When paired with a rangefinder, the VSS is actually incredible at long range. Even sp5 has enough damage to kill very geared players in a couple of hits. Very fun gun to run on woods or lighthouse.
We're getting working ir lights and lasers in the upcoming update. I hope we also get a working subsonic ammo mechanic soon too. I don't like the current meta to use best pen, hypersonic ammunitions with a silencer.

@@pipemong You're quite right, but the bigger problem is still some armours essentially negating damage from lower end bullets (in my opinion at least), even though irl armour plates are mostly there to protect your vitals, not entire body parts. That being said, there are examples of armour with greater coverage, but they're heavy as all hell if they've even only decent protection against rifle calibers, not to mention against purpose built armour-piercing rounds.
Your streamer item should be an access card that opens a room in labs with a bunch of documentarian stuff. And maybe a signed photo of David Attenborough on the desk. The name on the card is just “V.G.”

Long term VSS sniper here. There was a really big nerf to the weapons accuracy that shrank my effective range from 450 meters down to sub 250m. I've got plenty of long range clips ( over 200m) if you'd ever want some examples of "Apex predator sub sonic user" lol . Including a 560m ash12 kill.
@@comradesillyotter1537 as another vss main I can tell you, rangefinding is more than just recommended, it’s necessary since the low velocity means high drop. I would suggest using the PSO 1M2-1 because of its short range rangefinder built into the sight, if you need a x1 sight mount it with the combo mount and a side canter to the front of the gun. Also I’ve rebound my range up and down keys to the side mouse buttons for quick adjustments. Otherwise the leading is just practice, go out into some offline raid, check distance, shoot, and count until you see the smoke from the impact to know how much you should be leading at what ranges Edit: also remove the key binding where double tapping R drops the magazine, nothing more annoying than panic spamming R in a gunfight and accidentally leaving behind your 20k-40k magazine. It’s not even that much faster anyways
The accuracy of the VSS wasn't nerfed. I still snipe with it, and its actually easier this patch than previous. Just make sure you're not using low durability guns.

You need to go out and experiment with the ammo you intend to use because of how tarkovs zeroing works, each round will impact differently (Sp-5 is the default for the VSS and val) Look into "slope angle shooting" because its relevent to any shot you take where you're dealing with more than a 15 degree incline / decline in elevation of your target. Practice , practice, practice. And most of all, keep good records. Learn how to make an effective "Dope card" or "data card" for your rifle. Consistency is key. The laser range finder and reticle range finders in tarkov lie ( they both show line of sight, not actual horizontal range, See more in slope shooting) My key binds for zeroing are ALT+W and ALT+S because I don't use blindfire ever. Long range shooting, or even just sub 150m shooting with the vss is rough if you've never sat down and really learned how to snipe.

I have proof the VSS did get nerfed. the old system had it clocked at 0.01 degree accuracy , 1 MOA is 0.016 degrees meaning the rifle was sub moa compared to the new system at ~3.2 moa Radius which now prints a group that is about 7.4" per 100m. Does make me wonder, does subsonic ammo vs non-subsonic ammo make a audible difference in tarkov? IRL of course it does, but in the wacky world of tarkov does it, and if so how substantial? Edit: Also a Elite level covert Subsonic user is the most horrifying thing of all though.
The only difference made now is the range at which people hear you from. Subsonic rounds in Tarkov reduce the range from which your shots are heard from just like suppressors do. Other than that though, there's no noticeable difference. This will probably change in the future, as Nikita has stated before that he wants to work on bullets more.

man ive been using US bullets on AKMs and im having the time of my life. Yea sure i dont kill geared people very fast, but landing so much bullets on someone and then watching him drop like a sack of potatoes on the floor makes my soul ascend
I've been running a ton more high damage low pen rounds like these examples this wipe. It's been a ton of fun! and nothing is like the feeling of striking terror into the hearts of chads when you take out their knees on the way to the extract with 5.45 SP or 5.56 HP before they can extracat wtih all that delicious gear!
back when i started tarkov (a year or two ago) I tried to use subsonic ammo in a night raid. not sure if they did anything or if it was the suppressor. ended up somehow killing 2 pmcs but getting killed by a scav who somehow say me in the night
With the recent changes the leopards have become more formidable turning them into tigers.. still relatively stealthy but with the recent recoil reductions they are able to use higher tier ammo at lower lvls making them very ferocious
A little late with this, but if you mount the laser rangefinder on the right of the VSS barrel mount, you can see the distance reading while looking down the PSO scope

The best part about subsonic ammo, Elite Covert Movement. You can practically shoot right beside someone and they won't hear it because of how the skill reduces Noises produced by weapons and equipment are quieter (+60% at elite level). A VSS/AS-VAL which is already very quiet, with a -60% loudness, becomes like a *PIP* to other players. Beware the covert Subbies, they're why I am afraid of dark corners.
Hmm I literally never batted an eye to these rounds because of low pen but seeing as you clapped all those people and that’s how I normally play, maybe i’d benefit with the the less recoil and be able to spray some people down or easily get hella shots in before they notice me
I am this player, I play mostly night and play solo. I attack and move quickly if I don't kill my opponent(s) I re-position. I maintain a 70+ SR as a solo I used to consider myself a honeybadger, now i'm a leopard lol

It's already in place, partially. They have the foundation for it put it atleast.
I think that when the armor update comes and armor only protects the places that there are actual plates that lots more ammo will become viable.

Us ASh-12 specimens are rare, but we exist as well! All our shots (except a few that are not in the game) are subsonic.
I've been using subsonic ammo this wipe with great success, especially with the mp7 and the akm
