우리나라 제주도에 자생하며 일본, 중국 등에 분포한다.
네덜란드 식물학자 버어먼(Burmann, 1706~1779)의 이름에서 유래했다.
삼나무 숲 아래에서 한해살이풀로 자라는saprophyte 부생식물이다.
전체에 엽록소가 없어 흰색을 띤다.
꽃부리는 통 부분에 날개가 있다 (한반도의생물다양성)
