This was 2 days before my 16th birthday. My friend and I came down from Washington. Danny Kirwan was my musical crush. We got invited to party with the band and my other friend with us from Long Beach had to be home. I have always regreted not ditching her and going! haha We got a money advance from my friends uncle to clean apartments the next day and snuck out to go to the concert, ditched him and the job. We had a run in with Long Beach police after the show and they were the worst cops Ive ever had to deal.with, locked us up in grown up jail for being under age, taunted and tortured us for fun. I loved this band. Played Kiln House, Future Games and Bare trees over and over. Danny was 22 here, playing that masterful. Good times! So glad to find this show. This old grandma still loves FM.

Danny jumps right out with his deft tremolo and guitar riffs in "Tell Me". They had some sound problems with Christine's vocals, but the band sounds tight to me. I've always had an appreciation for how this band went through a lot of musical and personnel changes, but this period of their development from a blues band into rock psychedelia, and pop, was one of the most dynamic. This performance of Danny's song "Sunny Side of Heaven" (Bare Trees), and Welch's "Future Games" are examples of Fleetwood Mac's diversely unique sound.
ちょうどBare TreesがU.S.Repriseからreleaseされた時期で、"Fleetwoodmac the Complete Guide to their Music"では、1972年は前作Future Gamesのpromotingの年で、Deep PurpleやSavoy Brownの前座をして、U.S.やEuを回っていたそうです。すでにBare Trees からSunny side of Heaven(D.Kirwan),The Ghost(B.Welch),Homeward Bound(C.McvVe)などが演奏されています。 Thanks!
What a travesty that Bob Welch wasn't invited to their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They left out the man that carried them & kept them alive for years, after Green & Spencer flipped out, and before they added the girls Buckingham & Nicks!
Bob welch did not carry Fleetwood Mac nor keep them alive the principle guitarist, songwriter, arranger and at that point front man was Danny kirwan your ill informed. I agree he should have had his 5 mins of fame and been inducted but any guitarist could have been hired Danny was the key to Mac’s transition from blues/heavy rock to pop soft rock it’s well documented he was as good a player as green and an extremely underrated song writer.
@@Skelterz To me some of Bob Welch’s songs were not as strong as say Sentimental Lady or Future Games but the band needed him at the time and he filled a vital role for several albums. The fact that he was not inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was not fair. I never knew he was not blues oriented at the time.
@@Skelterz You're either delusional or a liar. Saw FM in 1972 and 1073, Danny was long gone off into a mental ward. Not only was Welch in charge on the stage he managed Fleetwood Mac, so quit making up stories, boy.
Great audio, was that Bob Welsh using a Wah pedal? I was a big fan of the Mac throughout the Peter Green years and don’t remember Danny Kirwan using one?
Does anyone find it strange that none of Danny Kirwan's lead vocals are included? Was he even with the band for this show? "Tell Me All The Things You Do" is a Kirwan song, but it appears that Christine is singing lead. I know he was fired in August of 1972 (according to Wikipedia), and replaced by Bob Weston - is it possible that Weston was playing at this show, and doing his best Kirwan imitation? Inquiring minds want to know.
I'm pretty sure it's Danny singing "Tell Me All The Things You Do". Compare it to this clip of the Seattle concert 2 months prior to this concert where his vocals are more prominent. ruclips.net/video/733GlSvigGs/видео.html
it’s Danny singing the opening song, not to mention that’s there’s clearly 2 guitars. Danny has the wah wah Gibson and Bob’s tone is cleaner - Telecaster
@carolinewoodward1016 Certainly not in San Diego; FM didn't play west of the Mississippi in August/September of 1972. I have the shows at Gaelic Park in the Bronx (Aug 31) and Commack, Long Island (Sept 2nd) and Danny's still there. The story I heard was that Danny had been drinking a bit and before a September show (I would guess the last two, in Greensboro NC) he got into an argument with Welch over tuning, stormed out on the gig, but chose not to go back to the hotel. Instead, he sat in the audience (Welch now suddenly having to play leads) and then came into the dressing room and gave the others a scathing critique, at which point Mick fired him. (This is all third-hand info, though. If someone has better details, please let me know.)
@carolinewoodward1016 Oh, wow. "Argument over tuning" was an undersell. Clifford Davis must have booked the group into the ground. Christine wrote "Homeward Bound" to complain about the touring schedule and that was before this. And Danny was just a kid when he had to step in for Peter. 16 when he was Peter's student, 18 when he joins the band, 20 when Peter leaves (although Jeremy Spencer tried to take the lead on "Kiln House"), still 20 when Jeremy wanders off into Hollywood with $84 in his pockets, 22 at the end. Rough ride. (The part where they lost the big British audience with Peter and were now spending a lot of time in America was probably disconcerting [pun?] as well.) I'll check the concert bills to see which shows were with Deep Purple (as opposed to Savoy Brown [Walker] and Long John Baldry [Weston]). I know the Gaelic Park show had FM in between Deep Purple and Elf (presumably this is where Ritchie Blackmore started thinking he'd rather work with Dio than with Ian Gillan), but Danny was still around after that. And I know that John had a lot of issues, too. Christine was always all "it was a mutual decision to end the marriage and we kept it quiet for the band's sake", but clearly John wasn't so thrilled about her sleeping with Martin Birch during the "Mystery to Me" sessions, and that's how you end up with John chasing her with a loaded gun a few years later. (Had to have been at least 1975, since Stevie was hiding in the closet with her.) And Bob Weston's excuse for boning Jenny Boyd Fleetwood sets new records for lameness. Not only does he try to blame the Zodiac, but later on he was claiming they were born on the exact same day, when it was actually a week apart. If he felt the need to sleep with someone born in November 1947, why not Hillary Clinton? Bill need never have known. Interesting about Janice and Danny. Do you think Jenny was interested in Danny as well? I know she wrote the lyrics for "The Purple Dancer" and part of another song, and I read Clifford Davis didn't want her in the band because he was a sexist and Christine was trouble enough…but perhaps he was worried about a full-time triangle forming if Jenny was with them all the time? Huh. Thanks for your posts!
