    Thank you 🙏🏻 so much. It has taken a long time for the level of public understanding to reach the point where the things you express are now true and obvious to many viewers. The more that one watches the video of these bonobos- and contrasts it with video of other bonobos and chimpanzees who have not acquired a deep understanding of human language - the more one begins to grasp the very essence and power of language. The interaction with these bonobos is based on love, language, deep extended personal and familial relationships. It does not reflect reward based repetition or control. Every aspect of the work each day was to enable THEM to develop their own abilities according to their own inner motivation. They are not trained animals in any sense of the term. They are spontaneous, loving, creative and kind. They are ready however to defend their family and what they believe to be right - at a moment’s notice. They are not subdued, drugged or forced in any manner.
    Other researchers who have wanted to study them - but who did wish to expend the time and effort necessary to develop a true relationship- did resort to such tactics. This is very sad and unfortunate- because it prevents humanity from understanding the true potential of apes, our strong connection to them, and the possibilities for inter-species language

      Sue Rumbaugh in one video I watched about you and Tiko you talked about him not having the clinging ability like the other baby bonobos or something along the lines of that, so could that mean he would be able to learn more human like skills than his parents?

      Bonobos are the sex crazed tree hugging hippies, and chimps are the 1percent Hells Angels. To think most of you are convinced were hyper evolved apes on a giant rock spinning through outer space. I will admit, other than Damian Aspinell, you're the only other person I've seen qualified to work with apes. Jane humanized them and caused thousands to be experimented on by the military. Right now China is literally creating human chimp chymeras.

    This is very interesting. When Kanzi was exploring the keyboard, at 03:10 was able to play octaves, clearly able to distinguish the harmony. When Kanzi played with the guys his performance was not only harmonic, but he also cought the goove of the song and performed a rithm.
    At this rate three more generations down the line and we will see them talk. Amazing work.

      Yeah I was saying the same thing. Having a little knowledge on music theory you can see that what she does (I don't think that was kanzi playing but actually his sister panbanisha) could be considered a very primitive form of music.

      Ahahaha, no. Sorry, I want that too, but they literally aren’t built for it, and it’ll take a _lot_ longer than 150 years for them make noticeable changes.
      In order to begin speaking with any clarity they need further development of their hyoid bone and their larynx needs to extend vertically a bit more. That’s the work of hundreds of generations or more. Probably more. Unfortunately we’ll not witness them actually speak but I’m so happy Kanzi and Koko gave us a glimpse of their potential.

      SomeDude
      That was my exact reaction when I heard this happen. I could NOT do what they were doing - and I knew no one taught them how to this - what was going on here - what was happening?
      What was happening is now being understood as scientists are at last measuring what takes place between the brains of beings, rather than focusing on a single being. What takes place is that Consciousness Fuzzes and the two begin to co-create new things that neither can produce alone. This is what happens only when we “bond” - and thus NOTHING really happened with Peter and the bonobos for several weeks and then they bonded and could co-play, co-create, co-think. Each took a bit from the other and made something new which you get to see recorded REAL TIME as it took place. Prior to this something similar happened between the Stone Tool maker Nick Toth and Kanzi. After they bonded - Kanzi began to make stone tools which I could not do and had not taught him how to do. And then a few years later it happened between Kanzi’s sister Panbanisha and Nick’s wife Kathy Schick. They bonded and Kathy could show Panbanisha how to make tools and she was quickly better than Kanzi at this though he has been practicing for several years by then. This made Kanzi jealous - so Panbanisha had to do her toolmaking quietly, off to side and off camera. This was an exact mirroring of Kathy as she had to do hers quietly and off to side as well, in order not to upstage Nick. In fact, I had known them for years and thought that only Nick knew how to knap stone, as it is difficult to do. This illustrates how the basic roles of male and female are transmitted in the acquisition of new skills. But Peter took either musical role easily - he was not gendered in that sense - and he could co-play with either sex. They understood that quickly. They kept their respective personal styles and Peter immediately adapted his styles real time. What this means is - if Peter co-play with YOU and if you both bonded - you would suddenly improve and be able to do musically things you can’t do now. All musicians know this and with recordings and video they bond with persons no longer living in bodily form - they do so BECAUSE they want to BE like them and BECAUSE they start co-playing with the recordings of person no longer living and the nature of music itself begins to act through the seeming veil of time - and the magic happens to them also - even with “brains” that are no longer embodied. Scientists have not yet determined to measure this event between brains - but with the current progress of AI and the mapping of inter-individual neural nets they will become able to attempt this - and then they will begin to document the echoes of quatumness and “spooky action at a distance.”

    • @kanziwamba9293
      @kanziwamba9293  4 года назад +10

      Yes there was a shared consciousness that arose with Gabriel - after he made every effort to understand their concept of music and co-play. They linked into him and decided to do their best as he was clearly trying. There arose mutual respect and regard through joint musical effort. They shared moments of conscious co-creation. Other musicians thought they would step right in and do the same without establishing a joint understanding and joint regard and joint respect. That never worked.

    • @khybot
      @khybot 4 года назад

      @@kanziwamba9293 Thank you. You bring up some interesting ideas. Especially the idea of understanding and respecting the bonobo concept of music / co-play and what I see as culture. I think it's interesting in other videos I've seen, how you've adapted to bonobo culture and ways of communicating as much as they have to yours. It seems like you share that same respect for their way of being.
      Music, seems partially cultural (scales, genres, etc) but to some extent transcends culture (sound, rhythm, melody). I wonder if Gabriel being such a gifted and experienced musician was better able than others to transcend his own cultural concept of music to connect with Panbanisha. Perhaps Gabriel had a deeper sensitivity or openness. And Panbanisha's experience with humans probably helped her. Also, I don't think this was Panbanisha's first time making music.
      Another idea I had was that perhaps since both of them were "famous" in their own worlds, they could more easily relate to and respect each other.
      It seems some bonobos like to make music. It would be interesting to see them develop as musicians and transmit that musical culture across generations, the way humans have.

It's upsetting how may conflicts there were in that facility and that Sue didn't manage to return the bonobos to the Congo as she wanted to. Plus the new management didn't even try to cooperate with Sue or her boss. I think the bonobos' diet probably needed to be modified but that could have been done without firing all the people the bonobos loved dearly. It's also suspicious that they didn't investigate who injured Teco while Sue was away even though two independent vets agreed with Sue that the caregivers must have lied about the cause.

    Bonobo Hope has been working hard to give them their freedom - We had funding to do so in 2013 but AI took over the project by secretly transferring the building to themselves without telling anyone. Then they locked out all BHI members and got police support to keep them out. They have refused all offers to allow the bonobos true freedom and all requests to observe the current care and conditions of the bonobos - which many have said need vast improvement but are afraid to speak out on behalf of the bonobos for fear of being removed.

    There is a sense of timing and phrasing in Panbanishas playing which is mindblowing. At one point she plays the same note rhythmically many times in a row and then alternates the same note with a higher note played in the same rhythm. I didn't catch how many degrees apart the notes were but I think they were in the same octave. just the idea of alternating between two notes is the foundation of melody. And you get the sense she has a primitive grasp on the very concept or music itself. The satisfaction of putting pleasing sounds together to create melody.

    You can use either spoken English or lexigrams but there are many more English words than lexigrams so you can communicate much more with spoken English. They will however respond only in a very partial or limited way to those that they do not trust completely.

    That's incredible! Have you had a piano teacher try to teach them some simple songs? I'm sure you could find someone willing - I know I would die to have an opportunity like that! He's clearly actually got a lot of skill - he could tell what key the musicians were in and kept playing a note in that key at the end there!
    As I'm sure you know, there's so much we don't understand about music and why people enjoy it. The fact that he not only enjoys it, but even seems to have the same grasp of chord structure - that alone shows so much about neurobiology!

When Sue told Panbanisha that Kanzi was visiting Matata and that she couldn’t do the same, Panbanisha’s expression was so incredibly human. She turned immediately with surprise and then disappointment. It was just like I was looking at any other person’s reaction. I’ve also noticed that when both Kanzi and Panbanisha make the short, high-pitched vocalization, it seems to always be affirmative, as though they are saying “yep.” I’m very curious if that is accurate.

      What methods are being used?? Possibly they are not sufficiently calibrated or sufficiently innovative?
      Or perhaps he knows that Kanzi is taking this role for the group at the moment? Kanzi is be better prepared to do meaningless tasks for humans and is willing. That has been Kanzi’s own conscious choice.
      If you know the literature you know that it was proven over and over and over that presentations of stimuli in a non real context did not work with Lana or Sherman or Austin and especially not with any bonobo.
      What is required is TRUE trial one data. To understand what that means you must begin with Rumbaugh’s transfer index, then you must understand Sidman’s concept of stimulus equivalence and Skinner’s reinforcement strategies AS they relate to Verbal Behavior - his book - and to Deacon’s book The Symbolic Species. Then you must translate the concept of trial one learning into a real world context filled with meaning that is relevant at the moment. After you have learned to understand how the bonobos are able to talk with gaze and vocalizations by working with a LOT of video - high quality video where you can actually SEE them -and done your homework -as per above - you are ready to begin to think about what kind of paradigm MIGHT reveal Teco’s true intelligence- it would also be of help to you if looked at what he could do with an IPad and a camera at 6 months of age and up.
      I have written out for Jared the methodological steps that need to be taken with the bonobos for 3 separate projects that will begin to reveal their true intelligence. BHI has been seeking earnest honest collaboration since May at every opportunity and seeking to help with funding. Jared has not responded- except to say the BHI and AI boards would meet but no meeting is ever scheduled.
      Anyone wanting to prove how smart any of the bonobos in Iowa is - needs to begin by understanding their rearing and the literature but Jared banned everyone from the facility who understood that and all were ready and willing to assist him.
      Good science proceeds by small steps and many have been taken with Teco - there is no reason to throw them away and to try to replace them with a method that will not work except to replicate the many findings about why MOST of the methods used to “teach” apes language don’t work.
      They also don’t work with children with language delays. You can keep replicating these negative findings as long as needed till you begin to realize that the problem is NOT Teco - in the meantime I AM certain that Clara and Mali are being taught much Bonobo style - is anyone documenting this?
      The work is a long-term Cross-generational cross-cultural paradigm - and now for six years data it has been stopped, people ready to assist were systematically removed and given misinformation over and over about BHI.
      And data on the socio- cultural linguistic milieu has gone uncollected, while all previous data stored on the computer, all video, all artifacts, all video - etc. has been TAKEN - perhaps even destroyed. WHY? This is a great loss to Science.
      Now that two new bonobos have been introduced the most important thing is to understand their enculturation.

      They are being treated well. And we are learning from them. They're probably fairly happy. I would be.
      They even get to have a little family. In the wild they might be hunted for bushmeat by poor africans. And their kids sold into the black market pet industry because they're is not enough meat on them. And then thrown out when they stop being cute. These people up here actually has some awareness of what these animals need. And some respect for them.

    Sue... Does Kanzi really appreciate music? Do any of the great apes like music? I imagine it requires incredible intelligence to appreciate any style of music. You must be able to understand where it's going, even though we all say we hate predictable music. It's got to be somewhat predictable, formulaic, and structured. All music is. If it isn't, it would seem quite like random noise. So I wonder if an ape, even though they are rather bright, may hear music as just bings and bangs and too 'random' for their brains to organize and appreciate. I probably am making very little sense. I'm probably not articulating my point clearly enough. But I suspect music has more going on in the subconscious mind than we give it credit. And that's why I theorize that great apes, and all animals apart from humans, probably do not appreciate music in any meaningful way. Because to them it's just to random. It's just strange pitches and timbres and tones... they can't remember, and predict, what they've heard and what they will hear... they can't organize the sounds into structured parts, et cetera... Well, that's my two cents.... Am I way off? I may be.
    I'd love to hear you explain these great apes and their interaction with music. Do they care for it? Do they prefer one style over another? Perhaps more percussive sounds would be something they'd like. Can they even hear the same range as humans? I suspect their hearing must be very similar to ours in range. That is, we hear 20hz to 20,000hz. I'd imagine their hearing falls in this range.
    In any case... can you talk briefly about Kanzi's appreciation or lack thereof for music? Does he have preferences?

    • @mickobrien3156
      @mickobrien3156 4 года назад

      PS: I said Kanzi... I admit I can't tell them all apart. But just in general from your experience... if you can briefly explain how the bonobos you worked closely with feel about music... I'd sure be all ears to listen to your experience sharing music with bonobos.... Thank you for your time.

      Well music is related to language. And we are the only ape with those skills inborn. But they could probably associate certain sounds with positive emotions. Ive heard that they have successfully made music for cats by mimicking various noises relatable to cats. Birds like music to.
