- European Tour Originals presents the Chase The Ace 50/50 Hole-In-One Challenge, starring Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.
The odds suggest a Tour pro's chances of making a hole-in-one are roughly one in 2,500.
In four previous episodes, we’ve given players 500 balls and an entire day to try to make an ace. However, to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates, this time we gave two of the world’s best players just 50 attempts each…
Could they defy the odds to find that one perfect shot? A 148-yard par three at Abu Dhabi Golf Club awaits. Here’s what happened…

Can we talk about the fact that JT stuck one inside a foot, immediately dropped another ball, and managed to get closer? Perfect example of why these guys are pros!
@@darrencain1092 lmao
I had to go back and watch it one more time. Stupid good.
It’s only a 148 yds! No one of them went in. They aren’t that good!
@@bulldawgmoore6584 lol u clearly know nothing about golf my guy
@@felixletarte and you clearly know nothing about me my dude! 😀
The accuracy and consistency is almost intimidating for us mere mortals.
This makes me feel how much I need to appreciate the only hole in one I have had as an amateur before I watched I was sure one of them would get it
But you also have to remember that they only showed the good shots, when you hear what they say you know there were also a lot of bad shots
@@ultrabluesea9182 And you also have to remember "bad" in their sense is a good shot for the majority of us. Especially in a situation like this where they deem everything outside a gimme as a "poor" shot. There's no way an amateur would be able to do what JT did to stick it within a couple of CM back to back.
@@JunixZzHD agreed 👍sticking it to within 10 ft most shots is just ridiculous
@@ultrabluesea9182 Not really. 88/100 within 20', 54/100 within 10', 31/100 within 5', 18/100 within 3'... I a bogey golfer, but struggle with accuracy. If I had 100 shots at that distance, I doubt I would put more than 5 within 5' if that many. They had that many within a few inches.
*hits the fringe*
“That’s horrendous”
Hahahha I know right
Well they are the best players in the world with a pitching wedge so it is pretty bad for them; especially after they've hit the same shot like 20 times
McIltoy now sporting a muffin top?
I would be disappointed if i hit the fringe with a pitching wedge
@@theisottosen626 Same
This was cool! Great video
Your go now Rick on the sim!!! 500 balls Molinari-style?!
After his 14club challenge against Pete I’d defo watch it 😂sorry Rick
The man, the legend.
You should try this rick!
lol .... suckle that teet Rick
After 34 years of golfing, I’ve never had a hole in one. My wife second time playing hit a 143 par 3 hole in one, then asks , is that good? 😂
You should have said no😂
Is she still alive.....
I'm sorry to hear about your divorce...
Coulda told her "Good Par" and she would've never known.
I hope you told her she had a penalty for something
Ball that’s 10 feet away: “That’s horrendous”
I barely hit the far side of the green: “Hell ya, I’m gonna go pro at this rate”
Horrible sense of realism if you think that after hitting a green
@@AbleAnderson hes obviously joking
@@da2552 I get it but a joke like that should hit home, and I'm pointing out why it doesn't for me; I've never thought I should go pro for hitting a green. I get he wasn't being literal, I'm more explaining why the joke missed for me.
@@AbleAnderson youll be ok
@@da2552 You'll be ok too. Don't get so mad that I commented on his joke. Just relax bud, the world isn't ending. You'll be fine, I promise
The better the shot, the worse it feels.
It's amusing in a perverse sort of a way!
Thomas's father: "You missed the green with two different clubs." Thomas: "Thank you very much." These are all good people.
I laughed so hard haha
All good people except Justin Thomas
Love these hole in one with 50 shots videos. It really exposes the almost unreasonable confidence pros have. They expect to make it and the ultra competitive nature pulls out the frustration as well.
It's interesting how they seem to attribute their lack of success to something lacking in their own skill rather than it simply being a rare event (1 in 2,500) that will be difficult to achieve. The frustration seems to set in very early considering they've only hit 50 balls.
@@hughgurney8686 well that's exactly how the brain works. If you set too difficult a goal it will become very frustrating which is why it's wise to take small steps. These are however pros and they have about the best chances to make this happen given 50 shots, but the exact same thing happens to them - they hit a lot of amazing shots they'd love to do in a tournament, but here they don't get that endorphin response because even though they were amazing, they were also failures at their goal.
Hard props to the production team. This was so well made with the filming, music, etc. Spot on!
McIlroy and JT have great chemistry too
So well made that the production team forgot about the Rolex clock in the background. The original video was significantly cut up, edited and mixed in order to make it a more hyped up and entertaining video.
European Tour is so good at making content. Wish the PGA’s RUclips was this good.
Agreed
JT's Dad: You missed the green with 2 different clubs
Me: Watch me miss it with all 14!
Can't shank the putter so maybe you miss only with 13?
@@greatgolfer23watch me
"Not even close... I'm yelling at a ball that's 20ft short." Oh shut the front door! That's a gimme as far as I'm concerned.
"I've lost the ability to hit a cut"
Me: "what's a cut?"
It’s a slice that’s on purpose!
@@tlim I think he’s being sarcastic lol
I love how seriously Rory takes these challenges. He starts off light hearted then the competitive sides rears its head and he goes full on.
This video was amazing , please do more of these European tour
I absolutely love this. Every golfer needs this video in their life.
So how many hole-in-ones have you had?
M.A.Jiménez : Yes !
I'm approx a 12 handicap but had one freak round in 2005 where I had birdie, tap-in eagle, bogey, birdie, birdie, and 🕳hole-in-one (200yd 5 iron cut) in a 6 hole stretch. The bogey was a 3 putt from 8 feet😱. Never even came close to that day again. Was a gift from above.😁
*hits a different shot that goes close*
"what did you change rory?"
"i don't know"
Looked like he knocked it down. Unless there is a backstop, a knockdown shot with a ball that doesn't spin very much so it will gently roll out might be the best bet.
Pretty much how it goes lmao
What a great vid, really enjoyed it and its great to see Justin and Rory enjoying themselves! Just for the record, I've had one hole-in-one, 158yd uphill par 3. Horrible contact, lost it with the sun in my eyes...looked everywhere else then thought "I'll just check the hole" - it was in there!!! I was playing on my own and not one of my golf buddies will ever believe me. But I know... ball is on a plinth in my room 😅👍
These guys just hit more shots inside of a foot with 50 balls each than I have my entire life.
Justin is my spirit golfer the way he talks.
When told it was 2 inches away, just pure sarcasm as a reply. Then "I just wanna throw my club so bad" 🤣
The production level of this video was A++. More please.
what an awesome video guys. Would love to see more vids with Rory and Justin
Lol hits it with a foot everytime and says "I'm just not good at this game"...
He said “there’s just no good in this game”
Rory at 6:03 to 6:19 just described the ethos of golf perfectly lol
WE NEEDED THIS AT THIS EXACT TIME
The fact that these guys actually mean to hit the ball like they do and it does this is just ART. I just hope I hit it forwards 😅
Would love to see either of these guys do the 500 shot. We need more of those. Just superb viewing every time.
Never aced a hole would like to try but all day😊
I've played your course many times. It's nice there.
I just hope JT is having a nice day wherever he is
Starts of with a powerful positive statement " only get 1 first shot to get a hole in one" then goes to self-hatred "Not even close... I'm yelling at a ball that's 20ft short." - Golf is the biggest rollercoaster ride of mental frustration and strength. Prove me wrong.
Very entertaining, thank you for that ET!
me: *tries to hit green in 50 shots*
Love the drama starting at 5:07. I nearly shed a tear
*WE NEED MORE CONTENT LIKE THIS!* 🔥
These videos are so ridiculously good
"Two inches to the left" JT: "Coooool" 😂😂
Disappointed that they didn't do the 500 ball challenge.. definitely need more of those.. those guys are just distrought afterwards
"I want to throw my club so bad"
JT, I have & it feels good.
Until you hear a splash
Justin: "What are you doin' different?
Rory: "I don't know"!
Classic!!!
JT “ooh he’s on to something folks, what did he do differently?”
Rory “I don’t know .. *goes dead straight, perfect flight*”
Pros are so annoyingly good lol
I LOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE these hole in one videos. I just wish they had to do 250 each. It's great watching a pro lose his damn mind.
“Thats 2 inches to the left”
“Cool”
3:00
“Homies got his hands on his head”🤣
The fact JT still asks whats wrong with his swing is super cool
Love when JT’s dad roasts him 😂🤣
@3:02 “it’s about 2 inches to the left”
JT: “COOL” 😂
"I want to throw my club so bad" is so relatable.
The sad/inspirational music toward the end absolutely slayed me. 😂😂
The production on this is absolutely amazing.
Imagine the amount of divots to be repaired
Dont have to, it would be 100 divots.....
Watching this makes me even more impressed that Thomas Pieters hit 500
That was fun to watch.....I think this is the kind of stuff fans want to see. Just to see them talking and interacting and being themselves.
After 50 years, one hole in one with a 7 wood 220 yard par 3.
That's a nuked 7 wood
When he said, “I wanna throw my club so bad.” I felt that on a personal level
"I need a mental reset"
Pretty fitting after missing the cut last week
The Euro tour has the best media. They always put out such quality videos
This is the content the people deserve. Keep it coming!
*ball stops 2 inches from the hole
"I wanna throw my club so bad"
The sound of their shots are therapeutic.
I watched my dad shank a 6 iron on a 146 yard par 3, on Father’s Day, to within a 1/2 inch on the hole. One of the best rounds of golf ever. These boys casually launching choked down PWs that far...always rooting for these 2.
Hole 7 Lancaster golf club. Lancaster SC
Rory and JT are two of my favorite players, this was so fun to watch
That was fun. Shows you how difficult it is to ace out. How many times did they miss the green?
My first few months golfing I put one in from 140.. never even gotten close to that again even with all the improvements in my game. Sometimes the stars align for us mere mortals.
I absolutely love this challenge. Keep on doing this please.
With all the skill in the world, it still doesn't happen. Well done guys, love these hole in one videos.
Normally you would be for so many of those shots, but in this challenge to hit shots less than a foot away just tears their hearts out.
Awesome video ... JT is hilarious
These are always great!
Keep them coming!
I played in an outing with a new red corvette convertible as the hole in one prize.
A 23 year old girl won it hitting a worm burner driver from 147 yards. At the presentation when asked if she had ever made a hole-in one before, she replied that she had never even made a PAR before!
“That’s two inches to the left”
“COOL👍”
Classic JT
Can we Miguel Angel Jimenez do it? If he gets it early. Get him to keep doing it to see how many he gets
"Wedge is the better club here"
What, for 148 yds? You mean a perfect 8i?
These guys are so funny in these competitions.
Like the one with Rory and the robot swinging into washing machines 🤣
I think The Match has shown we could use more varied and casual golf entertainment. The only thing holding it back is that the focus still is on competitiveness and fund raising which is fine, but I like the heart-to-heart, hearing players and celebrities discussing golf as life lessons, things like this that there's rarely any opportunity for.
Like a podcast where a round of golf breaks out.
Rory had it at the definition of insanity: Trying to do the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
This video is a testament to just how difficult the game of golf is. It seems so simple, hit it in the hole, but it is in my opinion one of the hardest things in sports
The “simplicity” is what makes us so frustrated too. It SEEMS so simple, when in reality it’s absurdly difficult
I’m an 11 handicapper. Lucky to have had 2 hole in ones in my 15 years of playing golf. First one was unbelievably lucky playing against my head teacher and it slam dunked straight in the hole. I thought it had hit the pin and gone flying off the green. Walk up to the green and there is a huge dent in the cup and my ball was in the hole. Stupidly hit the same ball of the next tee and spunked it in the water. Second one was last year at Paisley golf club and you couldn’t see the ball go in the hole but had a feeling when it was hit
Rory said he hasn't made a hole in one in six years. That's wrong. I personally witnessed him make a hole in one five years ago. It was in a practice round for the 2016 Masters. Hole 16 at Augusta and I was in the bleachers. The pin was cut in the front middle of the green. Rory hit it about 10 feet past the hole and used the slope to bring it back down. As the ball began to trickle down and got closer and closer the murmers of the crowd grew and grew. Thinking about being smack in the middle of those roars when that ball dropped still gives me chills to this day.
This vid defines the ups and downs of golf....even for the pros!
Great vid!! More pro duos please
JT: "What are you doing different?" Rory: "I don't know!" Sounds just like us out there haha
JT "I'm just no good at this game."
Me: Have you seen me play?
What was the little green thing under each of their hat brims, right against the hair line?
Microphone.
Its crazy...iam 8handicap...when used to play competitive golf...i was 2handicap..used to practice 8hrs a day..my dad 18handicap...he got a hole in one in just 1st yr. Only ...when i was at the peak of my game...I didn't get any hole in one..now when iam playing not so good and just for fun...i got 2 hole in one...in 2017...after that its been 4yrs nothing ,came very close yesterday...it was just 1inch from hole, one of these days I will get another hole in one..i can feel it....its a crazy game..all luck when it comes to hole in one...no matter how good of a ball striker you are..😂
These videos are so excellent! Hope to see more in the future! They both came so close 😭
Yeah I've only seen the teasers yet but I think it's gonna be another great video
LMAO "cool" has me dying 2:54
The somber music has me crying 😂😂😂
Thus is the the 14th at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Played there a lit when I lived in Abu Dhabi. Tough Green to hit let alone get a hole in one. Amazing they were hitting pitching wedges. 7 iron for me. These top pros are brilliant 👏
Closest I've ever seen to a hole-in-one is my buddy who just took up golf. On a long downhill hole, he came up 40 yards short, hit the cart path, bounced forward 30 yards, hit the downslope and kicked the ball forward across the green and it ran by an inch left and 5 inches past the hole.
So, he's just as good as these guys.
THAT, was a great video. Thank you, ET!
That was so awesome to watch. I’ve always wanted to see something like this. Very well done.
That was fantastic. I can breath again now
This was fantastic to see the pro struggling like the we do..
man, these guys are so good.
Well finally something that I could do just as well at as these two by going 0 for 100 in hole in ones
"Cause it's so hard, you come so close but it's...not...good enough."
"You'd take that shot all day in a tournament and you're absolutely distraught with that here."
No matter how good you are, you can set expectations at a level that makes you seem bad. If you find yourself repeatedly failing at something and getting frustrated, maybe it's unrealistic to do in one shot. Break it down into multiple steps, adjust the par, take smaller swings, and bask in your new success.
I would have liked to see them change their strategy a little. They seemed to be trying to 'stick it' and finish close to the hole. But in doing so, they gave themselves two variables to control, having to dial in the line and the distance. Their goal is a hole in one and not low score. I think they should of eliminated the distance variable a little by purposely undershooting and rolling up past, or overshooting and backspinning past the hole; giving themselves a better chance that if their line was good, the ball would already be on the trajectory to intersect with the hole. But that's just from someone who definitely couldn't be making these shots with this consistency. Great vid guys!
