This channel contains original video of the bonobos and chimpanzees who participate in the orginal research program of Duane Rumbaugh and Sue (Savage) Rumbaugh, first at Geogia State Univeristy and then at Iowa. It is copy righted by Dr. Sue (Savage) Rumbaugh. The footage illustrates the methodological differences that evolved across time in the research, from from Lana through the use of dialogue, to inter-chimpanzee communcation between Sherman and Austin, to the removal of training with the bonobos and the emphasis on speech in combination liexgrams.
Bonobo Panbanisha's experiments with make-up
The bonobos as they grew up in the forests of Georgia they often encountered dangerous things, including panthers, bears, eagles, hawks, and - on a regular basis, beings that we could not see or hear but they could see or hear them and insisted to us - that these beings were there. Sometimes they showed us places that had been altered in the vegetation. Often times, if the dogs traveled with us, they heard what the bonobos heard. We sometimes painted our faces to scare these being away. Kanzi is breaking barriers between what has been thought or assumed about ape intelligence & sentience. This research also helps to bridge the gap between humans and apes who share majority of our dna. Being around Kanzi is so interesting.
