  • After departing Runway 20 at Jerez (LEJR) soon after sunrise, entering Portugal at waypoint NIRAK, @EdThePilot and @DaniellaTheCoPilot finally approach Cascais Airport (LPCS) through the scenic VFR 'tunnels', before landing on Runway 35.
With a light but consistent tailwind, they've managed a flight time just short of 2 hours in the C172P, cruising at FL85 (8,500 feet) for most of the journey.
Soon after crossing into Portugal from Spain, they are cleared by Faro Approach to fly Direct to the Cabo Espichel (ESP) VOR, saving a few minutes to their routing. After being passed to Lisboa ATC from Faro App at 55NM from Cascais and prior to crossing the Baia de Setubal to the ESP VOR, they were cleared to commence their descent and vectored to join the VFR 'Tunnels', which initiate at the Brejos da Carregueira Carvalhal VRP.
We join them as they approach the fourth VRP on the North-West Tunnel towards Cascais (the Lagoa de Albufeira VRP).
Cascais Airport is an incredible destination to fly into, given its VFR approach tunnels, the proximity to Lisbon Airport and being located on a hill, in the middle of a dense conurbation. In addition to this, with heavy volumes of executive aviation using the airport and training traffic in the circuit almost all the time, Cascais Tower is never quiet!
