  • Eaters of the Dead - (1.)Things were not always thus (Graeme Revell)
This is the first track in the rejected score for the film The 13th Warrior, at the time though when this score by Graeme Revell was being utilized the film was known as "Eaters of the Dead" which is the original name of the Michael Crichton novel. The movie would go through several edits before Michael Crichton came in and replaced John McTiernan as director. The original film is supposed to be considerably longer, but most of the footage was cut out along with Graeme Revell's score. It represents quite a different take on the matters that occur in the movie, it's a more somber soundtrack in its entirety, and quite a bit more original than that of the one offered by Jerry Goldsmith. That's not to diminish anyone's work, but there were several familiar if not stereotypical concepts used by Goldsmith in the The 13th Warrior, where as Revell took a more modern approach which I would consider a bit more original.
    Enjoy.
