    First time I actually paid money to author after watching a video.
    But the contents here are so valuable to my FreeCAD learning journey that it was well deserved.

    Hi Darren,
    Your FREECAD videos are amazing.
    Actually, for a freecad beginner as me, your tutorials are pretty useful.
    Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it. 😊👍

    This video and the Global/Local Coordinate video should be mandatory viewing before thinking of any designing. Getting a solid understanding of these fundamentals will save a lot of head scratching when your designs become more complex.

    Thanks a lot for all these explanations, i realise that Freecad is a real super power software (sometimes buggy if you don't use it normaly).

    I used to enjoy freecad when it was more intuitive (older versions), but would have given up on it as it gets more complicated if not for the help of your videos. Ta Thx!

      @@MangoJellySolutions I think my over all problem was trying to loft between two sketches which would have created two parts at once using the Parts Work Bench. Once I deleted half of the sketch, the problem was solved. I was trying to create two parts at once from the loft between the two sketches. I lofted the one part then duplicated it rather then creating two more sketches for the other half.

      That's great to hear, I was in two minds to post this one first before posting my next instalment of learning freecad for beginners as this gives the basics of what is going to be used in my next video. I am now thinking it was a good choice. Great to hear you wil make use of it. And thank you for your comments.

    Darren, I have been watching your helpful videos for a while now, I have come a long way because of your easy to follow tutorials. I have been working on modelling a Lancaster bomber using 3 blueprints. I am slowly getting there, but I know with your knowledge, you could do so much better than me. Any chance you could show us how you would create this model? I'd understand if you can't because you must be awfully busy.

    You can save a step by drawing the sketch with one line selected from Sketcher, then you'll only need to add the 2nd reference, which will be line 2. But it was good to see the full explanation for a complete understanding.

    I've never noticed 'offset' in the bottom of the 'Create Sketch' window before. I've tried it and it adds to 'Z', e.g. normal to the plane, and sets the attachment to 'Deactivated'.

    It is not clear to me, why @3.06 the center of XY axes is off the top ridge of the block and then @ 5:30 the center of XY has moved to the end of the mapped line whereit meets the end of the top ridge. When the map mode was flat surface, why the center was positioned on the same edge as the edge which was later re-mapped but just little bit off the end of that line/edge. From what I have learned in the school, the plane runs from infinity to infinity in any direction.....so unless you specify the center and the direction of XY axis for the potential sketch the plane doesn't have any center and axes. Same goes for the line. The edge is actually not a line but a line segment and so I would understand the center of the XY axes is at one of the end points...but you did not specify which one and you did not specify XY orientation....So it is obvious, that the system(FC) runs under some sort of assumptions and we need to find, what these assumtions are or at least have a link to where these assumptions are explained! Without that it looks to me very ambiguous.

    I think this topic is very confusing, (good job on the explanation though). I wonder if as a video topic you could create something that would absolutely need these techniques.

    • @MangoJellySolutions
      @MangoJellySolutions  Год назад +1

      Thanks, it is very confusing as there are so many options. So, little story, my next learning freecad video uses it. I create this one after and realised how closely related they were. I was in two minds which one to release first. It was originally to follow on from a previous video regarding LCS and GCS. I am thinking of placing these videos in the learning freecad playlist at the points we're they are needed.

    Is a "scaffolding sketch" a specific thing or just a use convention?

  • @charleshirst6220
    @charleshirst6220 10 месяцев назад

    A QUESTION: In the model tree the hierarchy is unnamed -> sketch. The sketch is then extruded in Part workbench and a second sketch created (the circle). I lost track of what I was trying to do but it wouldn't permit a modification to my circle because it wasn't 'attached to a body'. There are some youtube tutorials where the model tree is unnamed -> body -> sketch, and then I don't get that 'unattached' error message. Why is this tutorial missing the 'body'?
