This. I stumbled upon this one when taking a class with very few students where everyone knew each other. Since I knew all of my classmates I automatically just didn't feel the need to take on the speech pattern of someone who is doing a class presentation and I just "talked" to them about the topic at hand. I had a mind shift moment there. I never really suffered from stage fright but this new mindset improved my presentations immensely.
Public speaking is still hard for me but whenever I do any of it I like to remember that it’s a chance to connect with others, rather than a test to prove myself. 💫

I think making RUclips videos can really make one a better public speaker. Coz you get to hear your own audio and see your own expressions which can be really hard to digest in the beginning. But that surely helps! Great Video Ali 🙌🏻

I was doing a speech for a recruitment, the first one I did fully scripted and got no recruits. The second time I did with speaking points and let my personality shine through, cracking a few jokes and so, we got 6 recruits!!!
Right on! No one is interested in watching a "robot" share a script. If you practice in a way that leaves space for spontaneity in the moment, you'll feel more like yourself and as a result, connect better with your audience.
Absolutely amazing video! Totally agree- we tend to worry too much about the way we come across rather than just being natural when we talk. Awesome advice, man!

yeeaaaahhh!!! Great video! Extra points for playing Triple Step "live". Notice how Ali committed to a clear direction immediately: "to be honest, I think the color of life is blue" Committing to one thing unlocks your brain (and prevents it from freezing). From there he was able to take a seemingly non-sensical statement and find some meaning in it. Most of us who struggle with our brains going blank aren't willing to commit unless we're 100% certain what we're going to say is perfect before we say it. This is a recipe for disaster. As a great improviser once said, "you don't wait for a great idea, you take a good idea and strive to make it great" Next time you have to speak under pressure, try committing to what you're saying (try really caring about what you're sharing) and you'll immediately feel looser and more confident.

Ali is honestly such a great public speaker, but in an alternative way. He is not bold or brash (like myself lol) His softness just works for some reason!
The best way to get better at speaking is 'fake it til you make it'. Find someone who you know who is amazing at speaking and just try and speak like them. It might feel weird at first but you'll eventually begin to genuinely speak better through *imitation* I did that and my confidence and public speaking become MUCH better!
@Arimesa Sangma I just copied how my friend (who is great at public speaking) spoke and I suddenly had a steady pace, nice clear projection, and easy to understand annunciation. It's crazy!

I was recently asked to do a toast to very close friends celebrating their 25th anniversary. Kept the toast at 5mins or thereabouts. Not having done something like this before, nervousness and trepidation’s. Practically sat and memorized the speech. And then got nervous about the delivery sounding like the announcement at London’s Bank Station - ‘mind the gap, stand clear of the doors please!. The audience was family and friends. Familiar and comfortable - this allowed me to be in that ‘talking with friends’ mode. One thing I did notice - I kept getting into may head ! Letting my mind get distracted from what I needed to say to focusing on ‘wonder what they thought about that line’ . And then scrambling to recover from that blank pause! If only this video was released before that event! A lot of insights and knowledge and I’m sure I would have done better knowing what I know now. Because I’m always first when a I’m presenting or giving a speech it always kills me. I had to deal with this every year and it sucked but after this video I’ve become eased and now are great at public speaking.
Totally agree with the advice to slow down and take pauses. People *love* give others the advice to go fast, but it’s a fallacy. It’s basically your insecurity telling you you’ll lose the audience if you stop talking. Actually, the opposite is true. Purposeful pacing is powerful. Sure, there’s a time and a place for speed, but it’s just sometimes. We need a breather. Take the few seconds. Everyone appreciates it.

I was recently asked to do a toast to very close friends celebrating their 25th anniversary. Kept the toast at 5mins or thereabouts. Not having done something like this before, nervousness and trepidation’s. Practically sat and memorized the speech. And then got nervous about the delivery sounding like the announcement at London’s Bank Station - ‘mind the gap, stand clear of the doors please!. The audience was family and friends. Familiar and comfortable - this allowed me to be in that ‘talking with friends’ mode. One thing I did notice - I kept getting into may head ! Letting my mind get distracted from what I needed to say to focusing on ‘wonder what they thought about that line’ . And then scrambling to recover from that blank pause! If only this video was released before that event! A lot of insights and knowledge and I’m sure I would have done better knowing what I know now. Toastmasters Association collab in the lines for you soon ? 😉

Because I’m always first when a I’m presenting or giving a speech it always kills me. I had to deal with this every year and it sucked but after this video I’ve become eased and now are great at public speaking.

Totally agree with the advice to slow down and take pauses. People *love* give others the advice to go fast, but it’s a fallacy. It’s basically your insecurity telling you you’ll lose the audience if you stop talking. Actually, the opposite is true. Purposeful pacing is powerful. Sure, there’s a time and a place for speed, but it’s just sometimes. We need a breather. Take the few seconds. Everyone appreciates it.
