I converted to Catholicism from atheism at 19, years before I met my future husband. My husband is also Catholic (a cradle Catholic, baptized and brought up Catholic since a baby). When we got married most of my family members were atheist/agnostic or otherwise very unfamiliar with Catholicism, so we created an Order of Service, which was a beautiful printed booklet that was handed out as people arrived. It said “Welcome to the Wedding of (my name) and (my husband’s name)” on the cover with lovely illustrations. It had absolutely all the Mass, including the words of everything (such as the Creed, and the songs, and a litany to the saints that was sung) PLUS all the directions such as “all kneel” or “please stand” so non-Catholic guests could anticipate what would happen and not feel embarrassed, confused or awkward. Obviously people are free to not kneel etc but at least they knew what the rest of the congregation would be doing. I wanted to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible to all our guests. Many non-Catholics told us what a beautiful and moving wedding it was and my Protestant Aunt and Uncle were in tears and said the music was the most beautiful they had ever heard at a wedding - we had live music and a friend sang Ave Marie during the receiving of Communion. We also got married a historic Catholic Church In London, England. It was smaller than usual but very ornate and felt intimate. We have been happily married 27 years! Congratulations on your wedding Lizzie!

I loved this video! I loved our Catholic wedding! It was one of the best days of my life. The sacrament of marriage is so special and to receive the Eucharist was so amazing to have God part of our marriage and we also brought roses to Mary to include our mother in Heaven as well. I love Catholicism, because I love God so much and His Church is where I feel at home. Congratulations! Not sure if your wedding was recent or not. You looked beautiful!

There is another major difference: the priest does not marry the couple but they marry each other by the vows they make in front of God.The priest is just the witness of the oath. That is why the priest does not say "I declare you husband and wife", but rather something like "I present to you Mrs. and Mrs. xxxxx" (to the congregation)

Thanks for covering declarations of nullity! Topic isn't covered enough and people can be very cynical about the Church's process (like you said, the "it's just Catholic divorce" false belief) -- but having been through the process in my mid-twenties and speaking from experience, sometimes people DO blatantly lie, and it's beautiful that the Church doesn't trap people when that happens.

I think marriage prep time depends a bit on the priest. We had a 75 day engagement and our priest worked with us. Our priest knew my husband's family well. Also, I was a convert, so the first Catholic wedding I ever attended was my own. I had to learn so much!
Your wedding day is one of the most joyful, but fir us the birth of our children was even better than our wedding. The culmination of our marriage! I have heard it described as the incarnation of our love!

Another big difference between Catholic and Protestant weddings is that a catholic couple ALWAYS gets married in the prescence of a crucifix to symbolize that just like Christ the husband and wife are now entering into a lifetime of dying to themselves and their own wants and needs and living a life of sacrificial love for their spouse and children so as to help them get to heaven.🙏🏻🙏🏻 and this is the main reason Catholic marriage is a sacrament bc the only way to continually die to self love and self interest is through the supernatural grace conferred upon the husband and wife as they minister the sacrament of Matrimony to each other. Without this supernatural grace, it is humanly impossible to live out marriage in the way God called us to.

Love, love your post. I would like to add to the teaching inside a Church. This is based on dioceses and must be on consecrated land. Some churches are located with outdoor chapels and have consecrated land with altar where a wedding is allowed.
We have an outdoor chapel next to our Church. These are very specific and is not something very common. With that being said, you still have to have permission from both Dioceses and churches if this is not your local parish.

A suggestion perhaps, it would probably be more helpful to emphasize more - which you did - "why a Catholic wedding does what it does," more than "why Catholic wedding does NOT or one CANNOT." But, you did a great job! Congratulations and enjoy the journey! God bless.

Actually that rule is changing now.
“The Archdiocese of Montana and the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Maryland, have recently ruled that a priest or deacon can now officiate a wedding in "another suitable place."
over 50 couples have requested priests to marry them in venues like hotels and museums, and nearly a third of them have been for outdoor locales. Some other dioceses allow it on a case-by-case basis, but generally don't promote the policy. Barr added that priests can also request to marry a couple in a non-church wedding, as long as one is a confirmed Catholic and resides in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. They also have to go through the Church's marriage preparation.”

I’m a practicing traditional Catholic and in my parish between getting engaged and married it was three months. Our priest allowed it and along with the marriage prep we met with our priest 0 times it was all with the deacon and even that was just planning the marriage nothing theological or teaching us the actual view of what marriage is in our beautiful faith. It was incredibly disappointing looking back since my husband and I both had a reversion before marriage. It’s sad that marriage is a vocation along with holy orders but it’s not treated in the same manner in a lot of more moderate softer parishes. It takes priest years to become one but marriage is also life long but it’s not treated that way at least not in our home parish where we live. This town is known to run through priest 😢 it’s quite sad. Thankfully we’ve had wonderful priest who come to offer masses that are very devout from other towns! GOD BLESS YOU! we have been leaning towards the tlm

Anyone have tips to make the non-Catholic partner more comfortable? I know if I marry my partner his church will bully and exclude him if we don’t get married in the Catholic Church. He is comfortable there, and I won’t be the reason they subject him to micro aggressions and small rejections such as not being able to take communion, or not recognizing the marriage as valid. I’m so uncomfortable with the rigidity, legalism, and rituals. I just want to get through the wedding without crying or having a panic attack. Please don’t tell me to just do what I want for the reception. The ceremony is actually what I used to look forward to. I know at this point I’m the least important person involved in my wedding, but any tips? Even just breathing tips or how not to have an anxiety attack? I’m a Christian fyi, and do also recognize that Catholics can be Christians, otherwise I wouldn’t date one lol

The Eucherist is brought by the priest to the wedding. You can add to the vows. You can get remarried. 2 of my siblings are re-married. It happens. You have to have permission from a Bishop to get married outside of a church. Getting an annulment means that the Church judges that your marriage was not valid, so if you marry after an annulment, your not getting 'remarried' in the eyes of the Church.

"I was saying my vows in front of God and not in a metaphorical sense". So Catholics teach that God is only present in the Catholic church and God is not present omnisciently? In others words when you pray at home, you are only praying to God metaphorically because you're not in a Catholic cathedral and no Eucharist and been performed 🤔

Hi Lizzie. I still don't understand why you stopped being a first century Christian and started being a third century Christian. I also don't understand how you can believe what you believe in light of Galatians 2. I'd also like to get your idea of what Matt 5:19 says to Gentile Christians today. I also wish you listened more to your father. He was right to say that not all church fathers believed in transubstantiation.

As a cradle Catholic, I got married in the Catholic Church by my cousin whose a priest 40 years ago. He studied in Rome and was even able to get a papal blessing for me and my wife by Pope John Paul II, who I actually got to meet when he came to my home town as a cardinal back in 1969. Unfortunately, over the past few years, I feel that the Church has left me because of their turn further to the right here in the United States as well as their support for Donald Trump. It boggles my mind that so many people in the Church, particularly among the Church Militant crowd as well as Dr Taylor Marshall could find it in their hearts to support such an immoral human being as Trump, as well as their seeming hatred for our current more moderate Pope Francis. Because of all this, my wife and I no longer feel comfortable or even wanted the Church. I personally see things getting even worse should Pope Francis resigns due to ill health or passes way. The next pope I believe will be an extremist on the right instead of someone more moderate. This will only lead to more people like my wife and myself leaving the Church for good.

David, as Peter responded, where would we go? This is the one, true, holy, Catholic and apostolic church that Jesus founded. If I may encourage you to participate in Father Mike Schmitz’s Catechism In a Year Program to learn everything about the church’s teachings. Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and a host of preceding presidents have been gravely immoral. We have a Catholic president who ambitiously promotes abortion, homosexual marriage and transgender ideology which are gravely against the teachings of the Church bc they are so harmful to the life of the individual made in the image and likeness of God. I pray rather than leaving, you spend this time of discernment in study of the WHY Holy Mother Church teaches what she does. It is based on the authority of Jesus Christ who can never deceive nor be deceived. Rather than look for liberal or conservative priests, popes, teachings etc., ask The Holy Spirit to lead you to all truth. He absolutely will and you will never again contemplate leaving the fullness of truth, the sacraments and Eucharist ever again. Entrust your worries to Our Lady and she will bring you to THE TRUTH, her most glorious son truly present body, blood, soul and divinity in the Catholic Church. Peace my beloved brother .

@@kathleenodonnell8355 As someone who does not support Biden, I do however find him an honorable man. If you are thinking that Biden being pro-choice makes him immoral, let me make this clear. Being pro choice does not make one be pro abortion. I know far too many people who claim to be pro life, but they are the furthest thing from being pro life. For instance is it being pro-life that they care about the unborn fetus, but after the baby is born, they do not care about the growth, development and health of a child. Is it also being pro life when one supports the death penalty? I say no. There have been numerous cases where people have been but to death, and somewhere down the road have actually be found innocent of the crime that they have been put to death. I happen to be pro-life, but I strongly support a woman getting an abortion if the pregnancy was caused by rape or incest or the life of the mother would be in jeopardy such as an ectopic pregnancy. I am even for abortion when it is know that the baby would not survive the birth or not live for very much longer after the birth. Having a Jewish mother, I can tell you that the God that is in the Old Testament is very different from the one in the New Testament. The God in the Old Testament is a very spiteful and vengeful God, very different from the loving caring Christ in the New Testament. You also only heard of homosexuality in the Old Testament. Not once did Jesus talk about homosexuality. Even though I am a straight male, I do believe that homosexuals should be afforded the same rights as everyone else including when it comes to marriage. After all God did create them to be gay. It has been proven without a shadow of a doubt that homosexuality is an inborn and not a learned trait. Therefore, why should these people be denied to love and should they desire to marry the one they love. I know a couple of lesbian who are married and from what I have seen of them, their marriages are more in line with the teachings of Christ than some marriages between a man and woman that I know.

I feel your pain with the far right crowd. It’s tough to go to a Church and feel like you don’t fit in. But, I can assure you that no matter the spiritual fads of the day, the teaching of the Catholic Church is neither right nor left and it will always stay that way. I’ll pray for you. I know it’s hard living in the current political climate. You know, one thing that comforted me was looking at the variety of people that Jesus called. One of his apostles was a far right zealot (Simon) who would have surely done something like the riot on Jan 6 before he found Christ. Paul was a Pharisee who was caught up in the tiniest minutiae of Jewish life, much like many of the radical traditionalists within our own Church, before Christ revealed himself to him. So I figure if if God can use the right in Jesus’ day, he can do the same now. We are all his children and he loves us very much, despite our disagreements.

Catholic Church is the only one Holy Church, nothing else. Only priest have authority and they are blessed by God. Jesus Christ is the founder of The Catholic Church, only one true church in this world. Historically and Biblically, Catholic Church is everything♥️💕🙏
