There’s an outdoor pool in Shap as you go past the Lake District on the M6. It’s absolutely insane; it’s 2000 feet above sea level & is almost always covered in snow. It’s like the coldest fucking place in England….. but they built an outdoor pool
When I was 11 my parents gave me an empty shoe box and told me it was an Action Man deserter. This was better than the previous year when they gave ne a Yo (no strings attached). The year before that they gave me 2 batteries with a note attached that read " toy not included"
This was a great episode all around, all stories were amazing. Lilly Allen's raindeer story, Noddy Holder's christmas party story is one of the best of all times.
Great reaction! This Christmas episode was especially good. Please, consider reacting to more bits from this Xmas episode! Noddy Holder's donkey story is good, too, but Lily Allen's reindeer story is hilarious! Have fun watching & reacting!🎄🎅

A great Christmas episode this. The older gentleman is Noddy Holder who is Xmas icon over here as he is singer of one of the most popular Xmas songs with his band Slade.
James had (and still have) a genuine music interest, he has a pretty vast collection of -90's albums which in his opinion is the greatest music era. And as many have mentioned before, northern Europe are mostly indoor pools.
After seeing the twitter thread of a biologist who tested public pools about ten years ago, I’ll never ever even walk past a public swimming pool again let alone swim in one. Safer to drink from a puddle.
If you like James Acaster, You should try "James Acaster's Best Taskmaster Moments" . Also if you Bob Mortimer try "Bob Mortimer's Best Taskmaster Moments" .
Good Reaction Guys. 99% of UK Pools are Indoor, No need to even begin to defend any Dad giving that Album priority to his Sister as the alternative is ridiculous particularly when both kids return to school after Christmas and reveal who got the Album. Neither kid (especially James) would ever hear the end of it. FUN FACT: "Noddy" sitting next to David wrote the all-time best-selling UK Xmas single and earns $500,000 each year from Royalties from it. "Merry Xmas Everybody"..
When I moved to this house in Outer London in 1983 there was one ,in the park, which was 80 yards away but they closed it that same year. All the kids, apparently, came from miles away.
There are 2 outdoor pools close to me in SW London. One is summer only but also has a regular indoor pool for all year use. The other one is open all year and popular with nutters xmas morning.
@triptwo425 There's quite a few up north as well. There are pools in Hathersage, Ilkley, Ingleton, Skegness, Scarborough, and Hull, and one due to be restored and reopened in the North of Leeds as well, for that matter. They were on about building one near me as part of a health club as well, and quite a few of the posh houses on the south west of the city have outdoor pools. I knew someone in East Ardsley who had fairly large swimming pool in their garden and a sauna inside the pump house.
The trick to this game is to wrap up the truth in as much exaggerated and/or entirely made up nonsense as possible, so that it's just too ridiculous to believe. Or if you're lying, do exactly the same thing but try to make them suspect that's what you're doing, so they think it's so ridiculous that it must be true.
No spoilers but Lee and David are definitely "playing the game" sometimes as years ago,I worked out,in certain situations, that occurred, occasionally, whether someone was telling the truth and in that particular scenario(that occurs every 2nd or 3rd programme) then ,even,I have a 100% record so they must know,as well and yet ,sometimes, get it wrong:)
American dad's might be weird about that stuff, but a British dad wouldn't find it odd for a boy to want an album by women. There's a lot less misogyny over here.
James just wasn't smart enough to play the situation to his own advantage. I remember when I was a young kid in the early 70s and my mum said that me and my younger sister could pick a single, this would be the first records we'd ever owned. I wanted Life on Mars by David Bowie, but so did my sister. Her alternative choice if she didn't get Bowie was some piece of crap from David Cassidy. My alternative was a single by Slade. So I let her get the Bowie single and I picked Slade. That we we ended up with my top 2 picks, rather than my top pick and a piece of crap.
If i had asked for that album, my brother would have taked the piss and would have still been taking the piss now, being young he may have punched me. I was too much of a Indy girl to shame myself for the Spice Girls, too busy lisoning to the Smiths, to go swiming.
James Acaster was on The Ricky Gervais podcast on Sirius, he tells the funniest story of a car crash. If i can find the cllip i will post it. Really worth a listen. Yeah his standup is a bit meh.
I’ve just paused I think it’s false what boy wants to go back to school and tell his mates he got the Spice Girls album. I was sure that was a lie, but I’m wrong. So he had no street cred at school
Are you kidding?? “Is it cold in England at Christmas,” “I know seasons change around the world,” No they don’t, they change from the northern hemisphere to southern hemisphere. You must be aware that England is in the northern hemisphere, aren’t you? After all, you did travel to Britain in 2023. As a teacher, what exactly is it that you teach, based on observation I have managed to eliminate, English, history, geography and science.
I was a fan of James Acaster but not since he failed to support Ricky Gervais when he was being open and honest and treating all members of society in the same way. He chose to join the cancel culture so I have personally cancelled him.
99% of our swimming pools are indoors.
So is that 99 out of every 100 pools, or that half a meter of each pool is outdoors? 😁
@@renejean2523 they have a small balcony

As I live in Lancaster I know the area well.
More worried about the coincidence now.
I once went in an outside pool in Wales.
I think that sums up the entire experience!

Yeah it’s really good one of the funniest they’ve done
This was one of the classic episodes, in my opinion. So funny from beginning to end. And don't forget David's tablet/wasp story.
James Acaster (pronounced 'Ay-caster'), has such a quirky style of humour with a great dead pan delivery. Love it.

He has more than a "genuine music interest". He's had multiple bands, and I'd wager he'd give up comedy today to be a moderately successful musician.

I watched WITLY last night ( on BBC1 ) it never fails to make me laugh - It's a great show.
Jodi... outdoor pool... in the UK... in December? Have a word. Thanks for uploading, guys.
9:21 - 9:44: I'm guessing that it was an indoor pool. Because in December here, most outdoor pools would have a solid surface
Outdoor pools would be pretty useless in England most of the time.
Yes. It's not a place for outdoor swimming, that's for sure.
I understand but last year in The South,we had 2 successive months without rain.

Public indoor heated swimming pools are common in the UK, often run by the local government.
In the case of my sister and me it was the Grease Album
Indoor pools like that are eighter full or half olympic size. At least here in Norway. Often own by the city.
