I was so lucky to go to a secret concert by these two musicians at Ivy (Furusato family's Cafe) in June 2024. Their concert featured Yoyoka's family band and Ai's family band, and I enjoyed their performance so much!! (Ai's mom and dad are jazz and rock vocalists) no doubt the two geniuses have developed their musicality partly by playing with their families. Or I might have witnessed two sets of genes for great musical talent

Thanks Wave for supporting Yoyoka, and thanks for your comments.

We all know Yoyoka but Ai is amazing as well. Be sure to subscribe to both of their channels if you have not done so yet.

Thought the same thing, they are playing music that is so much beyond their age.

Playing it is one thing. What's more astonishing is that they composed it.

This is a fervent wish granted for fans of this duo! About 6 months ago Yoyoka was asked if a collaboration with Ai was in the works. She was pretty cagey about her answer then. And now we get thos wish granted just ahead of her birthday concert in October! Thrilling tune! Long may they play!

Great job Wave! I love that each time you watch YOYOKA you're more amazed than the last time, as you should be! If you watch her once a month, you would think that each time you watch her, she has improved a year's worth. It's that noticeable. To be fair, I only give you a hard time when you say she's "Good for her age", because we all know she's just good (awesome) "regardless" of her age, but I don't mind getting called out...lol. Referencing her age and comparing her to someone "that has been doing this for 50 years" is spot on. I've taught you well grasshopper. When these two look at each other you can tell they are looking deep into the soul of the other, and it shows in their play.

So glad you got to review this one, everything you said about it is sooooo true lol. As for Yoyoka pushing her skills since she came to the States, I'd say that's the very reason she wanted to come here. Now she's mixing and mingling with some of the biggest and best professional musicians, including the very ones she was covering when she was back home in Japan.
She's also gigging regularly with those great artists, both famous and lesser-known, and there's nothing like regular gigging with the best to push you to your limits. Speaking of, I hope you'll get to hear her new one with Narada Michael Walden, which I haven't heard, but no doubt will be an absolute killer tune lol.

Thanks, Ai is another prodigy (as is Yoyoka). Glad to hear that she's going to Berklee but she probably won't be there for long. Yoyoka has been working with a jazz fusion group for a couple of years now and played drums on three of their recent albums (Ken Okada Group), she just posted a one hour video of her playing with Ken at the "Baked Potato" club in Santa Monica - on her member-only YT channel.

Everybody comments on Yoyoka - also in the comment section of the original video - but in my opinion Furusato's work is much more impressive - especially as she probably is the main composer of this tune.

What a solid fusion composition. Piano reminds me a lot of Lyle Mays.

Somewhere up there, Oscar Peterson and Buddy Rich are smiling down on Ai and Yoyoka. If you were just listening and not watching the video, you would think it was two veteran jazz musicians who were performing. While I am not a HUGE jazz fan, I enjoy it enough to see how special these two young artists are. I've been following Yoyoka since was 7 years old or so and this is the first time I've seen Ai play, and she is just majestic. And when you add these two wunderkinds together, it is just indescribable. Kids rock for kids should get together with Ai and cover something that would make great use of her piano talents.
In watching that ending, Yoyoka looked more like Buddy Rich than I've ever seen before. And it is just seems so effortless for her. I think the move to the US has paid fantastic dividends, with Yoyoka being able to play with so many different groups of people in honing her skills.
And what can you say about Ai ? At 12 she is a veteran who can pretty much match anyone at present. I'd like to see her play alongside Yuko Suzuhana and Marie Takeda of The Jazz Avengers, they would weave some beautiful music. I wish her all the success in the world. when she comes here for school. She is already a superstar.
And that's just their musicianship, their composing and arranging skills seem off the charts.

I thought the thumbnail was a bit of hype, but after listening I’m flabbergasted. I still don’t understand how anyone can play Jazz piano, but a child?! And Yoyoka’s progress is clearly evident, even to me. She, and we, are lucky that her family is so supportive of her prodigious talent.

Both Ai and Yoyoka have been exposed to western music at early age having musicians as their parents and access to all music.
That doesnt really explain why they are so prodigious...

As Kanade takes a breather from jazz for a while, Yoyoka seems to be heading in the jazz direction. She needs to pal up with some jazz legends such as Billy Cobham and Trilok Gurtu before they pass away

Well she started off in afroamerican pop/rock (which makes her quite unique among asian drummers) - so the only direction to expand is towards other genres.

What is playing in the headphones? Each other, because they are doing a duet from different locations?

    • @magnushallin3640
      @magnushallin3640 11 дней назад +1

They are at the same location - but in different soundproofed rooms. They see each other through a soundproofed window.
When you make a recording it is crucial to hear the other instruments. But that sound can not be played in loudspeakers because the sound would interfere and mess up the sound that is being recorded by the microphones in the studio. For the same reason you want to separate the different instruments and record them in different rooms so that they don't "bleed" into the wrong microphones.
The goal is to record one instrument per channel - and only that instrument. This makes the setting of levels and blending the channels together in the final mix easier and produces the best audio quality

Thank you for the reaction, I was wondering why there are so few reactions to this amazing collaboration. AI's father runs a jazz bar so I guess she's grown up with this music. Her skills are out of the world for that age. Not only playing fast but also playing very complex jazz harmonies and improvising, and it sounds beautiful! Maybe not your cup of tea but check this song out, it's her own arrangement of a famous jazz tune, advanced but at the same time so beautiful. ruclips.net/video/uaqc1Hp2ZlQ/видео.html
