    After nearly 3 months on this ski, (22/23 season) here are my observations. 1. You can play and throw this ski all over a run, changing up from very tight turns to long. 2. It is a handful when running flat. Think packed catwalks without much room to move. The 13M radius and significant amount of rocker makes them really "swimmy" (even when pushed on with a legit 130 flex boot) They ALWAYS want to be turning. The only solution is to run them slightly on the inside edges or to keep them turning in the fall line. 3. IMO, not for those who can and want to ski a wide variety of terrain and snow types, and only want or can have one pair of sticks. They love groomers, are fun in bumps, and can even handle a little fresh, and a bit of the chunky-swirly. My current quiver is this ski, Nordica Enforcer 100, and a Fischer Ranger 108 which covers pretty much everything my home mountains in Aspen-Snowmass offer. If you're into "playing" on snow no matter where you are, get a pair of Mirus Cors; I can almost guarantee you'll have a hard time getting the grin off yer face.

      How long are you skis, and how does this compare to what you would normally run? I’m trying to figure what would be my ideal length, as all of the lengths turn radius are identical.

    • @bensnyder8156
      @bensnyder8156 Год назад +1

      As an owner of these I couldn’t agree more with everything you said, that being said I got first tracks on over a foot of freshies this morning and they were a blast, the fat tips and tails make it float surprisingly well for an 87 underfoot ski in my opinion

    • @stevenhill2204
      @stevenhill2204 Год назад +3

      @@AndrewGustyn BC suggests skiing them shorter than your average length, but I couldn't disagree more. I have the 184, and if they made a 198, I'd buy it. The rocker tip and tail on these is considerable, making them feel a bit short when they aren't on high edge angles. The 13M radius is far more versatile than you would imagine, making them just as capable of big Super-G type arcs as well as lightning quick short-swing turns.

    Black Crow Mirus Cor 173 is fun ski that you can carve anywhere including in the park. The Line Blade 176 is more stable at high speed but requires more effort to get up on edge with 95mm under foot vs Mirus Cor is 87.5 under foot. Shaggy Carver 88 is another ski with same design with 13.5 m turning radius 88mm under foot.

    Great video! Question about northeast skiing… what do you think is the best width for it? I’ve heard people say anything under 90 works, or that anything over 90 is too much, or that it doesn’t matter haha. I’m looking into buying my first pair of skis are not really sure what width to look at

    • @winteriscalling3063
      @winteriscalling3063 2 года назад +4

      I think that width is only just one factor when selecting a ski for the northeast. i find that if you are looking for a true all mountain option 85-95 tends to be great. Look for the amount of camber to rocker ratio the ski has along with the materials within the ski. A ski that has more torsional stiffness tends to mitigate chatter and helps with grip on our firmer trails

  • @roejogan8247

    Hi - and thanks for very helpful review. How would this work on afternoon conditions in the resort when all the pist´s are a complete mess, or on soft spring snow when there are alot of «natural» bumps in the piste? Does if float well enough for this?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +4

      It does kind of get bounced around because of the softer flex pattern and wide tips and tails. It can handle conditions like that, but it prefers to do it deliberately and at slower speeds rather than with reckless abandon and speed. Does that make sense? Basically comes down to how fast you ski and your skiing style more than anything else.

  • @alexs5394

    looks like a fun ski! I think I might pick one up as a firm snow ski. Did you guys take it off trail? how did you like it in moguls? seems like it would do well with how easily it slides

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад +3

      We took it off trail a little bit, yeah. It's an interesting mogul ski. I think it works really well as slower to moderate speeds in the moguls as it pivots and smears so easily, but it doesn't really have the stiffness to ski fast zipper-lines. Hope that makes sense...

      Love the Stranger! It's way more of a real ski than the Mirus Cor, which i found to be a bit too strange. Even at 6'2 225, I'd ski the Stranger in the 180 any day. Solid, dense wood core and a twin tip shape at 100 mm underfoot is right up my alley.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад

      Vertis is more of an on-trail performer with a directional format while Mirus Cor is something totally different. If you're looking for a unique ski experience--twin tip with a short radius and a swallow tail, then the Mirus Cor is for you, but for more of a traditional ski, the Vertis is a surprisingly capable carver and all-mountain performer, just nothing crazy about it is all. Have fun!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад

      I think 178 would be a nice sweet spot for you for length. This is actually a really, really good ski for someone who likes to make quick carves, and especially for someone who lives and skis out west. It doesn't love super firm, icy conditions, but that's not really a concern for you. I expect you'd love it, but you should be aware of how "different" it is. There's really nothing else out there like it, which makes it super fun and unique, but also somewhat polarizing.

    great review ... many thanks! would you be so kind to help me with two questions since i'm seriously considering picking up a pair of these:
    - i am uncertain what binding to mount on these. right now i am looking either at the marker griffon 13 or the jester 16 as options but i am open for any other suggestion. my size is 185cm and i'm 80kg and what i would consider a decent skier. but i won't be doing anything crazy like big jumps on these. i am just looking for a playfull ski with a very short turn radius which allows me do short turns and go switch without too much effort. so i think the griffon 13 should to the trick for me. or do you have any other suggestions?
    - also being 185cm i'm not too sure what lenght i should get the ski. right now i'm leaning towards the 178cm version but i'm still not completely sure if the 184cm would be the better option. i guess the 184cm should give me a little bit better stability but i'm not sure if there would be a downside to that. i understand from the video that the radius is still the same and the black corws website suggests 184cm as more of an aggressive option. what would you say?
    many thanks for all your help and work

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +2

      Hello!
      Sounds like Griffons would be plenty of binding and is going to keep the weight down. The only other binding I would bring up as a consideration would be the Look Pivot as it has more elastic travel and a shorter drill pattern, so allows the ski to flex more, which is something the Mirus Cor loves to do.
      I think 184 cm is probably the way to go. This ski feels relatively light, is relatively soft flexing, and uses a good amount of tip and tail rocker. In other words, it skis kind of short. I don't think there is much downside to going with the longer length as it still should feel very maneuverable and fun.
      Hope that helps!

  • @chrispavel1
    @chrispavel1 2 года назад +1

    At 6’1” and 240lbs, do I need to be on the 184, or can I get away with the 178, for a more “slalom” feel. The 178 may be too short because of the rocker? My Atris are 189, my Sick Day are 186. Thanks!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      Hey Chris! I think 184 cm would be a safer choice at your size. The tips and tails are so soft that the 178 might feel a little squirrelly, and I doubt the 184 is going to lose the fun/maneuverable factor.

    I am 177 and weigh about 90 kilos. Should I get a 178 or 184. I have a mindbender 108 in 179 and a pair of Salomon blanks in 186. But looking for a more frontside and jibby ski. Also looking at yet another ski in the 90-100 mm for an all mountain alternative. But do you guys believe that the 184 will work or is the 178 enough and maybe more fun for someone that in this ski priorities quick edge to edge and a more fun approach with side hits and alike.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +2

      Hey Eric! Certainly somewhat of a tossup, huh? I'm a similar height and I thought the 178 was a great length for me. On the other hand, you've got about 20 kg on me and the Mirus Cor is a relatively soft-flexing ski. Still, I think I'm leaning more towards 178... I just think considering what you already own, you don't really need to focus on stability in these skis, and rather focus on making them super playful and jibby. That's my 2 cents at least... If I'm wrong and you are looking for some stability, then I'd probably go 184. Hope that helps!

    How do you guys think these do in moguls? I saw a guy this past week skiing them on some big moguls on Outer Limits at Killington. You guys didn’t mention anything about bumps?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад +1

      If you take it into bumps, you need to go slow and make rounder turns. Not the type of ski you'd want to bash down a zipper line as it doesn't have enough stiffness and support in the tips and tails. Good for someone who's going to stick to moderate speeds and turn around the bumps, rather than bash through them. Hope that helps!

    • @colin3934
      @colin3934 3 года назад

      I’ve skied the blades before. These would turn a little bit quicker, and a bit better suited for the east coast. If you’re looking for versatility, the blade is probably a better option.

    • @Mr_Dusty
      @Mr_Dusty 3 года назад

      @@colin3934 Thanks for your info! Do you feel the Blade feels sluggish at all with it's tips being so wide? I know it's a carving ski but it's just so hard to imagine it being quick side to side with 154mm wide tips, thoughts? I like the idea of the Blade, I want a crazier ski to add to the quiver, I'm leaning towards a Blade to shred carves on and on play on the sides of runs, pop off things, just play around and have fun. That's why this Mirus Cor is also intriguing.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 года назад

      It's hard to use the word traditional with either ski, to be honest. If I had to, I do think I'd say the Mirus Cor would be the ski, however. Most of it is coming from the 95 mm waist width in such a short radius and the unique application of metal in the Blade. I actually think the biggest difference between the two might be the speed at which you want to ski. The Blade can rip and has the stability necessary for higher speeds. The Mirus Cor gets a little twitchy at high speeds. I know that's not really answering your question, but certainly something to consider.

      I have had 4 pairs of preachers now, and just come off a demo on these - they are way fast edge to edge as you expect with 87mm V 112mm underfoot. While the Cor will do side piste and some soft powder - but I think it is really a 'front side' ski - not a great ski if you want to ski hard and fast (to soft) - but great for fun and messing about on. I'd use this ski over the preacher if I was just on piste - the preacher is still way more of an all mountain ski. I would add definitely add this to my quiver - but it would not be my only ski.

      I wouldn't argue against a hybrid touring binding, but a true tech binding will not allow you to fully unlock the playful nature of this ski. Yes, yes, and yes, but it has a very unique personality. You can charge on them as they're relatively stiff underfoot, but once you get to higher speeds, the tips and tails don't grip anymore so you're kinda sliding/slashing/smearing at high speeds rather than carving.

    • @SkiEssentials

      At anything above 30, the Mirus Cor can't really carve a clean turn anymore. The short radius combined with the more flexible tips and tails makes it a great carver at more moderate speeds, but above the threshold, it's more about smeary and slashy skidded turns rather than pure carves.
