I think the protection effect of the seal is that it can’t be destroyed, but it can be banished.
Since the real world legendary knights’ effects are: when they are summoned they can banish 1 spell or trap on the field. This would make sense since in the anime when all 3 are summoned they each removed one layer of the seal that Dartz played.

As the name seems to lead to, I think the stone is actually orichalcum. In most rpgs I’ve played that involve orichalcum in some capacity, the ore is apparently one of the most durable if not unbreakable materials to exist in fiction next to mythril and adamantite. If the worshippers of the Orichalcos used the ore as the base for creating the seal cards, then it sort of makes sense why they both can’t be penetrated from either inside or outside or why you need another shard of the stone to destroy the seal.

I can't take his comments on the card seriously. If that guy was in charge of creating the card in the actual card game then of course he needs to nerf it in order to balance it. The fact that we ended up getting what we got is clear indication of that.
In the anime everything needed to be busted for plot's sake to create conflict and/or tension. Dartz alone had, if not the most busted, one of the most busted cards/decks we've seen. And of course he did, we just had an entire season of watching Egyptian Gods and shadow games; what could even top that? Kinda the same problem that Dragon Ball runs into; where you need a new villain that was hidden from all up to that point and, of course, a new transformation to top what you did the season before.

I think the refrence of the monsters turning dark or evil was foreshadowing. The seal indiscriminately corrupts all by finding whatever evil is withing the person and amplifying it. This was key in all of the lackies becoming servents of the Orichalcos. Rex and Weevil were targeted for their direvt jealously over Joey and Yugi. Mia was also going through similar struggles since yugi and Co's show of friendship had her doubt her old live philosophy and independent strength. We also learn that all of Dartz henchmen from the start were secretly groomed to have negativity and be susceptible (even if these were a stretch and really dumb once shown.) We finally learn the TRUE villain was not Dartz but the parasitic Liavathan that corrupted the Atlanteans over time into monsters (both figuratively and literally..again dumb but ok..) to claim their souls for itself. It corrupted Dartz I to the maniac he was to use him as a dark puppet and spread the corruption further. This is a mirror of Zorcs tactics from millenium world as this was a filler arc character rinspired by elements form the main manga story. Again, it seems just a way to foreshadow to the main crew that none if the characters they will be fighting in the arc are actually evil but just influenced by the seal and ANYONE can be. This especially pays off when Yami is affected by the seals influence himself and his darkness becoming more heightened is what leads to the loss of Yugi's spirit. He has to soul search to figure out if he really was as evil as he was being claimed to be. The truth is that his agressive actions were the result of the seal since anyone with any small amount of darkness at all can be targeted; and he was being manipulated to think it was just his true nature surfacing.

Mai also had 5-6 Harpie Lady cards out. She seemed to be visibly threatened by Fiber Jar's activation and the reactions from others who were watching seemed to indicate such an effect would work. Ofc Mai used Harpie's Featherstorm to Negate Fiber Jar, so idk. I'd like to add that the Stone of Orichalcos as a "get out of jail for free card" has a one-way application, literally. The Seal of Orichalcos is like a safe, and as such can only be opened from the outside. Therefore, the Stone of Orichalcos can only break the seal if it's slammed into the seal from the outside.
It is unclear whether or not Gurimo had a Stone of Orichalcos, but as a member of Doma it is safe to say he did. Also, as you all remember he did cower out at the end of his duel with Atem, so if he had the stone, he surely would've used it to escape the seal, except he couldn't, because the stone can't break the seal from within.
Furthermore, the Seal of Orichalcos "cannot be destroyed by card effects". That is why the Legendary Knights could get rid of it by "banishing" it. Back in the day "banishing" wasn't really a thing so that's why the Legendary Knights being able to "destroy" the seal was so confusing.

I'm guessing it suppresses other magic, but is not absolute. Much like the first mook's claim about the Seal being indestructible, I'd take that claim with a grain of salt.

Is it easier or harder to use an Earthbound God with them? Is it more compatible with Numbers, or with CXyz? What would happen to a LIGHT being like the Wave of Destruction (in Saiou or the D, presumably) if they were to use it? What impact, if any would it have on Zorc? on Z-ONE? on Z-ARC? on any of the various A.I. or extraterrestrial beings we've seen over the years? Ok, this Is so interesting to hear about, but I have two theories also doubling as questions:
1: If the Seal can be broken with a fragment of the Orichalcos, can the cards used to activate the Seal, which are using the Orichalcos pieces, also be used as metaphorical "Keys", so to speak?
2: the writing on the card text border intrigues me: "If thou wishes to seek our power, a great power dwells within thyself. It shall dwell within." This gives me the notion that for someone who wants power, the power/potential already exists deep inside the person, it just needs to be unlocked, my theory is that the Orichalcos God/Great Leviathan, doesn't just give you It's power to crush your enemies, it gives you a fragment of It's power to unlock your latent potential/power that is inside you, and the Seal could be a type of key for to unlock it, but the price of this unlocking is a human soul.
It's actually similar to how people back in the old days of Yu-Gi-Oh used to use their own spirit energy: Ba, to materialize their monsters: Ka, and also make them stronger.
I don't expect you to read this, but tell me what you think about this.

Effectively, we're trying to break down what the fictional rules were for the Seal of Orichalcos, disregarding the magical aspects and instead determining why specific effects work and why others don't (aka Theory-Crafting), since the physical card still had to follow the game's rules.

It's from the greek word δεύτερος, which means second. The next evolution is called tritos (in greek τρίτος), pronounced treetos and not traeetos, which means third. Hence them being the second and third forms!
Also, fun fact: Hermos, Timaeus and Critias are the protagonists in one of Plato's hypothetical dialogues trilogy. As a greek I was really surprised that this arc of yugioh had these references!

As for the level of protection that the Seal had to prevent destruction, it likely would be immune to opponent's destruction effects and couldn't be targeted, but could be bounced or banished by non-targetting effects possibly. This means that you could play another field spell to remove it from your own side of the field, but to remove it from the opponent's side of the field, you'd need something like Giant Trunade or some such. Or playing your own field spell since that wasn't a destruction effect, per say (although that wouldn't work anymore after they made each player's field spell zone able to be used simultaneously).

I have to say that the Seal can't be destroyed, I would include via game mechanics which would mean that at the time it would either be the only way to get 2 field spells or it would pop the other field spell.
Most likely you could just say that it can't be destroyed by card effects and that neither player can activate Field spells, except "Oricalchos" spells, since otherwise you could just throw your own field spell on top of the Seal which is definitely against the concept that it's going for and you would THINK that if that was possible that everyone in Doma would run a field spell as a potential escape button in addition to the ring. If it couldn't be targeted then Dust Tornado wouldn't have been able to be activated. The Deuteros/Tritos effects would presumably be tributing or sending the Seal to the GY instead of destroying it via game mechanics since they need to be placed in sequence instead of being able to just pop Deuteros onto the field without putting the Seal first.
The statement by McHale certainly doesn't read like something that is written by someone who is actually privy to anime information trying to give accurate effect text and more is him talking about translating the effect to the card game. He's specifically talking about the ruling issues putting monsters in your back row cause (inb4 Valiants) and thus why they didn't give the TCG Seal that effect. Unless McHale actually spoke with the anime writers for the episodes (most likely Yoshida, although he clearly doesn't talk with people involved with the TCG...) then his claim on the anime card's effect is honestly LESS valid than the character he claims is "just lying."

One thing also that I found kind of weird was the seal's soul-capturing ability. It could only steal one soul per duel. However, as we know you have to lose the duel to lose your soul. When Joey duels Mai the second time around. Joey doesn't lose the duel. Yes, Mai could have won and had the win there, but she did not attack. Joey's life points did not drop to zero. He collapsed due to the intense duel he had with Valon and was weakened going into the Mai duel. Overall, he didn't lose the duel yet his soul was still captured. So maybe the seal can capture your soul if you are weakened enough to see the duel out.
Similar to Alistar when he threatened Kaiba that he was going to stall until the plane crashed. He said that the seal would capture all 3 of us. I think the seal's soul-capture effect should have been explained better in the anime itself.
Lastly, one thing I found really odd that was never explained was when Atem duels Raphael the second time. After Eotas is destroyed. The seal starts on Raphelas forehead turns red and the seal on the field starts sending out shockwaves of some kind.

In response to orichalcos negating millennium item effects, i remember it was said that Atlantis was older than Egypt

I assume anime version has at least destruction protection. However you can still out it. Like to me it makes sense you can giant trunade it away. Also if you summon Trish you can banish it or use cosmic cyclone since it’s not immune to targeting.

To be fair, he never said “it can’t be destroyed in any way” he said “it can’t be destroyed THAT WAY” which implies that there is a way.

there is a thing "it can't be destroyed" but playing another field would remove it. Could play sole judgment to negate it first. Grand trade than card destruction.

Hmph. Nothing to be unexpected when it comes to 1 of Satan's creations, still ironic that the Leviathan would share the same fate as its creator, but by the very power it used to control and devour people.

My person headcannon, even though it probably doesn't make sense, is that the Orichalcos are condensed fragments of the Light of Destruction. No reason really, I just think it's a cools idea

Let's keep it 💯. The Orichalcos is really Kryptonite. Also W Consistency.

Just imagine how much trouble the characters could have avoided had they just played a different damn field spell.

Consider the old rule of field spell that is probably a smart play

I'd argue the seemingly REAL ACTUAL world-threatening monster from which the powers of the seal originate might have given it full protection while the creature lived, perhaps only able to be bypassed by having a legitimate supernatural force of your own to counter the Leviathan, or the Leviathan hypothetically choosing to drop that protection if it ever were to decide its wielder should no longer have it's aid.
