnished the game
Speaking of Gundam games, other than Zeonic Front on PS2, one of the notable PS2 games it had were the SEED ones though those are Japanese only pretty sure.
speak of Weird ps2 games I remember one day when I back from school I see my sister play a game about military airplane fighting against a ginat bikini girl like godzilla 😂 anyone knows the name of the game? edit: omgggg you talk about itttttt 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lemme write some PS2 game's I've never seen anyone talk about. 10,000 Bullets Bujingai Dual Hearts Samurai Western Robot Alchemist Drive(R.A.D.) Blood Will Tell - Tezuka Osamu's Dororo MS Saga
Just pointing out that the entire premise of "Mr. Moskeeto" is nonsensical: only female mosquitoes drinks blood a mostly to lay and feed more "eggs". But... just take it as a "cartoonish" take on it.
finally, an obscure ps2 games video that isn't a fking clickbait
I first heard about Mr Mosquito through Toonami, they used to have small segments showcasing different and often weird games and this was the one that stood out to me the most.
Never owning a ps2 but still knowing 3/5 of these "obscure" games is quite odd
Always appreciate love being spread to obscure games, especially ones from back in the day (I hate that we can use that saying for the ps2 now too). Good looks as always Snickety
don't forget about the obscure horror game, obscure lol
Man this video reminds me of how mythical games felt in this era.
Dude back when people could actually make creative things instead of follow dumb formulaic stuff like most games nowadays. Man I love 1990s and early 2000 games
Great video as always.
How I yearn for those days of old, the good days, the Mr Mosquito days.
I feel like most indie games today wouldn't go this weird. Man, I miss the PS2 era
This is exactly why ps2 was my favorite era. So much variety and experiments! Nowadays dev costs are so high games must be streamlined to minimise risks.

That should do.
Scaler was the first game I ever owned on PS2. I must have beaten it at least 10 times. So much nostalgia
vexx huh? i aint played that game since i last rented it in my old rental store back in the mid to late 2000's its an odd and pretty hard platformer for sure! (the final boss is so damn tough to beat)
Steambot Chronicles isn't particularly odd, but it's fantastic and a hidden gem worth playing, for sure
Dr muteo had a crazy difficulty spike as a kid.
Mister Mosquito also appeared as a bot in Astro Bot.

I was always too ashamed to rent Mr. Mosquito as a child. Didn't want the "are ya winnin son" thing to happen.

This is the PEAK of comfy. Comfortability. Useful knowledge to keep my gaming habits fresh- i might add. Resplendant.
Great video, please consider making more. Obscure ps1 & 2 games are a gold mine that needs to be shared.
More Snickety in my feed, gasp! Please continue this series the PS2 has plenty of fodder for this kinda content and it's a really entertaining.
Ah, I've watched Clement's playthrough of Mr.Moskeeto. both a mundane and wacky concept, I really like the vibe of it

I have this one Over the hedge game that's surprisingly solid. It also acts somewhat as a retelling and a sequel.

I'm kind of torn between Mr Moskeeto and Encounters in Space so I'd say both.

I really should.
