Does make me curious about those rounds out there optimized for short barrels. (While I like revolvers, the way the noise and flash goes isn't the best friend of my night vision (and pretty sharp) hearing, so the idea of not having more of it than is doing any good is pretty appealing. I am the proud owner of a Kimber K6s DASA and I love it ….as a 38Special +P 😂 as a .357 Magnum it hurts my hand and it’s very LOUD. Shooting it in a confined space would hurt and probably nail my eardrums. I already wear hearing aids in both ears.
Nevertheless, I fully agree with how well crafted and beautiful it is …I recently changed to the combat grips now offered for this model and it helps with recoil but not much.
Anyway still a great review and at the range I love my Kimber K6s… it’s not bad as a .357 when I wear shooting gloves 😂. I love the trigger and I shoot it well ….when I don’t flinch.

I’ll throw my 640Pro (in a pocket holster) in my front coat pocket, especially if I’m wearing sweatpants or snow pants. It’s not ideal but it works for me. Yankee, I have not been feeling the love from my SP101- which I find ultra chunky, difficult to carry in quality holsters, and just too heavy. I keep going back to my S&W J- the all steel 640 being my favorite. Today, I looked at several guns including a S&W 340 and a Colt Cobra 357 3". About the only thing I liked about the 340 was the night sights. Then I asked, What is That? It was a Colt Cobra 357 3". It was instant love. I didn't buy it, but should have and may still. Slick as can be. A perfect trigger. Fit my hand perfectly. Weight similar to a 640 but 6 shots! What's not to love? The SP101 doesnt work for me- but Im pretty sure the Colt Cobra will. Thanks!

I know this is your list, BUT.... To others reading this, don't rule out DA only revolvers. Especially in a J Frame size. A revolver that small is meant to be carried. You carry one for that life threatening moment. You're not going to be using single action in that time. I'm not against one having an exposed or spured hammer, but be sure and practice in DA. That's how you'll use it.

  • @TheGDizzo

The LCRx .357 is pretty awesome! Users w/ little experience won't like firing .357's out of it though. Bought it for a woods carry piece for my son while we're deer hunting, so he'd have a capable round, but still nice and light. Can't screw up under duress and forget to disengage a safety, can't screw up and accidentally drop the mag. And surprisingly the sights are easier than you'd think to use.
NOTE: On these lightweight revolvers though... you don't want to allow any cartridges to make more than one trip around the cylinder though whilst firing. Because the bullets will start to jump the crimp and become pulled out of the brass a bit, and it can cause the bullet to become soo moved forward (pulled back out) within the brass that it can block the cylinder from being able to rotate. So important point to know!
RUGER TAKE NOTE : My only minor quibble at all about the LCRx, is that they should probably make the button for the cylinder release juuuust like 1 or 2 millimeters taller. For my wife, whose been assessed as "pre-arthritic" in terms of hands/fingers, depressing that button was just a leeetle bit harder than it should be for a device meant to safe your life. And even for myself I noted that it's slightly harder to actuate than you'd think it should be. Might loosen up with use though, but still, wouldn't add appreciable weight to make that small button taller, and I believe would nicely up the ergonomics of it.

You can knock charter arms all you want but I love them and have had great luck with them . 5 years ago I purchased a charter arms "mag pug " 5 shot .357 snubby .. stainless $360 NEW .. it's a fantastic gun not a Smith or a Colt or even a Ruger but still a fantastic gun that I can shoot well.. it's single action is probably the best I've ever felt on any gun.. the only drawback is the front sight is kind of high.. this can be resolved by filing down the front sight approximately halfway.. until its alignment is correct .. if you don't want to file the front site down just get used to putting the bottom portion of the front sight in the rear notch and you will be right on target.. I can shoot this accurately with 357 up to about 40 ft.. I have shot 200 rounds of full House 357 and 300 rounds of plus p38 and the gun is still nice and tight... It has factory porting six holes on top that help keep the muzzle rise down I paint the front sight with bright orange blaze paint..

    Sorry Yankee......
Ruger SP101 Wiley Clapp edition with my own Novak night sights for the win here.
While I truly wish Ruger would offer 6 shots in it rather than 5?
If Im goning to be shooting .357 magnum in a small revolver thats not a K sized frame?
Id rather have 26.0-28 oz's of steel and a 3-inch barrel or true 2 inch barrel.
Now, the Smith and Wesson Model 60 IS a nice revolver?
But I dont think it can hold up quite as well to .357 magnum, over the long haul.
    While the Ruger SP101 can.

Ruger SP101 is a 5 shot so it wont be on this list, here is number 5 and 4 they are S&W 5 shots HAHA! I think I get what you are saying, for the weight of the gun you would be better off getting a 6 shot? No honorable mention to the Taurus 605 just based off its price point and reputation for being a reliable pistol?

The Chaippa Rhino 200DS is roughly the same size as the model 60, less weight and one extra round.

Things rarely said by anyone about Ruger revolvers, "its kinda heavy for what it is".

Had one of these and got rid of it because 357 rounds would slide back and lock the cylinder up

You may not notice the recoil under duress but you sure will while practicing and you may not practice as much. Also recoil affects follow up shots. Hello.

There is no real world evidence of your claim. In shootings where adrenaline is present shooters often state they had no sensation or injuries let alone recoil of a weapon. Your perception of recoil is only noticeable when you have no distractions. You may disagree but show me just one case where a person noted that recoil from the first shot was the cause of sequent misses or hesitation, just one.

The prices of these revolvers range from $650 to $1,200 and this apparently didn’t factor into Yankee’s ranking system. Ruger LCRx for the win.

@@CorvZ061 i hope you kept the grips because they are perfect to use when you go hunting. I carry it when i go out with my 357 lever in deer season. I wish i had a set of them just for that.

I've wanted the k6s since it came out its a beautiful gun. Can you do a top carry 40 cal video?

  • @brianpartlow5530

I watch these videos for entertainment, you are funny while being informative. The SP101 is too big to be on a j frame list. It's a medium sized revolver. So is your #1 pick. The Kimber is too heavy. J frames are 5 shot, feather weight guns. Your carry gun needs to be fun to shoot so you'll train and practice with it. If you have to look to make sure your hand is still there after every shot then you need a bigger gun or a 38 special. 357magnum is a great round for a medium to full size revolver. I have an LCR in 38 special +P. It's enough to ruin a bad guy's day without destroying the joints in my hand if I want to put a few boxes of carry ammo through it at the range.

    • @mattatomattahto
      @mattatomattahto Год назад

Honestly if you're looking for price to performance you might do better going for a more modern gun for carry. Revolvers are a much smaller market than they once were so the prices are inflated for what they really bring to the table as far as function.
