I couldn't agree more. I've watched this video 3 times. I immediately felt home. The narration, the cinematography, the music background. It's perfection. Is it possible to have a look at the floor plan?
In Northern Virginia, we have McMansion neighborhoods; with rows of large ugly box houses, some with brick fronts but with vinyl siding (used to reduce the cost and the property taxes) and purchased by folks who don't know any better.
Tranquil sounds you might hear in an Australian suburb: - Kookaburra - Annoying ass birds - Subaru WRX Mufflers - Groups of teenagers smashing bottles on the sidewalk - Loud Aussie slang coming from all directions spread sparsely throughout the day - Neighbours 15 year old son blasting One-Four from a JBL speaker he got for Christmas - Screaming baby resulting from neglect - Obnoxious lawn mowers presenting themselves at dawn - The loud shouting matches between a soon-to-be divorced couple
It’s interesting to note how expansive this house feels on a typical suburban lot. If only all suburban homes were built with these principles, I think there’d be less desperate hunger for giant lots and homes. It’s not a matter of size, it’s how the space is used. Thank you for sharing. Breathtakingly beautiful.
In the development where I live, you can purchase a lot and you can build the house of your choice, but the land can only be cleared sufficient to site the house. The house design has to go before the architecture review board for approval. Thus no two houses are the same. And the roads are curved to follow the terrain. At one end of the development they built townhouses and condominiums surrounded by ponds and lakes and tennis courts. Progressing further, modest houses were built, each a unique design with a driveway and landscaped. Progressing further, larger lots and houses were built and so on and so forth. If you lived in this neighborhood, you had the "right address". To top it all off, we have a very popular golf course adjacent to the development.
@@知-k3q That's simply not true. Courtyards of different sizes and shapes that encourage a peaceful and calm experience are design goals that can enhance a person's sense of serenity. In this, my limited experience has been that the Koreans and the Japanese courtyards have led the way.
From the beginning, the colours of the home and garden are harmonious- the autumnal leaves, the blackbutt wood and the Tasmanian oak, all work well off each other. This gives the home a calm effect, not allowing one particular element of the home to overwhelm anything else.
It brought me to tears seeing the birds eye shot of the house and seeing that no, it isn’t actually in the hills of rural Japan but in an actual neighborhood...with neighbors...and a ROAD. I actually almost shed a tear because other than that it’s PERFECT like actually a masterpiece of a home.
I love the size the privacy, the light and coziness of the courtyard. For me personally I keep seeing courtyard houses and this is one of my favorite ones, but I'd like to see one that isn't so minimal. This gave me the idea of having one with a small vegtable garden in the middle possibly, and a small little pond. I'd like to see courtyard houses that are filled with items, not exactly messy but filled with items of expression and not having such a big open space when you already have such big open spaces connected to the outside. For me, it feels more balanced
this house makes me feel all sorts of things. we're in the process of designing our house at the moment- we have nowhere near the budget that would allow for this level of house, but i'm hoping to draw some inspiration from this, especially the seamless integration between the inside and outside
I’m so very impressed with this house & the way that the principles behind it impart meaning to the choices made. It must be so very special in any weather & any season!
So, so beautiful. Very impressive restoration. The owners must be pleased beyond my imagination. And the architecs very proud. This is for sure one way of making the world a better place.
what makes simple designs like this so lovely is that you appreciate the clever intentional decisions made by the architect all the more because you can focus on them in a restful peaceful manner. I wish we had material like timber locally.
Colour, material, space and engagement between in and outside is just outstanding! Beautiful project. The combination between east and western style is very well done! This is excatly my dream house that I will build for me soon.
This house is stunning. I've always dreamed of owning a classic American Craftsman style home from the exterior but internally have it traditional/minimalist Japanese style.
Wonderful transformation. Particularly enjoyed hearing about the house was design from the "inside-out". Love the simplicity, and the underlying theme of '"sanctuary." Great project.
as a huge fan of courtyards, I love this. I come from a Korean background and those types of wooden deck-veranda is very common in traditional Korean architecture too.
Beautiful. This is something I would love to have also. I want a house built around a courtyard with inside and outside seamlessly merging. I love the concept of courtyards. Traditionally in my country houses were built around the courtyard to accommodate extended families. This way the families were together. The children would grow up together thus creating a strong bond. Everything would happen the courtyard. Thanks for the video.
I've been on and off designing the home I'd love to see myself in for the last 3 or so years, and so far, this is the closest anyone has come to what I hope to achieve. Absolutely stunning home!
How fun!! Good for you!! That must be such a fulfilling task. I'm inspired to do the same, yet I feel that's such a large project to take on. Yet in a way, I feel the process has begun. Blessings to you to see your dream come to fruition and provide you endless gifts!
That is drop dead gorgeous!! SO STUNNING!! Holy moly - my hopes are if I could live in a place like this, in the near future, I would not be displeased!!
I like how it's not trying to BE or directly imitate a Japanese house, given the mishmash of styles in the original building - to imitate it directly would just end up looking gaudy. Instead, it's a really quality 'inspired-by' original bespoke creation done with care and sympathy - that blends elements of Japanese styling while still being in keeping with the fact it's an older brick-style suburban bungalow house. Not saying a faithful recreation of a Japanese house would be a bad idea, just that the original house and location meant would have made a traditional high-fidelity imitation would have been hugely constrained.
Hands down one of the most beautiful homes I've seen here. Always been a fan of simplicity. Way better than the other mega houses.

This is everything I have ever dreamed of in a home. Simplicity, tranquility, with a beautiful balance with nature. I am at peace just looking at it.
I dream of that white cactus sculpture. Anyone know where it is from please? Or where one can buy a similar one?
@@newleft2254 Yes, that is a Gufram cactus designed by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello.

Love the Japanese influence without looking tacky and out of place.
I 100% agree, they used a lot of the Japanese design elements but blended them perfectly with the environment.
@TokyoLlama Love the work you have done on your home. Any ideas you might be taking into your project sir?
@@renegade4451 thanks, I’m not sure there’s anything specific but I always did want a house with a courtyard that surrounding rooms can open on to.
Chinese courtyards are better than Japanese ones, and Japan is suitable for small villas! China is wider and more elegant ~

Not only the home is beautifully constructed, the Japanese style gardens around the home are excellent too ! Love it !!
Every so often a house is truly perfect, this is such a house. I felt time slow down while just watching and trying to breathe. Sublime
Ahh, a true urban oasis. A livable size, a flowing building. I live there in a heartbeat.
The feeling of serenity this house projects is the same feeling of being out in nature.
窓際のお人形さん(銅像?)が気になるわ。
白い大きなサボテンの置物かわいい。
お庭の景色、珍しく本当に日本らしく見えます。竹は管理が大変でないかしら…。
換気されてる方は日本人の方なのかな?
A beautiful home that still feels livable; art with practicality in mind. Fantastic work from everyone involved.
I'm watching this again and again . This house makes me feel so peaceful .
Watching this I felt like time stopped, and everything else around was moving slowly, quietly, meaningfully...
Using bamboo next to the fence to get the "green wall" effect is just the best.
That sense of orientation, sheltered and secure, blending seamless expansion and breathing light transformation.. That!
I can literally see myself opening and closing these windows on a daily basis. Stunning Zen.
A butterfly grows from within me as I immerse myself through this design
Another winner. The simplicity is perfect. The wood used throughout is amazing.
This home seems so functional yet its beauty is still understated, clean & pure. Amazing house!

what an art piece is that water body, even nature salutes to the artist
one of the most breath taking home. Simple and peaceful.
Breathtaking. The garden and how it connects the entire house to the outdoors and sun is breathes life into the home.
The most perfect design I’d ever seen. Stunning details hide under anaesthetic simplicity.
