Work or Broke? - Watch me unbox 5 Canon A1s live and find out; video test

‪@WaybackRewind‬ - I am a huge fan of the Canon A-series Camcorders from the early 90s. Unfortunately, Canon used sub-standard capacitors in all of these cameras. The capacitors leaked and at this point in time, none of them work. I had the capacitors replaced in mine and it still does not work.
I said in an earlier video you could buy 10 of them and none of them would work. I tested that theory and tests multiple cameras to see if any of them will work.
Epilogue - After cooling off, the next day, #5 was able to power up and eject my tape, so I didn't have to disassemble it. But it's still Broke.

I bought a hi8 a1 and immediately fell in love with its design. Never have I held a device that just seemed to be built for me.
Camera against chest while left thumb manually zooms with right hand the rest. Holding it against myself felt natural and I could pan and zoom manually with very little effort.
A sport viewfinder was a had to have.
I have hi8 shot almost 35 years ago that still impresses.
Sadly, mine quit under warranty and they sent me back a scrappy, hard to hold steady mini camcorder, that my a1 was unfixable.
I would have preferred the a1 without record😢😢

My A1 Digital was my favorite camcorder of all time. I hate that none of them are still working.

Well hey you have 5 of them now so you have plenty of parts to choose from if you want someone to try and rebuild the caps and replace the boards haha

I have an A-1 but the ccd is screwed up and the tape deck doesn’t work

I'm wondering if i could cobble one working model A1 from the 5 broken ones? Probably not, they are all equally bad. The L2 is going to have to suffice and hopefully they work for a bit longer.

If you check the video out on all the camcorders pick the one with the best picture then take another camera and replace the viewfinder then it might work

@@WaybackRewind my childhood was recorded on a model similar to the A1 in form. Dead now, of course. The UC10 and models alike are very interesting to me, due to being so compact - yet so early models. But alas.. all dead.
