I have the specialized allez 2020 in red as my first ever road bike.
Loving it so far, doing 50km a day for the past month, would recommend getting the bike serviced initially to true the wheels before hand and making sure it’s in optimum condition before riding it if you bought it online from a specialized dealer. Only necessary thing is upgrading the brake pads to swissstop, Tektro aren’t the best in the rain, then again it is a rim brake but I’ve found swissstop to perform better.
Other than that I actually haven’t even had a flat although there are visible signs of punctures on the stock tires although it hasn’t touched the inner tube. The tires are decent although the side wall is not looking great so as a future investment I would recommend upgrading the tires to Vittorias corsa control tlr g 2 or corsa speed for major watt savings (not a good commuter tire) or continentals gp5000, paired with some continental super sonic inner tubes for easier riding. The frame is great and can handle a lot considering I am 5’8 and 91kg. I’ve lost over 9kg with this bike and can’t complain. The best value product I’ve ever bought, especially coming in at near 9kg for £650. Would recommend you guys who are keen on it and any other bikes just to wait abit so more stock comes in, refresh specialized concept store or any other stores every hour to check back for a restock in your size/colour, it will always restock and will restock at random times whether that be 2am or 3pm, just check as often as you can, in the end you’ll be able to buy any bike usually out of stock.

I purchased the RC500 as my first bike after doing some similar research. The criteria was to be a comfortable bike for longer rides in lockdown but also for a commute into London when the office opens again. So far I've gone from not riding a bike as a teenager to within touching distance of 100km rides from South London into Surrey and Kent. Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase and it feels like a great work horse which has given me confidence on the roads. Would recommend it to anyone who has similar criteria for their search who is watching this video.

I think things are a bit different in US, and probably also in AU. Most LBS near me carry TONS of Specialized, but not so much the entry level bikes, more so the mid levels between 2000-4000 USD price points.
I will say that I'm fairly impressed with Giant recently. Bought a 2019 Contend SL1, paid right around 1300 USD, came with 105, tubeless tyres, and hydraulic discs. Only thing that really should be upgraded are the heavy a** wheels!

I have a B'twin Triban 3. It's an amazing little bike (I'm a little man) it's got Shimano sora groupset, made from verly lightweight aluminum and has a full carbon fork, 23 speed and beautiful little neat rim brakes. And I can hit a very respectable mph on the flat. And it weighs a mere 10kgs for the grand total of £250 from Decathlon. I got it in 2013 and still have it.
I was looking at upgrading to a new bike at the weekend and seem one I likes for 1.5-2 grand. Which I don't mind paying, it's just that they all more or less had the same spec and they were only 1.2 kilos lighter in a lot of instances. So I'll stick with what I have the now. Once the cars paid off I'll treat myself but my wee red work horse does me th now

Why does every primary review site miss the vast majority of the cycling market? Most people vaguely interested in cycling would want something between 3000-5000 CAD. All I see reviews on is under 1000 and over 10000. It is interesting an fun to know what the weight and performance characteristics are for the pro level bikes....but only for interest's sake. We want to know the comparable weights of the bikes within our budget. How much does he $4000 Canyon compare to Trek, Giant, Specialized, Cannondale etc at the same price point. What do those similar models weigh, what are the relative performance characteristics. Which ones give you 3kg wheelsets to save $$ to keep the bike hitting the price point. These are useful reviews for the average consumer.
That and what nba3d said....everything (even super-bikes) are slim pickings these days!!

I needed a new bike quickly, because I overtrained myself with the heavy singlespeed. Decided on the new 2021 Trek Domane AL 2 Disc for €847.09, incredibly poor value for money and €338 more expensive than my 2019 Merida Scultura 100 with the same 8-speed Claris R2000 groupset, but it met all the criteria.
The bike is primarily used as a commuter bike, for which I needed wide tyres to cope with the incredibly bad German roads and cycle paths. I wanted a higher quality frame because in 2 years I will put a better groupset with much higher quality rims on it. I now have two entry-level bikes with the same groupo, but two very different areas of use. I paired the Scultura 100 with 42 mm deep section rims and Conti GP 5000 and use it as a training bike. It's impressive how much speed you can get out of such a simple bike.

To everyone who wants to get a really great bike for little money:
Buy used, there are many good bikes out there that you can get for half, a third or even less of the original price.
I got myself a Scott Addict R2 for 850€ including attachments such as clippless pedals, shoes and saddlebag.
The frame is made of full carbon, the groupset and brakes are Shimano Ultegra, the whole thing weighs 7.3 kg without attachments.
If you know a little bit what to look for, you can have a real superbike for less than 1000€.
But there are a couple of things to keep in mind:
The braketrack on the wheels should not be too stressed, if you can already feel an Elipse you should be careful, then the wheels may need to be replaced soon.
If the bottom bracket has a bit of play when moving sideways, it will likely need to be replaced as well, which costs around 50€, but is a bit trickier if you do it yourself.
Carbon frames should be checked for damage, paint damage of course doesn't do anything, but if the carbon itself is damaged I would be careful.
Aluminum tolerates damage a little bit better than carbon.

The triban RC 500 wheels are very questionable . The bike overall quality is low. I owned 2 bought in 2020 both returned to decathlon after 2 weeks of use. It is a good bike it gives good feeling of lightness and speed. However the breaks quality are a lottery and the wheels have issues of true, and spokes looses, tyres extremely difficult to remove them even with the best tools. I tried the rc520 some scenario unfortunately .

I'd be a bit weary of buying used carbon fiber because it can be crashed and look ok, but still have structural damage. If it was from a friend I trusted, I'd do it, but otherwise you're basically just take the stranger's word for it.

    • @trick700
      @trick700 4 года назад +1

Matt Sezer I agree it carries risks, like buying a second hand car; maintenance also an issue on carbon framed bike, like has correct torque settings for bolts been used. However, if you look at the story behind the bike, does the former owner care, find out how it has been maintained - ask for receipts etc., then, it is possible to make a good judgement yea or nay. If you sense something is not right it’s best to walk away.

I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
