    I don't mean to undermine this video- as this is a perfect explanation, but if anyone was curious of how to achieve the same effects - but with varied outcomes, I have a written explanation below :)
    ----
    Here to help.
    Toner is meant to be used if you have yellow tones in your hair. If you want yellow tones, no toner necessary. The purple in Wella T18, usually offers a purple hue, which neutralizes yellow/ brassy tones( as she stated in the video! :) ). On orange it kind of goes a little " green " which is unpleasant. It makes the hair go muddy. On yellow it goes more purple. What you need to be sure to do, is bleach carefully, I've suggested this before, but if you bleach for a while, using 20 vol cream developer, and the appropriate portion bleach powder, you can leave it on for hours and still get as much pull as a 30, or 40 volume, with less pain, and less damage. Just gotta be patient.
    That said, Usually, you would wait to tone. Toning in the same day is not for the weak of heart, or scalp in this matter. If you have a sensitive scalp, toning after bleaching all day, could actually give you a headache or cause scalp burns. It's best to wait a couple days- so be sure to bleach until a point where you can live with it, plus it's actually better for your hair overall.
    Once you've given your hair the time to heal ( in those couple days, I would suggest using a keratin enriched conditioner, and non-sulfate shampoo, as well as a leave in conditioner. Depending on your scalp type and hair condition, I would also say that a gentle rub of coconut oil across the scalp, over those two days, would also be good. ) - Now that you've left it and treated your hair to a nice vaca from bleaching, hit your hair up ( if you want a light silver/platinum " look, that is as close to white as possible, use the T18, the LONGER you leave the T18 in, the MORE likely your hair will STAY purple. So be CAREFUL. The only plus side to that, is that the purple, if washed " frequently " - will fade and leave more white/greyish silver. T18, plus 20 or even 10 developer will deposit your color, 20 again will actually PULL color, while depositing, while 10 developer is usually just deposit.
    If you would like to maintain your " fashion hair color " - with the purple intact, use non-sulfate conditioners, in unison with dry hair shampoos. Treat the hair to some deep conditioning leave in stuff- that is non-sulfate. Non-sulfate is key to saving the unnatural color/toning. Same goes if you wanted to dye your hair pink.
    SORRY that this was a NOVEL. I just thought that a thorough explanation would be the best.

      Kilian Listens you shouldn’t be leaving bleach on “for hours” like you said. It could turn the hair to complete mush. Bleach (even with 10 vol) should not be left on the hair for more than 45 minutes to an hour max! A lower volume doesn’t mean less damage, it just means it will take longer to damage the hair.

      Kilian Listens one year later and I’m thanking you for your input because I’m about to lighten my own hair for the first time myself and was actually wondering if I needed to use the toner ....after reading your response I realized I don’t have to so thank you so much for your input!! ❤️❤️❤️

    Tip: never bleach your hair if you have a relaxer or anything of the sort in your hair!
    Also if you don’t want the color so blunt all you do is bleach the first few layers but keep at least one or two layers that’s near the color you aren’t bleaching alone for 5-10 or even 15 minuets it just depends on how your hair take on the bleach and the heat that’s going onto it. It will go from the blonde to a darker shade and then finally to the untouched hair color,
    You could also just leave out a layer or two, how ever thick you want the transition color and you just tease down that layer and put bleach onto the layer (not the teased part that should be close to your scalp) and then wash it out when you see the preferred color then boom.

      KookiMonster there's no safe way to do anything to your hair. Hair sheds, hair gets damage from low manipulation, high manipulation. it's just hair. bleach it and enjoy it. what's the point of having hair If you carefully handle it when it's gonna break off anyway....nothing is safe when it comes to hair😂 ....natural two years.. two big chops and hella dye...hair is extremely healthy

    Girl for doing this on your lonesome, you did a fucking spectacular job. I have a lot of hair to deal with as a white boy, so I struggle with seeing and having good light- so I never bleach alone for fear of patchiness. I came looking this way because hair styling is something I want to do for a living, and I had wondered if there was a particular product necessary for doing hair that needs more keratin? My ex-girlfriend was black and I had always wondered because she used a lot of keratin supplements on her hair to keep it from breaking. Wondered if it's similar for you, since you said you do the pull test?
    Pleasantly happy to know that it's literally the same process, but was wondering if you had any experience with olaplex. Also, have you tried using a 20 vol with bleaching powder, and like.. leaving it on for hours, because I hear that it still pulls color but does " less " damage.. Sorry for hitting you up with a long comment.

    • @JNicoleCustom
      @JNicoleCustom  7 лет назад +1

      You're fine. I've never used Olaplex but I've used all volumes. It's your preference and it depends on what color you're trying to achieve. I'd use a 20vol if I was to put an actual color on top, if not I'd like to use something like a 40vol to lift my hair and or the clients. Alsssssoooooo, because hair is so different you may not have to use anything but a 10vol if someone wanted to lift their hair (white or black) depending on what level their natural hair color is at. It's hard to really tell because you factor in a few things.. (as you know). You're fine lol I'm open to hairtalkkkkkk.Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback.

    The parting wasnt what made the color blunt, the way you applied the bleach is what made it blunt. If you paint the bleach on holding the brush vertically while alternating the distance between the already colored hair and the roots, the color wont go on blunt regardless of how you part the hair.

    • @JNicoleCustom
      @JNicoleCustom  8 лет назад +1

      +Destinie +Destinie oh okay! Thanks. The parting in my opinion would've made all the difference because I have shorter hair, I've done this previously and didn't have this problem (applied the same way and all) .. But to each is own. Lol. Just my opinion on it.

    • @coveholdenmehostage3287
      @coveholdenmehostage3287 8 лет назад +1

      Well, bleach actually can burn you if you have a sensitive scalp, because the bleach creates heat which is from the chemical reaction. So if it does feel really hot/ burn you shouldn't panic unless it's unbearable, then take it out. A hack for easing the burning is adding sugar into the bleach before you add it into your hair.

    Omg I love your hair!!! Ok so I have 1 question lol my natural hair is dark brown & I wanna dye one part of my hair platinum/bleach blonde so after I dye it do I still use a toner or do you only use a toner if your hair is already blonde & you're re-dying it?

    • @nilkadabest5851
      @nilkadabest5851 8 лет назад +9

      always use a toner after bleaching especially if u want the platinum blonde as the hair after bleaching will have orange tones..I also soak my hair coconut oil to prevent less breakage i apply 100% coconut oil drenching my hair I go to bed with a bag over my head and when I'm ready I start bleaching with my "coconut" hair don't rinse the oil out.. the oil also prevents the bleach from over processing ....hope this helps as u see from my pic I love bleaching and dying my hair

    • @JNicoleCustom
      @JNicoleCustom  8 лет назад +3

      +LeeyaLeilani thank you boo!! If you're using a dye you can apply the toner to the dye. It all depends on the color you're going for.. it may be a little difficult to get the exact color you want because it'll be a box dye! Using toners help though (look into Wella toners). You use a toner anytime to brighten what you've colored and to strip any darker or brassy strands you may have once you color it. Did I answer your question? 👀🤔

    • @itmekilian6471
      @itmekilian6471 7 лет назад +4

      Here to help.
      Toner is meant to be used if you have yellow tones in your hair. If you want yellow tones, no toner necessary. The purple in Wella T18, usually offers a purple hue, which neutralizes yellow/ brassy tones.

    This is a great video! If I have really long hair would i need to buy more bleach? And I also want to bleach it so I can dye it bright red.. How long should I wait after I bleach it to dye it red?

    • @JNicoleCustom
      @JNicoleCustom  8 лет назад

      +maya daley thanks boo!! Yes! I'd do 2 bleaching packets per section! If I decide to put Color on top use a rinse (temporary color) it doesn't have any chemicals that can damage your hair or react to the bleach. Dye can damage because it usually has ammonia & you don't want that. A rinse would be perfectly fine!

    • @JNicoleCustom
      @JNicoleCustom  8 лет назад

      +Mary W don't bleach and relax. Don't dye and relax. You wanna bleach and put a temporary color (rinse) on your hair. If you just want to dye your hair a brown, sure you can do that and it wouldn't damage the hair. You'd have to wait 2-3 weeks to relax it.

      Toner is to take out any brassy color (after I 1st processed it, you seen it was a pinky-orange color due to previous color I had) and also neutralize the lightener after allowing it to set into my hair (at the end, when I showed how it looked after 2 days, vs the night of processing it!) ☺️

      No! I’d use 2 packs to be safe if we have similar hair types (that middle gets thick lol). It’ll be a little patchy, it’s best to have more than not enough when messing with lightener. You don’t want patchy spots 😩
