I had this song on my Sanza express around 10 years ago, when I was ~12-13. Now I am a musician and avid listener and can take songs apart a bit, but back then I didn't understand what percussions, melodies, different instruments were. This melody and the movement of the song were just extremely moving to my young self. I've tried to google this song so many times, posted on reddit, hummed the melody to my friends, to no avail. I just found this video on youtube and am in actual tears. It feels like I've encountered an old friend who meant so much to me. Thanks Jun < 3
i love of jun miyakes music!! Congrats on finding the song i know how satisfying that is . this is one of my favorite songs. other songs by jun i really love are "ca fait longtemps" "titia innocenta" and "merry widow" but the special melody in this song def does speak to the soul
This music... it's like you're at a party, but something terrible is coming... you cannot fully enjoy the moment, because you feel inside you a breath of despair...
Hi ! Congratulations for this video !! i love it ! Can you please tell me how you manage to get the right to use this song and who i can contact ? Thank you very much for your help !!!

Aa lot of the clips, like the first one, are from the 1956 film DANCE AMERICANA. I just love how this was put together, the joy of the music and dancers. Really very pretty.
A treat. Beautiful piece of music. Sound credit for the great program “La Grande Table”, an excellent talk program on France Culture with host Olivia Gesbert. Lovely choice.
Obrigado Jeremy Abott. Você é um "cara do bem". Até a música de sua performance em Sochi foi legal! Por sua causa também quero conhecer as obras musicais de Jun Miyake. Você provou ao mundo que o mérito de quem cai é levantar e seguir em frente!
yep, me too! Incredible performance by Jeremy Abbott, admirable recovery from such a nasty fall. The man has the grit and determination to match his taken and skill. Also love this piece, have heard it before and wondered what it was, so grateful that he chose it. Great clip!
This song was downloaded on my first ever MP3 player like 13 years ago and after years and years of it being dormant in my brain I’ve finally reconnected with it. Music is amazing
Every now and then I get the urge to hear "the Lillies of the valley" My first introduction was David Byrne, also really like this video with both tune and visual (repeatitively meditative music but still telling an intriguing story with the dance clips). Great work :)
So beautiful, so evocative, so haunting... It's a brilliant work of interpretation and editing, linkszumliebhaben. The timings, the flows, the transitions, all perfect. Thank you for doing this. I think the music and choreography work even better here than in the original "Dance Americana" film. It also shows how tightly music and choreography can be linked, where the very same dance movements can be imbued with entirely different meanings by changing the music. Again, thank you, linkszumliebhaben!
"Funfact": The german public radio broadcasting station "DLF" (deutschlandfunk - roughly translated as "Germany's radio) has a show called "medias res" where a part of this song is used as the jingle
Endlich! Danke, danke, danke!
Lool... I don't think there's any Pina Bausch's company dancers in this video. The song's taken from Pina OST, but this video seems to be a mash up of some ancient movies dance scenes that I can't identify.
I was thinking maybe this wasnt the original since I have another version of it in my playlist as well but it seems this is it, usual for something like this to happen oh right beautiful song, sinister and strange with a beautiful melancholy
The song is wonderful and the images are just as wonderful. Music that is not easy to categorize, rhythms that change, rhythms that slow down and then speed up. Rhythmic music that shakes you and makes you want to move. At the same time sweet and melancholic, almost sad. Evocative, seductive, nostalgic and even moving the black and white images of dancers now so far away in time. A truly perfect marriage of sounds and images. I would be very curious to know if any of the dancers (or actors) in the video are recognizable. For example the woman who appears in the overlap at minute 1:00 and then the couple at minute 2:07 and again the couple at minute 3:25. Thank you very much. Yes, it pulls you in and one thinks of the talented dancers who hardly get any recognition. Pros all.
