Lovely....
SO FAKEEEEEE VIDEO BECAUSE RUclips DIDNT EXIST IN 1998 dummies
So many 747s compared to today. Wild
Reed Campbell I
IKR 747s galore. Good times.
chinitonamoreno I hate the A380, the 747 is the true queen of the skies, no joke, the A380 is just a hideous atrocity meant to 1up the 747
@@Giratina1999 true. No doubt about that.
chinitonamoreno as a kid I used to sit by Dockweiler beach or the Palos Verdes Hills and watch the planes take off, until I moved in 2004-05 and the whole aviation landscape changed :( I’d seen tons of beautiful planes like these only to be overwhelmed by a sea of A380s. Fortunately lol I had a bet with my brother that we wouldn’t get an A380 on our trip to Norway/France , it went:
A330NEO, 747-400, 737
LA-SFO-Frankfurt-Bergen
737,757
Bergen-Oslo-CDG
A330,747-8
CDG-Frankfurt-LAX
HAHAHA he lost $5 on that bet
Watching 747’s will never get old. Absolutely no aircraft is more we elegant
That’s debatable when you look at the Concorde
I think we can both agree though that we'll likely never get to see the views this video got us again though
Nic s
The Concorde isn’t as beautiful as the 747 in my opinion.
the Boeing 777 is a beautiful airplane, super elegant!
@@amc6508 so is the 737-900
that awkward moment when most of the liveries from back then are better than the ones now
Ikr!
True to that.
Brandon Collins Sorry mate, didn’t mean to thumbs down your comment. Was trying to scroll down. You’re right about the liveries, especially British Airways.
Since they realize the paint make more weights and drags which resulting consume more fuel, especially plane which has full paint than just less painted or just white
@@Real_British I see now why JAL and Saudi planes are almost 100% white.
All Planes in here are Legends, it's sad for Concorde, but it's happen...
Budget: i am a joke to you?
Ben Vlogs pretty sure that’s fake news
Liveries used to be so unique and beautiful. Almost everyone had a creative livery. These days however, most liveries are so dull. Thankyou for this great video justplanes.
Since they realize the paint make more weights and drags which resulting consume more fuel, especially plane which has full paint than just less painted or just white
More than 1 color costs money to apply. Also something like a red stripe weighs 100lbs in paint, costs thousands of dollars over the lifetime of the aircraft to fly with excessive paint, because the red stripe is applied over the base white paint. Personally I thought the old polished aluminum, red/white/blue scheme of old American Airlines was the sleekest thing in the sky. They also saved $$$$ by having less than half the aircraft painted.
The Singaporean Airline 747 appeared on 4:16 crashed at Taiwan in 2000
York So oh ya
How do you know its the same one
9V-SPK Registration.
That 9V-SPK register confirmed that, aka SQ006 which crash on Taiwan 2 years later (since this video shows 1998)
What a sad moment,a plane with rare livery is crashed
Yonatan Kaplonov only one 747 in Singapore Airlines fleet was painted like that
Wow, amazing video yet again! at 4:20 that is 9V-SPK, The plane that crashed as SIA006
KarlosBricks 2 years before crash,,
so sad, the aircraft crash because take off on wrong runway..
Bout to say
It is...
Such a shame, the livery was beautiful.
Alexis Carroué Actually, Singapore Airlines put that livery on another 747 after that plane crashed
KarlosBricks I
British airways 747-400 G-CIVA is still flying!!! Amazing :-)
Kacper Montewka it isnt, it was sent to a airline in Africa then got scrapped in Mojave, the parts had disappeared prob of sent to a museum or something like that. G-CIVA was turned into another 747-400 but not the one shown in here
Dead now she retierd with 27 other 747 436s sad
4:40 Singapore Airlines 747-400 (9V-SPK) in Tropical Promotional Livery. The Aircraft involved in a crash before take off at the Taiwan Taoyuan Int'l Airport in Oct 2000
4:40 is an air France Concorde. it was the plane at 4:30 that was involved in a crash.
My goodness, the Battleship Grey United livery, Canadi>n Airlines, and MD-11's galore! What a treasure chest full of old airlines and aircraft :)
Canadian Plane Spotter well no one cares about unishit but other then that agree 100%
It is actually Canadi
4:17 RIP
RIP Windows Vista
Being a 90s kid, this is enthralling. I was both surprised and delighted at how many 747s were present. Next, the liveries - the hotch-potch of Thai, SAS, Varig, United in its famous battleship gray, Lufthansa, and Air Canada, all partners of Star Alliance at 5:12; the dark green canopy of Cathay Pacific; the glamorous-sounding Megatop of Singapore Airlines (whose 9V-SPK was destroyed in the SQ-006 tragedy), everything brings a rush of childhood memories. I was very surprised to see the Concorde as well, considering the restrictions on supersonic travel over land it had. Did Air France route it to Hong Kong via the Pacific?
Wow. It's really nice to see some of the old aeroplanes in action. I didn't know that the Concorde flew to Hong Kong
on charter flights
4:35 2 years later....
Never before seen or heard aircraft by me!
First, 1:37 United DHL!
Second, 3:08 is cool.
Third, 3:38 as a Northwest Airlines enthusiast and was a costumer, never knew they had this livery.
Fourth, 5:14 is probably one of the coolest or most unique livery.
Fifth, the one after previous.
Sixth, 6:27 JA...Z?
8:27, 7th
8th, 9:16 TradeWinds Cargo
Bonus! 0:12 seen but not heard.
1:37 that wasn’t United
UA 895 yep just realized, Continental.
Continental Micronesia to be exact ;)
Merpati used to be an aircraft in Indonesia, as a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia. But, it went bankrupt.
All those gorgeous 747s! The good old days
I've become addicted to the retro videos lately. Lots of planes/airlines you don't see anymore. It was more interesting then.
8:26 Wow, Merpati ever fly to HKG
Merpati Airbus A300 bro👍

I missed the Concorde a lot........
It's so funny to think that it's been over 20 years since KaiTak closed. I was there the last year and flew over the *New* HKI thinking it was so large in comparison. Amazing to watch the construction of not only the airport but the highway/bridge/train linking it with Kowloon.
3:10 I never heard of British Asia airways
Hussain Sumra it must be a subsidy of BA, I know KLM have their “KLM Asia” subsidiary
it was a subsidiary set up for BA to fly to taiwan at the time
mahzorimipod to avoid ban in China?
Sashok Sashok yeah, all airlines had to set up subsidies to fly to Taiwan. Or else they couldn’t fly to mainland China.
It is now klm asia airways
Concorde
Higi Hang one of the best plans to date

Wht is concorde doing there?
@@stephencox9615 It was back in time when supersonic traveling was still legal over Europe and Asia. AF's Concorde stopped flying CDG-HKG just after the law's announcement.
Back then airline had so many more bigger planes compared to having smaller planes today. Apart from emirates with it a380’s
Yeah, economics kinda started to become important :/
The a380 is ugly tho
You re right
0:27 Now that’s a tiny 747
It’s like a 100 series, earlier model, I’m kinda sad, you don’t see em anymore
Thats a B747SP
bestvideos123 isn’t the SP a cargo variant?
@@Giratina1999 no it's an plane made for the growing asian market
747SP, the choad of the 747 family lol
RIP Kai Tak 20 Years Anniversary... THAT was a cool airport
Hong Kong will never be the same without KaiTak and the British.
I still think they could of kept kai tak opem but as a regional airport
classicgamer 982 nah its a ferry terminal
classicgamer 982 any flight deemed “regional” is still “international” though.
Checkerboard Hill was the best thrill of my life... long live 13L
8:15 that awkward moment when I get reminded over and over again about how old I am getting. Philippine Airlines' current livery/logo has been in use since the year I was born...1986.
I'm 3 years younger than you but I know what you mean 😄
@@thefurbeastunderyourbed5012 Hahah
They still use this livery today especially on their Airbus A321neo and Airbus A350
Damn so many 747s. Wish they were still a common aircraft to find
I hope so...tho it will be less variants since some airlines decide to scrap their 747-400 series bcoz its already old..mostly see will see the 8i variat
Twin engines are the future
4:14 is that the aircraft that was involved in an accident in Taiwan. SQ006

When you realize that the terminal at HKG is just as modern today as it was back in the 1990s
Ah, the 90's...wonderful decade. My kingdom for a time machine.
P.S. Thanks for this. :)
P.P.S. LOVED that Concorde footage. :)
The aviation industry has changed so much
The most powerful airplanes on one place, oh my god I’m crying :’(
Miss so bad those good old days with precious unique liveries, and also all those 747s and DC-10s/MD-11s everywhere flying all around the world 😭😭
So many trijets and 747 classics. If I can born 10 years earlier, i probably have chance to fly on the tristar, DC-10, and those 747. Also the MD-11 and the classic swissair...
Lookback today, HKG is full of LCC carriers...
Either scrapped or converted into freighters, great liveries back in the day...
Historical spot for our flag carrier, Philippine Airlines. 🇵🇭✈️ "The heart of the Filipino."

commodore665 and it’s Lebombo, the 747 that flew over Ellis Park for the 1995 Rugby WC and the largest plane to land at Rand Airport
Singapore 006😭
This video is really cool. Btw those livery’s are better than today.
4:40 F-BVFC is the only Concorde that entered service on display at manufacturer (now Airbus) museum in Toulouse Musée Aeroscopia
. (Musée Aeroscopia
also has F-WTSB which was a testing/production aircraft but did not fly for AF or BA.)
Thank you for these beautiful pictures and videos
For ever the airplanes
old aircraft are just amazing !! love the old jet sounds..
There is so much joy of designing the airlines livery back then compare to now. And the mighty Queen 747 galore. What an era to live. Thanks for sharing!
So many great memories flying in and out of Hong Kong. I had even flown on the Singapore Airlines 747 at 4:16 min mark. As per says in previous post, this crashed in Taiwan. Very sad day. I had actually been in Taipei that morning before really bad weather hit. Flew to Singapore and then to Hong Kong in the evening.
5:13 you dont know who your flying, but since air Canada is at the front, I think that's the airline
Ok thanks for confirming
The 90s was the best decade for liveries
*The Snoop droop of the Concorde is so sharp that no aircraft dares to fly near it*
I miss MD-11😢
2:07 great to see the queen in the Malaysian airlines colours
I truly miss the old days of aviation
Great video. It shows that the airlines back then knew how to paint a plane.I miss those days.I flew to Hongkong twice in 1998 and managed to experience the old KaiTak landing on a Swissair 747-300 and MD-11.Amazing approaches with these planes. My next trip was then already to the new airport.I really miss KaiTak
wow, so many 747’s back then! They are now becoming rarer in this day and age.
What a wonderful collection of aircraft and liveries. It was nice to see the Canadian and United 747s.
crazy that just 20 years ago trijets were still a common sight at airports
Im in love with JAL old livery~
Love it too. Perfect 90s style
Okay, whoever made that Air Canada A340 livery was out of their minds. Just all the Star Alliance logos fit together until the United one.
Those years The 747 was so poppular
Love it! Thanks for uploading this one😀
This superb video bring back tones of memory from Kai Tak to CLK airport .
Many Boeing 747, MD-11 and Rare Concorde That Time.
8:15 Philippine Airlines with A Centennial Sticker
Beauty of aviation :)
Why is the 747 so rare these days? I only saw a cargo one once.
So much variety to compare with nowadays, and If the old airport was still open I'd be straight there with all my kit!
Remember my first landing at Kai tak , Spring 82 via Pan am . Pan am shaved of 30 ft from tail section of 747 to add fuel and hopefully make it non stop westbound from sfo. They called it the SP. United took over pan am route a couple of years later and new 747 series guaranteed no fuel stop westbound leg when jet stream winds not favorable. Lived in HKG several years in 80s and Also my hub for other travel through out Asia and sub. Flew in/out of there including new airport for 30 years.. I miss hkg and the that last right turn just at minimums.
Wow quite the archive! Definitely a throwback.
What's up with all the liveries on the plane at 5:12
Star Alliance livery
Those were the airlines that formed “star alliance” so they were promoting it on an a340
GTA40120 it was for all the airlines that bought the a342
I really hope you're joking
@@londonaviation6233 Nope. It was the Star Alliance special livery, with parts of liveries of the member airlines
Fantastic video ....the livery’s back then were a way better than they are currently....seeing an old tristar in their was great ....
Didn’t work out all so good for the last aircraft, the Ansett-Australia 747 succumb to damage on linding At Sydney airport before the airline went broke & the aircraft was re-leased back to Cathay I think ....sad day down under went Ansett went into liquidation
4:41 The real queen of the skies

Those are my childhood, I'm getting old now.
Man, widebody DC-10s/MD-11s we’re everywhere and no stupid A380s were around to soil the scenery, I truly hate the A380, the 747 forever will be the wide body king of the skies
Cool! All my childhood memories back!
So many great memories. Amazing!
Continental Micronesia!!! Wow what a throwback !
Long before the A380 crashed the party and got the cops called...
Whenever I planespot KLAX, I just see those ugly pieces of shit everywhere
@@Giratina1999 Oh instead of attacking the 747's brother look at those ugly plastic Dreamliners infesting international airports
dispatchnig vomitory the A380 can never be called a brother to the 747. Im fact, it is a competitor. You’re not a true aviation geek if you say that.
So many 747's. Sad that most of them in this photo have been scrapped. As 4 flights a day in a 747 have been replaced by 5-7 flights in something smaller like an A330, 777, 787, etc the same thing has happened at smaller airports.
At my local airport in Nashville(BNA), you rarely see anything larger than a 737 or A320, stuff like the 767, 757, A330, have been moved out with more frequent flights in the narrow body aircraft. Lots of those Embraer and Bombardier jets as well at my airport.
Aaron Bays Biggest passenger jet we get in my city is the A320.....:(. However, we do get an insane amount of 757’s and an occasional DC10/MD11 from UPS and Fedex, as well as 767’s and MD80’s from Amerijet. Even the occasional 727 if you can believe it!
THIS A GREAT VIDEO I AM SUBSCRIBEING
A Philippine Airlines 747, what a beauty!
Wow I wonder if any of the airframes in this video are still flying in some capacity today.
The old 'ETOPS 120' days...
4:32, that aircraft was brand new and crashed just months after being put into service, that is some very rare footage of it!
4 and 3 engine aircrafts still ruled back in 98, but their reign would soon begin to decline and the generic twin jets would take over
Jorge Ragaglia I don't know why they use four engined aircraft when there are three engined?
Lovely.
Very busy airport
Use to fly on Cathay Pacific’s 747 into HK as a kid each year! Really miss the 747…. Shame CX modern crews aren’t as friendly as back in the day.
8:28 merpati airlines
Makasih mas
5:13 best crossover of all time
Look how many 747's on 2000, Boeing was the king, look nowadays...
Well, to be fair, all four-engined passenger jets (three engines are already pretty much gone) are on the way out. The A340 and A380 will last a bit longer yet...but their fates are already sealed, as well. They just can't compete with the modern twins like the Triple 7, 787, A350 etc.
I guess they look for long range aircrafts..set aside capacity
If there were 747s everywhere today we would get bored of seeing it everyday
In today's market the 747 and the A380 doesn't make sense anymore as companies are ditching the "Hub and Spoke" model. The increase of the A320/B737 shows that Airlines are more interested in a "Point to Point" model in which flying small planes is very profitable.
The sign of the times!
4:39, this Singapore Airlines 744 was the same one involved in the Flight 006 crash on October 31, 2000 at Taipei. Registration is 9V-SPK
8:37 ZS-SAN, Boeing 747-244 of South African Airways in old 1980s livery. ZS-SAN is now on display at the SAA Museum in Rand, South Africa (in the current livery)
South African Airways now uses Airbus A340 to Hong Kong
So much diversity in both liveries and planes.... now I only see white fuselages and a320s 30s or 737s and 777s....
SO MANY trijets!!!
Perth Plane Spotting HD ITS HEAVEN! 😀
Wow that A340 star alliance livery is dope!
