I'm a Brit living in Finland and use RUclips and other sites to download UK series that I can't view over here. I've spent weeks looking for an answer to this annoying problem and your tutorial has resolved the issue. Absolutely brilliant! If there were RUclips Tutorial medals you'd get a Gold! Thanks so much.
I found the issue ! Had to turn on logging to do so. VLC tries all the LUAC files to find one that can process the URL. I didn't delete the original LUAC file, I just renamed it. I didn't realize it was using a 'brute-force' approach to see what LUAC script would be able to process the URL. The log showed me that it found my renamed LUAC and it failed to extract the video file location. So I deleted the renamed LUAC and voila, it worked. And it didn't care where VLC was installed - I did test both the default 64-bit location and on another drive - same outcome. Thanks for this - a big time saver !
Mac users: The file location for the youtube.luac file is: /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/share/lua/playlist/ And yes, this tip works on a Mac too! Thank you, Jason for the update!
Okay, had problems with the fix, but went back and followed his EXACT instructions at 5:00 (checking the box in options). Made all the difference and now works. Thank you for this video!!
your a legend bro, NO CLICKBAIT HERE! I appreciate an honest , straight up, content maker. thank you. Im just annoyed i didnt find you before i watched the 15 other shitty vids.
That's was just great, I have been trying to sort this problem various ways, none of which worked, until I came back here where I got all the info to use VLC in the first place, to find you giving us another really well made easy to follow video to help us out. Brilliant, thank you.
Thank you ever so much for this video. I once used VLC to download the occasional video from youtube and then switched to using the Torch browser to download videos. Then I could no longer download any youtube videos at all. Starting around the second or third week of December 2019, something changed somewhere (perhaps over on youtube?) preventing me (and everyone else?) from downloading youtube videos. Curiously, when I look at the tabs that my Firefox browser shows me, I now see either (22) or (24) appended to the named tab right in front of the tab name. In the past, I do not think I ever saw this (22) or (24) appended to the named tab. Anyway, to make a long story short, I followed your instructions, exactly, on a Windows 10 laptop pc, using the 32 bit version of VLC, and your solution worked for me. I was able to download a youtube video. Thanks again!
Jason - Thank you. I followed your clear instructions and replaced the required file on my system drive. Mission accomplished. Thank you for uploading - Liked.
@@SuperPertinax What would you say to this please? I found this modified file didn't work if you copied to another Windows PC? I redone your process from that PC and all OK? update - saw a comment that it did not work on the 64bit version - so I removed the 64 bit version and installed the regular version - which i assume the 32 bit version - did all of the steps over again - to my surprise - IT WORKED
funny I just saw your old video and downloaded the current VLC and it works still .There is also another way to paste the codec stream in a browser and right-click to save it. Much faster than having to record the entire video. What I want to know is how to record in the full 4K stream from VLC>
It worked. I played a video I closed VLC. Then when i restarted the programm it didn´t work anymore. I reset my settings put in the luac file again and it still doesnt work.
was watching youtube (VLC LUA FIX } Really like to watch. I thought I would try to fix My VLC I went to my Explorer & went through 12 steps to get to youtube.luac.That looked easy next I copy the address on your youtube Got to the copy that whole page.Did not see any place to paste and open The youtube.txt
Thanks for the video! Though it didn't completely work for me I was able to find a solution. For me the notepad file I created from copying and pasting the code into it kept saving as a text document instead of a LUAC file even though I did as you showed and added the ".luac" extension to the file name. And whenever I would try to just edit the original RUclips.luac file within the folder, windows wouldn't allow me to save the changes to the file saying I needed permission from the file creator despite me being the system administrator. So my solution I came up with was to cut the original youtube.luac file from the folder and paste it to my desktop. Then while it was on my desktop and removed from the protected VLC folder I was able to delete the contents of the original file and paste the copied script from the webpage link onto the original file, then paste that same folder back into the VLC playlist folder. After that my problem was solved. Hope this helps someone else.
