    I've been working on my voice acting for a while now, but haven't managed to get anywhere with it professionally. I've decided to give Fiverr a try and just put out my first gig. It definitely needs work, but having this as a start is still better than nothing.

    I'm truly fortunate to find this video. I'm also at a point in my life where I don't want to do jobs I don't like and work with people I don't get along with. I'm looking to get into voice acting as I've been told I have a good voice and lots of energy. I know it takes more than that to be successful, but I'm willing to get the training to do it. Seeing this video has been extremely helpful.

    As someone who's new to Fiverr and on a VERY tight budget, I think my Note 9 honestly has exceptional recording. I've been playing around doing voices of my characters and existing characters that sound pretty good.
    I live in an apartment so I have to record in my car at 12 AM or later in the morning. It's the best time to do so and soooo much fun to go back and listen to and be like "Holy crap, I can actually do that voice!" 😂
    I keep forgetting that my own normal voice someone else might like to use not just cartoon voices so I'm super excited to begin this journey. 💜💜💜

    I know this video is a little old but I just came across it now because I'm trying to break into the voiceover business. I've taken a course, bought my equipment and practiced recording and editing but I haven't fully completed any of my profiles on sites like ACX, Fiverr, Upwork, and Voices. My issue is that I am so intimidated by how good everyone else is. I don't really know how to create as professional of a demo reel as other people have. In all my research, I have never heard of a "gig video" so that's something else I'm going to need to look into. I will definitely have to check out your other videos about this topic. I like that you are very clear and to the point. Thank you for this video!

    Some feedback: I'm a musician, and I find music backgrounds in what I expect to be an instructional video to be extremely annoying. I find it difficult *not* to listen to music (even music I don't like), and that, in turn, makes speech harder to follow.

    • @AHazyNebula
      @AHazyNebula 4 года назад +4

      You're a musician, you are attracted to the music more than voice. It's natural. I'm a voice actor, I barely heard the music. I naturally focus on the voice. I rewatched the video 2 more times. Now I can see where you're coming from, it could've been lowered a little bit more.

    • @FaulksDigital
      @FaulksDigital  4 года назад +6

      I completely agree, it's like annoying music in lifts. Why do people do this? It's OK on promos and ads, it enhances the mood, but for the training videos, cut the music is far better and more effective for learning.

    The Rodecaster Pro is what I use for my podcast. We’ve had some sound issues, however, anybody who has listened to the show has told me I have a perfect voice for this endeavor. The show is off the cuff, non-scripted and me being me. I’m running Sterling SMK150SP condenser mics. I use a canon t7 camera and built a studio in my home. The space has a decent sound but I need to do something else to improve. I feel my voice is too deep, too baritone, but people compliment it. It’s odd to get compliments as I’ve always been the “quiet guy” in a room. It was difficult to begin doing this, but I did. I’m comfortable on the mic now, and would like to start doing voice over work. Perhaps give me a listen and some advice if you have time or the inclination. I enjoyed your video. Thank you.

    Amazing video, but one thing I'd definitely change is your "lowest" price for condenser microphones. The Lewitt LTC 440 Pure is only $269 and it absolutely crushes many of the 400-600$ microphones I've heard. This is just one company of a handful that really makes nice condenser microphones for around 150-300$.
    TL;DR . . . You don't need 400$ for a "low" end condenser microphone.

      Hi, so basically explained in the video. Started making a demo using practice scripts. Made a gig video and a gig on Fiverr. Started selling with just those. I personally did no further marketing but for someone very serious about taking VO to the next level, you could also join more VO networks/job boards (voices.com) and join more freelancing sites like Upwork. I would also make your own website to host your reels, advertise your prices and make content for social media.

      SM57 is a dynamic mic it requires more gain to pick up the nuances of the voice. Condensor mics do this much better, they sound better at the source for voice over (in general). An SM57 requires more processing.

      It will do the job just fine. The biggest factor is the space you record in. Make sure you have some form of acoustic treatment/use a closet if you have to, make sure there is no background noise. These things will give you bigger results than worrying about microphones :)

      I prefer the sound of being nice and close to the mic and a pop filter just helps to offset any potential plosives that may find their way through. It saves time in the edit and is like plosive insurance

    what do you recommend as far as receiving scripts with fiverr there tends to be very questionable users on there that get blocked as soon as they contact you. how do you receive scripts to ensure you are not getting malware or viruses?

    • @FaulksDigital
      @FaulksDigital  7 месяцев назад +1

      I am fortunate to not have experienced that myself. Fiverr scans links and so far anything malicious has been caught by their scans.
      Otherwise you can ask clients to send scripts via google doc links instead of sending a file you would otherwise have to download

    Hey man @Faulks Digital, just wanted to reach out and say liked the video and the information you gave. I wanted to inquire about what type of headphones you had around your neck? I have had the Sony MDR-7506 for several years and I am extremely disappointed as this is my second pair that the material on the ear cushions have been cracking and ending up all around my home studio and stuck to my ears. LOL. I would like to upgrade to something that shares more of a cloth/silky material like the ones you have so I don't have to potentially worry about replacing ear muffs again and again as I've already replaced these once with the same outcome of the material cracking. If you wouldn't mind letting me know, I'd greatly appreciate it! -Matt

      Hi mate thanks for the comment! I couldnt recommend anything better than Beyerdynamic - precision german engineering hah! MY DT990 Pros have been the best headphones i've ever worn, and super comfy for long sessions. Anything from Beyerdynamic is a good shot! They have a 700 series as well, high recommend those too.

    • @FaulksDigital

      Its perfectly fine to get you started no problem! What's more important is making sure you record in a nice dry sounding space (a wardrobe, cupboard, acoustically treated room, home made vocal booth) and that you work on your own performance skills

    • @FaulksDigital
      @FaulksDigital  Год назад +1

      Yes incredible, $10-15k per month but I will admit it is mostly from my video services. Voiceover gives me some additional income every month but nowhere near as much. But that is only because I have not put as much energy and effort into my gigs. They could be better. There are plenty of better examples of successful Fiverr VO artists
