    It really amazes me how much people abuse they're consoles. How can you destroy these consoles this badly? I still have my 16 year old PS2 I've had since 2005, and it literally STILL LOOKS THE SAME as it did when I unboxed it. My Xbox One of 8 years since 2014, same thing: still LOOKS THE EXACT SAME. I'll never understand how people tear up their consoles cosmetically with liquids, scratches and just dirt in general.

    • @Mallagen
      @Mallagen 2 года назад +18

      Parents taking their kids consoles away as a punishment and just throwing them in a closet or a box not knowing how fragile they can be. My dad used to turn off my ps4 by just unplugging it from the wall whenever he stopped using it until I explained to him it can damage it in the long run.

      @@nexxusty Yeah. It saddens me to see these beautiful fat Backwards compatible PS3s abused. If I ever owned one from the beginning, I would never let them get this bad. I got one used a year ago, and it didn't last long because the previous owner did not take good care of it. I since then got a slim one in pretty good condition, and it runs perfectly. I plan to take care of it as best as possible, it's been good for over a year now, still running great.

    Good choice on keeping the BC one. I got myself two (the chrome one, and the FULL BLACK trim one) and the black one is a bit of a pain to get on track but it's hopefully coming together soon. I'll try the cap replacement on the topside as I got nothing to lose. A plus to the board I had received yesterday for it (which doesn't yet work) is the CPU and GPU were delidded, so I guess that's a big plus.

    This was awesome, sir. I started working on PS3 phats back in 2010 and after a lot of trial and error, managed to fix several dozen. I wish I knew about the capacitors back then because I always either reflowed them or reballed the GPU and then put back on. Like you, I kept the backwards compatible one for myself and the other ones, I sold. I still have one I reballed that lasted about 5 yrs but YLOD came back. After restart console work normal like nothing happen. Check HDD with Sentinel low working hours and 100% health, try data recovery, system recovery, new system, new update... and always same problem. Fan is at low or second speed, new thermal... any next step input I will be appreciative.

    nope, the GPUs still are the problem. to really know what went wrong u need to connect to the SYSCON
    it can be that the caps are bad, but it also can be that the GPU is faulty, and your PS3 could have faulty GPU solder balls and they got reflowed in the process of replacing the caps. check out RIP Felix's video on that topic, he talks about pretty much everything that causes YLOD

    Question: I have an early model Fat PS3 (CHECHB01) don't have a yellow or red light of death but i have no display at all though occasionally after not running it for awhile i start it up and breifly get some pixelated garbage. This console was working fine one week and then the next week it wasn't. I may have plugged in the hdmi while the console was plugged into wall power and i have now heard it can kill the video chip. i would rather avoid replacing the chip as it is expensive and i frankly do not have the know how. Is it possible that i have the same Capacitor issue or does my problem sound different? I can provide more info if needed

    Maybe the drive was getting some heavy hits with the disk inside and some cogs got misalligned. Remember when Xbox One came out and had drive issues and the solution to that was to turn the machine upside down and give it a smack? Maybe it was similar here.
    I still have my old PAL 60GB PS2 backwards compatible PS3 that was struck with the infamous YLOD. I kept it for years in hope that some day they'll come up with a better cure than roasting it in an oven. And here we are, someone was clever enough to figure out that it was the caps all along. I think it's time to take out that PS3 from it's hybernation and look for suitable capacitors on my local parts webshop.

  • @whiskywaters

    The tokens aren't the issue, it's the GPU bumps. It's part of nvidia's bump gate scandal. Go check out the "RIP Felix" video on it.

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  Год назад +2

      Go back and watch his video all the way to the end. At the end of the video he admits that tokens actually can and do fail. The failure rate isn't as high as the GPU but to say that they are not the problem at all is false and misleading.

    Would having a custom fan curve at 40% on a chech0a help extend its life? Currently on mine, its stays around 60-62c cell, 55-57c rsx when gaming. Or would the console ultimately overheat and kill itself?

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  2 года назад

      I'm really not the best to give advice on this since I'm not a PS3 expert. But in my opinion as long as the thermal paste is fresh on the top and bottom of the heat spreader and as long as you have good circulation I would think it would be fine at the stock fan settings.

      The best fan is the 15 blade version. I swapped my 17 blade fan with a 15 blade nidec fan and the system ran a few degrees cooler according to Web man, and lower fan speeds were able to achieve the same results compared to the 17 blade fan running at a higher rpm.
