    This blade style is a hunters point. Some people simply call it a straight back. I have had this knife tested. Yes its D2. I actually prefer this as a tool to the original tops scalpel because it's a bit thinner stock believe it or not. The TOPS is a full .25". It doesnt come very sharp. Do you know how to sharpen? It's a good knife if you do.

    I've ordered a couple of these canku 3 to be exact. And your review is spot on. They look and feel good but I've had to put a better edge on them and do ALOT mods with the sheathes... The fit in the sheathes are crap loose and noisy. One of them the fixed with the "mako" style type blade looks good but falls out of the sheathe yesterday I had to fix that with a heat gun and the scales have some sharp edges on them. If your NOT worried bout "name brand" and your willing to do some fixing and small mods for $20--$40 knives their ok. I like them cause I have a tendency to NOT even use or carry my "expensive" blades $150 ⬆️ they literally don't leave the house for ANY reason lol.. so I feel like I get more use/carry use out of these. Or I will have a "real" one I the collection then a "knockoff" that I will actually carry and put light-med use on them.. lol anyway good review man! 👍

    I mean you do you, but why would you judge a knife's blade geometry simply because it wasn't extremely sharp from the factory? Spend 10 minutes sharpening & stropping then see what it can do. Also a jewelers loupe is handy for looking at the edge you may see why it cuts poorly. Thanks for the review.

    • @Tctbnl

      It’s a bit disgusting when you pay for a blade and it arrives duller than a butter knife. People like to see “out of the box” reviews. So that’s what I try to give them. Thanks for watching

    Just sharpen it. The problem with “self defense” knives is they raise the price like crazy. In a fight the bad guy isnt gonna say “ that didnt hurt, your knife didnt cost enough” im all for supporting brands, but if the dont wanna get ripped off then the should price realistically.

    Thus guy is angry because he has spent too much on MADE IN USA blades and brands like this and EAFENGROW etc are beating TOPS , ESEE , BENCHMADE etc at their own game. Hes a snob , and a shill for KNIFE HQ who apparently doesnt even know how to sharpen a blade , In
    My backpacking/ hiking group / club of 42 people ge EAFENGROW 121 is the # 1 choice and is clipped on nearly every pack strap in the group and is abused all year still comes back for more
    My Godson is a Marine, and carries an EAFENGROW 128, after his Kabar edge kept rolling and chipping.. And a canku stinger in the field in Jordan. I will take that endorsement over this guy any day.

      just because it came dull doesn't make it a crappy knife. Sharpen it, then use it. I don't understand how you can judge how good a knife is by if it cam sharp or not, unless of course you can't sharpen your blades.

      @@PrepperDel You can't do an "out of the box review" if you don't actually use the knife. This is called an unboxing. And without using the knife he decided it was crap. Mostly because i think he has a heavy bias against china. I get americans like american made, but doing a fake review to prove that makes the person doing it look fake.

      Overall yes, this was the first one I got from them that I was less than impressed with the sharpness

  • @randyyeager
    @randyyeager 3 года назад +4

    why not just sharpen it? I mean wtf does it matter if it's sharp out of the box if it can be sharpened? likely only needs a stropping. If ya want me to subscribe, it'd likely help if you didn't go into a knife review already bias against a blade. strop it or sharpen it if it isn't sharp and then review it. wtf does out of the box tell you? Not much. I've got some american made knives that the fit and finish wasn't perfect. Knife still worked, didn't hurt my hand using it and I just sharpen a blade if it comes dull, though I haven't had one come dull and i buy a lot of Chinese knives. bought a few cheap ones from places like Walmart and a dollar store in Canada, and they have come dull...but for $4 CAD or less, it didn't bother me. Wouldn't bother me on a $50 knife either, as i can sharpen them. If you're going to review a blade, give it a fair shake.

      This was how I felt Randy. I mean what do you expect you paid like $30 or less for it. You have to go into the review with an open mind. Not automatically thinking this thing is not as good as $100 blade. I agree it sucks that it's a clone but some people can't afford to pay $100 to $300 for a knife. I can save some money and sharpen it myself.
      With that said I'm still glad to see the review. You described it well and it allowed me to make a proper decision I just had to not listen to your opinion.

      I have both the real and the clone. I use oil stones to sharpen, and they are both really cool and capable knives, but the knock off actually has better cutting geometry and holds an edge longer. The TOPS is just awesome looking and I love their linen micarta. Also 1095 gets screaming sharp and is much tougher. Glad to have them both honestly.
