      My apologies for the delayed response. I hope you are doing well. It is good to see you in the comments. Thank you very much. I appreciate the nice words. There really isn't much of reason to upgrade. The previous Echo Show 8s are great. If you aren't looking for a sound upgrade of the smart home hubs, not much reason.

    Great video as always, Craig! I’m sorry didn’t watch it last week and I’m sorry that it didn’t get the numbers you were expecting. I can see a future for the echo hub as a Walmart device when matter and the controller features become more standardized across the different platforms.I’m more of an apple guy right now so I can’t imagine getting one, if it was $99 I might give it a second look though.

    UGH! In the last couple years Echo Show devices have just become Amazon billboards for obnoxious ads. There's no longer any way to disable those ads. DO NOT buy these, Amazon should pay you monthly to own these.

      It is so annoying. There are flat out ads now. You look something up or something you bought before is on sale and you get a screen for it. I got an offer for car detailing supplies on sale. I am thinking of getting rid of most Echo shows, but they are currently clocks. Thanks for watching.

    I wanted the Hub and hubby got me the echo show 15 for Christmas. I sent it back and figured I would wait for the Hub. Then saw a great deal on the Echo Show 8 so picked it up and it is in my kitchen. Now I really want the Hub too LOL. I do have a question...are you using Ring cameras? We have Blink cameras and not really happy with connectivity and I can't figure out how to get continual live feed to show up on my Show 8 or if it is even possible????

      Hello, I am sorry about the delayed response. I am glad to hear you got the Echo show 8 instead. I think that is the best balance of price to features. I do use Ring Cameras and Alarm. With the Echo Hub you can have it continuously show a camera. Unfortunately they time out and go back to the home screen on the Echo Show 8. As for connectivity they have been great. I have 5 stickup cams and the Ring Video Doorbell Pro. Thanks for watching.

    Just watched a bit more of the video and it looks like the Hub has a lack of ads... for now. They already violated my trust, though. You can be sure they are luring you into paying double for something with worse sound because it currently has no to little ads. They will just turn a bunch of ads on with a firmware update, which is why I don't want to buy any more of these devices until I absolutely need to.

    • @CraigsTechTalk

      Not at all. It is the cloud delay with pretty much all cameras and echo shows.

  • @Allgood73
    @Allgood73 Месяц назад +1

    This should be a software update which allows for existing hardware to switch between a media focus versus a smart home focus. Instead they charge more for less (no speaker) and for the exact same hardware. Amazon is frustrating customers with this kind of thing and with the ads and auto-adding skills which were never installed by the owners.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  Месяц назад

      I am with you. I hate that they are piecing out software across the different echo shows. None of the different sized echo show screens look a like now. Something is different with the software on each.

    I changed to a habitat hub to remove my smart home manufacturers cloud delay. What I want to know is will the Echo hub remove my smart home cloud reliance? Reason is I am sick of giving a voice smart home command and depending on time of day depends on how much delay there is as sometimes it would be quicker to just walk over and do it manually which makes all the money spent wasted. Any help would be most appreciated.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  Месяц назад

      That makes sense to switch to habitat. The Echo hub is smart home cloud reliant. The most recent Echo Show 8 handles more offline control. It is so annoying that everything talks through the cloud. That is one of the benefits of Apple Home or going local like you are with another option.

    If your Echo Hub is in a dim room the clock won't display. I couldn't figure it out for about a week and then I realized if I let just a little more natural light into the room the clock screen would display.

      i wonder if you might have a hidden command like "Alexa, turn on the screen". There is a hidden command for Shows which is "Alexa, turn off the screen" which makes it go black. Handy for sleeping. When getting into bed with one's partner, one can whisper it. It can also be put into a routine, as a written voice command. This trick allows you to execute the command verbally by running a routine with the command in it. It allows the command to be run from any echo in the house, which otherwise can't done by speaking to another device. Saying "Alexa, turn off screen on Bedroom Show" on a different device won't work. The Routine can be simply named, like "Alexa, Goodnight" or " Alexa, off" which can be put on a schedule, turn off other things at bedtime, executed from outside the bedroom, or triggered by a motion detector etc. Multiple copies of the routine i.e.; "Screen off 12AM", "Screen off 3AM", "Screen off 6AM", could be set to run on a schedule to assure the screen stays off.

    I thought Amazon was going to provide a paid option for no ads but I still haven't seen it available. At this point I'd consider it because I'm tired of all the "sponsored" home cards. I've turned off everything else possible through the device and my Amazon account itself. Still, those ads persist.

      Our Echo Show 8 sits quietly in the kitchen and is used by my wife as a timer.
