  • Used Young Indiana Jones VHS tape with the Macrovision, known to be the hardest to defeat, The device ignores the MV protection like it was never there.
Played on JVC HR-S7600AM (Line TBC/DNR On) -- S&W TBS-800 Capture Device (Frame TBC/Sync Free Run Mode) -- Black Magic SDI/USB3 Interface -- MediaExpress Capture Software.
De-interlaced and upscaled to 1440x1080 and let RUclips do the encoding.

I can see small white lines on the top frame which indicate to me macrovision is not removed entirely, but is removed just enough so your blackmagic don't make no drama about it

First that area is an overscan, it is not part of the image raster, second, the device ignores it, meaning it doesn't affect the AGC, Ignoring it keeps the frame intact, trying to remove it screws up the quality of the image, devices that remove MV reprocess the entire frame from analog to digital and back to analog and that comes at a loss. You want the video to stay intact.

@@Capturing-Memories Turns out these long white lines are actually closed captions (MV would be just on top of it but not visible as is). Didn't do my homework. Requires a special monitor with adjustable Vertical knobs

@@KNOFGHD1 Correct, I don't have a monitor to access the full frame, If you look at the other video of the BE75 vs. MV I can trick the VCR to show some of the top of the frame by fast forwarding and pause.

I have a CVR400 that also definitely bypasses Macrovision. I don't know the difference, though, between Free Run and Float (yes, I've RTFM).

Free Run locks to its internal clock, the others if you have external timing.

On your CVR800 do you leave the comb filter on, or turn it off? Enabling it on my CVR400 shifts the picture slightly to the left, but has no impact on picture quality.

@@cbehr91 Comb filter applies to composite only, it shouldn't affect Y-C (S-Video), I leave it off since I only capture S-Video.

@@Capturing-Memories One more question. Do you enable the other filters like ACC or CTI?

@@cbehr91 Depends on the tape, I select what I need, if there is no visual difference I leave them on anyway.
