  • Thumper, a footless daredevil parrot, slides down his cage using his beak like a fireman. Despite him and his brothers fear of their new home, Thumper and Sammy, both without feet, adjusted super well, both of them now living their best parrot lives cared for by Jennifer.

So grateful you were willing and able to take these two buddies as your special friends, clearly they love you very much, and it is so amazing how outgoing they are, especially Thumper. They didn't chew of their feet, their parents overzealous preened when they were babies and that's how they eneded up like that. I should know because I follow their account on Instagram

Yeah that did sound strange, but the adults being overzealous with preening for whatever reason sounds more reasonable.

@@bkm2797 Some parrots do chew off their own feet. We had a yellow headed rescue parrot, that one day started to develop a tumor on his foot, and he decided to take it off before we could even give proper treatment.

the people not wanting to take them in could have had good intentions, I mean would you know where to start in providing housing & all the needs of a footless bird? I don't think I would. This person probably didn't know either, but as a foster carer, was probably planning on figuring it out, so they could then pass that info on to a new owner, therefore allowing a new owner to accuately assess if they could provide for their needs, but instead, she fell in love with them & kept them - which is kinda even better as an outcome :)

Wonder if prosthetic feet would work? Like the chicken born with no feet, once they got him little booties that attached (velcro?) around the stumps it gave him new and very active life in yard. It was very low tech (doll boots or something that the gramma threw together).

    • @CuddleBuddiesChannel
      @CuddleBuddiesChannel  7 месяцев назад +6

That's an interesting thought! 🦜💡 While we haven't explored prosthetic options for Thumper and Sammy, it's heartening to hear about the positive impact it had on the chicken you mentioned. Sometimes, simple and creative solutions can make a significant difference in an animal's quality of life. Your thoughtful suggestion is appreciated, and we're grateful for the caring community sharing ideas and support! 🌈❤️👍

yeh, my rescue girl did similar not that long ago, out of no-where, with perfect clarity (and the exact voice of her old, now dead former owner) she blurted out "Hello Polly" (her former name that I had to change cause it would upset her to hear it). 2.5 years she's been living wiht me & he's been dead, but she totaly nailed his voice & words. I had no idea she could talk! She never had before or after, my boy does, but she doesn't & tbh, I personally like birds talking in bird language rather than human language anyway (although it is interesting to learn what I say most often - I get to do that when my boy blurts that out, out of no-where, most recently "what's up", previously "oops, sorry"

In a quiet haven, a house so neat,
Lives Thumper, the parrot, in silence complete.
No spoken words, just a presence so sweet,
A house parrot's tale, in rhythms discreet.
Thumper, the silent dweller, in feathers of gray,
No words to say, as he slides and sways.
No toes to grasp, just a beak to hold,
Handing off his food bowl, a story unfolds.
A brother beside him, a companion in hush,
Together they linger, a bond in the plush.
No spoken chatter, just a quiet hush,
In the house of whispers, where feathers brush.
Thumper, the silent dweller, in feathers of gray,
No words to say, as he slides and sways.
No toes to grasp, just a beak to hold,
Handing off his food bowl, a story unfolds.
On the floor, Thumper glides with grace,
An acrobat's dance in a quiet space.
    Sideways turns, a mesmerizing trace,
Silent rhythms echoing in the feathered embrace.
He doesn't take flight, but slides with delight,
A parrot's spectacle in the soft twilight.
Brother beside him, in the silence so tight,
Their bond unspoken, a comforting sight.
Thumper, the silent dweller, in feathers of gray,
No words to say, as he slides and sways.
No toes to grasp, just a beak to hold,
Hanging off his food bowl, a story unfolds.
In the house of hush, where silence prevails,
Thumper's tale unfolds in feathered trails.
No spoken words, yet a story told,
In the quiet rhythm, of the parrot's hold.

Having been A fairly reputable breeder of African graze I can tell you from experience that it is the parents who become nervous and overpreen the babies. Unfortunately I did have a pair who did that and not only removed feet but wing tips also. Being a responsible breeder i separated this pair and made sure that they Would never breed again by keeping them myself in my large aviary. Kudos to the family that opened their life and their hearts to these beautiful birds.

In the absence of his claws, his beak is his best limb.
The other thing is the way they walk reminds me of a channel I came across a few years ago of teen girl who lost her limbs due to illness. She had her elbows, and the way this bird can use their legs to hold on reminds me of that girl's way of holding things in her elbows. When anyone is detirmined enough, they can get around any disability, and I feel animals do it more easily because they don't have that voice us humans can have in our heads saying "Oh this is hopeless! I'm never going to work out how to function again!", animals just _do it_ and work it out.

    • @mehere8038
      @mehere8038 7 месяцев назад

humans born with the disability or acquiring it "in the nest", or rather as babies do tend to respond the same way these parrots have though, with just never knowing anything different, so never questioning it - at least not until society starts to tell them they are "different" & makes them feel ashamed of how they do things naturally

my parrot rescues disagree, they're really proud of their human mummy, who caters to all their needs from her wheelchair & they're so convinced their human mummy can do anything, that they happily take advantage of her being lower than them when in their cage & poo all over her & drop toys & food out of their cage all over the floor & anything & everything else they can think of that challenges their human mummy who cannot use her legs
I'm sure you mean well, but your comment is actually insulting to those of us with a disability, it's referred to as "ableist" to think that disabled people aren't capable of the same things as able body people can do, but to suggest that birds can adapt to disabilities & humans can't is kinda on another level of that, wouldn't you agree?
Just keep it in mind next time :) By complimenting parrots by comparing them to humans, you are actually insulting the humans you compare them to & say are inferior to the birds. Again, I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but just pointing it out, so you can become more aware :)

My cockatoo has feet and he falls off his perch often. 😂. He always looks at you like you pushed him.

Tiere sind einfach unglaublich. Die Optik ist denen immer egal. Nur die Funktionalität zählt. Und dieser Vogel hat es einfach raus. Trotz Behinderung hat er ein gutes Leben. Alles Gute kleiner Piepmatz 😘❤

I do not believe in keeping birds captive, however, these two gorgeous little birds are so happy. What amazing little survivors they are and it's so lovely to see them so well cared for💞💗🩷💕

Your compassion and understanding are truly appreciated. 🙏💖 We share your sentiment in wanting the best for all animals. Thumper and Sammy's resilience and happiness are at the forefront, and we're grateful to Jennifer for providing them with a loving and caring home. 💕🦜 Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we're glad to have you as a part of their uplifting journey! 🌟😊

It depends. A chicken or duck isn't so bad a along as you give it space. A captive bred, hatched and raised parrot can be kept in a large aviary
