Dear Conor, this clip is one of several clips making up a lengthy interview. Philip did describe the carnage inflicted by the livestock industry and told Sir David that is the reason why he supports so many animal and environmental projects because he wanted to get "animals off the menu" And Sir David said "I agree".
So Philip didn't let him "off the hook" to use your term. To the contrary.
This was a respectful conversation and the awarding of the Kindness Gold Medal to Sir David was a pleasant time. By speaking politely and clearly about his vegan beliefs, Philip is able to attract people to the vegan lifestream. I am sure that you would be please to know that Sir David has subsequently stopped eating meat? Is it possible that this conversation played some part in his decision?

Although 5 years ago, Philip Wollen let David off the hook in this chat. Morrissey, in 2017, is right in admonishing David Attenborough for calling free life 'wildlife, as if the acceptable norm should be caged animal life and for calling sea life 'seafood'. Why didn't Philip mention to David that he is a Vegan and the reasons he does not eat meat or dairy?
