  • January 2024 - begins my next adventure in my ceramics journey,
    Let do Raku!
After the most amazing unexpected christmas gift from my husband I am now the proud owner of a Raku Kiln, thermocouple & burner - however no idea where to start!
This was something I've always wanted to try, but with no available course locally I thought this was something I'd not be able to venture into.
However my hubby had other ideas. He researched himself on You Tube and found one particular potter who had kindly shared her journey, in particular making her own kiln. Huge thanks to Lesley ‪@ThePotteryWheel‬ for the inspiration and tips that gave my husband all the knowledge he needed to make me a kiln. Learning from Lesley and modifications she made helped tremendously, and I'm super excited to start this new journey of discovery.
My plan is to document this new adventure, in all its glory, good, bad and the disasters LOL, for my own personal records. However there may be others interested in doing the same which my journey may help, or potters with experience who may be willing to give me some tips and advise where they see me going wrong.
I've created a playlist to group these videos all together, and hope you enjoy them as much as I anticipate my journey will be,
    Keeping everything crossed!
    See you soon,
    Jeanette

Thankyou Mary, I'm so excited! I feel as if my brain is ready to start learning a whole new vocabulary with the glazing, but also a bit nervous as I never liked Chemistry at school. But....this is different....there is a reason for doing it now lol

I can't wait to start! I've found a course I'm booked onto on 2nd Feb and counting down the days. Saggar looks so rewarding! I'm hoping to progress to that too, but I think I need to be patient and just start at the beginning LOL

Hello Jeanette! I love a Raku clay produced in GB, called 1154. I don’t actually fire it as raku, but I’ve seen some real Raku pots made of the same clay. Perfect clay for sculptures etc. Maybe give it a go? Cheers from cold Finland!

Wow Finland, hello :) I was complaining today how cold it is in the UK, now I'm feeling pathetic lol. I'll definately have a search for that from our key clay suppliers. Thanks so much! Excited to get going :)
