    Strange Ways written by: Ace Frehley
    Tuning: E flat
    Strange Ways is one of the heavier sounding tracks from Hotter Than Hell. It features Peter Criss on vocals and an extended Ace Frehley guitar solo that is considered a fan favorite. The Strange Ways solo has a phaser or flanger effect, which sounds like a guitar from outer space. The rhythm guitar parts are power chords or 5 chords (G5, F5, A#5, C5, D#5, D5, F5). The guitar solo is based on the G minor pentatonic scale (blues scale).

      Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Chris Happy to sub . The winterland vid is my fav too . I think i saw them there the year before. My friend and i walked right up to the stage as Kiss was hungry and not famous yet. He yelled for them to play “ Strange Ways “ 😹 and of course they didnt.. Gene puked blood 🩸 on people in the front . ( not acceptable these days 😹) and looked me right in the eye .

    One of the all-time greatest solos in rock. Wild, seemingly chaotic, yet quite sophisticated. Ace comes blazing in, makes a mess of the place, then just stops. Genius. Strange.

    Hi Chirstopher. I played it the way you explained and it sounds damn good. I changed fingering of the "hardest part" in that I play 14th on D, 12th on G, 14th on G bending it, pinky on the E 15th and 15th with bend on the B string and going into the descending part. I found this much easier, staying it the same position. I always wanted to play Strange Ways and only got into it based on your video. Amazing job, man, thank you.

      Hey Chris. Thanks man. I'm not 100% sure what effect he used on the original. I used a electro-harmonix analog pedal on the video. It's one of Ace's all-time best solos for sure.

    • @ChristopherCox
      @ChristopherCox  5 лет назад +1

      David, thank you so much for your comment. I really do appreciate it. I'm hinking the guitar solo effect is some kind of studio effect (but I don't know this for sure). I'm not sure how many guitar pedals were around in 74', but I'm thinking very few. I used an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress flange pedal on the lesson, but I'm sure a phaser pedal would work well too.

    My feedback. You need to get a clip on microphone or something, the audio is low and has a mumble quality to it, guessing it's webcam audio? Your subscription ratio would be higher [10K range] if you had better audio.

    • @ChristopherCox
      @ChristopherCox  2 года назад

      Hi. Thank you for your feedback. This is an older lesson and you're right the audio is not as good. I now use a lapel mic and a stronger pc mic.So that issue should be fixed with my newer lessons. Also, I would recommend using headphones on the older videos. Other viewers have said this helps. Thanks.
