In Seoul South Korea 18 years ago I was walking home from the subway station when an American man caught up to me and started walking at pace with me. He said...don’t look back but there is a man (Korean) following you. I think you should join me for a coffee at the next place and once he is gone then you can safely go to your home...I will never forget his act of protecting me and for the fact of his situational awareness which most likely saved my life.
There’s a group of K-pop looking teens who took advantage of the fact that K-pop is now popular. They would travel to poorer countries in South East Asia and rape the young girls there. You can look like an innocent K-pop star yet be a violent rapist. This is happening in the Philippines with Korean foreigners.l
Be aware of your situation and surroundings. Don’t play on your phone while walking alone at night. Carry pepper spray or a weapon of some sort. Wear comfortable shoes with no heels. Don’t rely on someone saving you all the time. You know the risks. Minimize them as much as possible. As a man who has faced violence on the streets. You have to understand it can happen to you too. But since I was ready for it? I’m able to type this today. I often wonder what color his eye patch is.
UPDATE ON THIS CASE: The victim requested that DNA testing be REDONE on her pants instead of underwear and it matched! He will now be in jail for 20 years instead of just 7 !!! (The court tried for 35 and got 20)
The way he used the “I’m drunk excuse” is so ridiculous because he literally did a perfectly coordinated spinkink that knocked her unconscious, yet somehow he “didn’t know what he was doing”? It’s obvious he knew exactly what he did and felt no remorse. He even bragged about it to his friends. Horrible. *edited to fix a small typo
Being a women is so scary. I was followed by a man for like a good 30-40 minutes and when I asked an older man with his wife for help he said “Just tell him to stop.” I was taken aback. Thankfully his wife was kind enough to tell me to stay with them until the police arrived.
@@FocusedFighter777That honestly depends whre you live. I think I heard about 1 single attack on a woman in my 30+ years of living here, and that was still when soviet communist party ruled the country.
Yes it takes good men to look out for our women. It’s shouldn’t be a men vs women like the creator is trying to promote. She’s basically saying the law shouldn’t be blind and that killing a women should have a bigger punishment. She lost me on this one, especially since males are victim to violent crime at a higher rate than females. Murder is murder and rape is rape and it’s wrong no matter the victim to culprit. And the fact she’s saying a schizophrenic’s POV on women is the norm shared by all men is insulting. She even doubled down and said “I’m not making this a man vs women thing but if your male and have a opinion different from mine then shove it and go look in the mirror” is extremely narcissistic. I love women, would fight wars and die for the girls in my life but she lost me in this video. Feminism should be about equality and not superiority.
As a SA survivor I just burst into tears listening to the introduction and the talk about the 7 unaccounted minutes. So much cruelty, so much violence, so much evil was done. I've experienced this type of violence first hand and my heart just ACHES for this victim. We can't even walk home without fear of someone committing potential violence against us. Edit- I just want to say thank you to those who commented their empathy, sympathy and absolutely kind words. Attempted murder should have the same sentencing as murder. Ok, they didn't die, but you still had the intention of killing them! This should count too
This should be premeditated murder. Atempted murder is when you want to kill someone and then you back out. This makes no sense to me. It's like everyone was agains this poor woman.
@@purple66666 true like if I point a gun at someone but don't shoot or miss the shot or gun gets stuck then that's attempted murder...but when I shot the bullet at someone's chest but the victim didn't die should not be considered 'attempted'...cause the victim was shot with the intention to kill...but just cause the victim managedto survive suddenly it's 'attempted murder'
“Without the victim’s testimony” Welp, there you have it guys! Murderers can’t be convicted because the victim can’t be there to testify. RELEASE THE MURDERS ON TO THE MASSES
there should be a law that makes it so that if the doctor of the victim (or emts) states that the victim was in a state of unconsciousness they should be treated as UNABLE to consent and a fine. There’s probably something like that but it’s probably mostly used for people intoxicated. And intoxicated vs straight up unconscious but sober is completely different.
I saw the same excuse on a close CP case.... I hate the "justice" system, once you realize with how much you can get away make sense why there's still so much crime...

@@chaoswitch1974Sadly, it could be both. SA is about control and asserting power. So...my theory is, he felt insecure because she didn't act like he expected (admiring him or submissive) and -in his twisted psychopathic mind- he needed to humiliate and dominate her to regain control (in his twisted view).
My friend was killed in 2015 at 22 y/o by her husband because she "Was caught getting out of the house when he was out partying". Stabbed over a dozen times (she was approximately 100 pounds). He got 9 years because "He showed remorse"...got out on weekends after 3 years, got out on probation after 6 years - attempted on doing the same with his new girlfriend. A guy (only a few weeks ago) live streamed the murder of his wife because she dared applying for a restraining order because of "a few slaps". Her last words before she got shot in the head on camera were "I was scared of you". Only a few days ago a woman got bitten on her face by her ex husband in broad daylight. While a stranger defended her, the ex said "That's my woman. I can do as I please". I myself woke up one too many times in the middle of the night with my pants suddenly down or fingers in where they do not belong while I was sleeping and unable to consent. His excuse "It has been days - I couldn't help it". Not all men...but oh boy - there are enough of them. And the damage the wrong ones do, the right ones spend a life time and then some, to put together...if we even live to tell the tale.

This literally happened to me in Seoul getting off the subway, I felt him from going up the stairs from the station. When I realized I was getting closer to my friend’s place. I turned into a shop and called my friend’s husband to meet me (she was at work and I went out for the day to sightsee until she was off work). The guy stayed out there as I waited and I only turn to look at him when my friend’s spouse met me, that’s when I met his eyes and he stood there for a while before turning away. He looked confused and surprised at the same time. After, I told my friend about it and they said they won’t say it’s common, but it happened enough to not be shocked. It was the weirdest experience, especially since I am a dark skin black American woman. Im kind of invisible during the day in Korea, definitely never thought to get that type of attention in Korea. I’m glad my spidey senses were still on alert then to notice and my friend’s husband was home playing LOL

Look, this is not a Korean issue, this is a worldly issue. Point blank period. An African American woman in America was recently attacked for turning down a man's advances. I heard one woman commented and said she just goes ahead and gives the guy her number so she won't be attacked. But why should I have to give a man my number if I don't want to?
Don’t forget the incident when a woman got attacked while out with her big friend group in public, outside after saying no politely. I think he shot her or hit her with a brick. I can’t remember but it was horrible
No one presented this as a "Korean issue?." Korea is one of the safest countries in the world, things that are violent or random happen way more frequently in the west, but she just said they are on the rise there and gave the name that apparently was given for crimes that are so mysterious and random
So... They found her completely disheveled with her underwear half on and she was bleeding from her rectum for a month, but she seemed totally fine and walked normally throughout ALL the CCTV footage PLUS the doctors couldn't get good DNA samples because they were trying to save her life. So like... Do they (the court/judges) think she somehow unzipped her own pants and took a single leg out of her panties just to put her pants back on before or after she was assaulted? Like... If she was fighting for her life, at what point do they think she had the time to put her clothes back on like that??? Idk. I get that some of it is "circumstantial evidence" but look at the portfolio of concrete evidence around all the other things. Like, I'm not a zoologist but if an animal quacks, can fly, can swim, lays eggs, has a bill for a mouth, has short legs, orange webbed feet and waddles, I'm PRETTY inclined to assume the animal is a fucking duck. As humans, we're intelligent enough to deduce what happened without having to always SEE the crime happen. I cannot believe people want to "debate" about what happened because there's no video evidence. How disgusting.
I wonder how majority of judiciary behaves like specially abled human ..when it comes to crime... although they portray themselves as highly educated smart wise experienced human of the society 😂

Just because I walked by and didn't smile. Wasn't in a bad mood at all.
As a man, I don't see how any decent man could see this as women vs. men cases Honestly, these (and so many of the cases covered by this channel) are very clearly men vs. women cases. So many of these would never had happened if the victims were not women and it's absolutely infuriating to see how little women are regarded around the world (including where I live). The amount of victim blaming, direct targeting, and the lack of support from authorities and the so-called justice system are nauseating. I don't know how to help. I wish I did. But it's difficult to know what to do when your very presence could be enough to trigger someone who has been a victim of a man. I feel tremendously for the suffering women have to endure. At best, I can empathize but (even as a man who has been the victim of SA) my own position of privilege is such that I can never truly understand the atmosphere of fear that women have to live in.
Thank you for saying that. There is something you can do. Be that protector when you see something with your own eyes. As someone who has been assaulted I'd much rather someone try to help them to watch. It's awesome of you to understand that you could be triggering to some in certain situations but your empathy along with your respect will be respected. The women in your life are lucky to have someone who holds them in high regard
No, men are afraid women will get other men to gang rush them. You know nothing about the real world to say something so stupid. There is always some simp looking to fight. Guys who say "you got a problem" when a foul woman runs her mouth insulting and provoking people in ways men simply wouldn't because it's a death wish. Then when a man is provoked they have to consider fighting an entire room of people plus the police. Women, especially in the west, are not afraid of acting like a (very immature) man 99% of the way. And it shows. "Not all women/men" goes without saying, please don't be daft.
The first case: did the man live in the same apartment building as the victim? If not, I don't understand how you can argue that this wasn't a premeditated crime, when he knew the exact location of the blind spot with no CCTV cameras.

This isn't meant to attack OP, but I think it's important to clarify that rape kits aren't exactly "simple". Sometimes I hear people cast doubt on victims who decline one without fully understanding what the process entails. Other people who are well meaning and want to help might urge the victim to do it in order to bring the attacker to justice, but in reality it's a very lengthy, invasive full body exam that puts the victim through the same trauma they just recently experienced. (warning about the details) Imagine having to stand fully nude as examiners swab nearly every inch of your body, from your mouth to your nails, to your genitals and rectum. Your pubic hair is combed for evidence and even plucked. It takes hours to document every injury and your emotional state at a very vulnerable time. And to top it off you are rarely, if ever, given your clothes back once it's been sent for testing. Yes the evidence may help, but the most important thing is to listen to the victim's needs and give them back some sense of autonomy.
I don't believe for 1 second that the first guy was drunk. He knew what he was doing, he planned it. He sat on that street waiting for someone to harm, very likely he chose the first one that looked at him but didn't care to keep looking. Imagine being so stuck on yourself that you attack an innocent woman because she doesn't look at you like you're special. She became his target simply because she was tired and just wanted to get home. She deserves so much better and this judge needs to reevaluate how they are treating victims verses perpetrators. Getting molested or raped is very traumatic it never goes away no matter how long ago it was or happened.
He only got 12years initially..then the public demanded a higher punishment..they all thought he would get 35 years. But he only got 20years. Here at my country we just had a case last month about a girl that went partying with some friends and drank too much. A "friend" of hers called her an uber and let her brother know she was going home, but the brother didnt see the message because he fell asleep. The girl passed out in the car and after they arrived, the driver tried to get her inside but wasnt able to, so he left her sitting against something at the sidewalk. The girl didnt last 6 minutes passed out at the street, some guy immediately grabbed her and brought her to an abandoned field, and raped her. When Steph said about the drinking culture at South Korea, but then complemented saying typically women dont pass out from drinking at the streets, all I could think about was that the victim of that case wasnt even able to be left alone for 10 whole minutes, the moment someone laid eyes on her, all they could think about was abusing her.
If I was the uber driver I wouldn't leave her there wth why would he just leave a drunk girl on the sidewalk like that. At least take her to a police station
@@Forevagabby yes, so many people failed her... the friend who didnt get into the uber with her knowing she had drunk a lot, the brother who didnt think to stay awake even though he was the only one at home while his sister was out late, the driver who just left her there, and of course the monster who assaulted her. The saddest thing is, within 6 minutes she was taken away, and there was a hospital within a 6 minute drive from her house. I dont really have the full details, but makes me think if all those people were men, including the friend. People do say that the only culprit is the guy who assaulted her, which is true, the other people didnt really have the responsability to take care after the drunk girl, but they could have, and it would have taken near the same time it took for her life to be ruined.

Not really, there's people in this world who would targeting you simply because they seen you weaker than them. Especially in the place who have weak law in the criminal case like this.
I'm more concerned with the fact that this isn't a one off. Weren't we all talking about the "knock out" game that was a fad a few years back? ANYBODY today can become a victim of random violence, because that just seems to be the culture mankind has been cultivating.
The fact that people with "alcohol intoxication" are given less sentence and people with medical condition are sentenced to longer jail time. The alcohol intoxication clause is just unbelievable. I hope that changes
i’ve heard of this case and i am of the firm belief he assaulted her after he dragged her off camera and sodomized her. this poor woman, he was following her and targeted her because she was alone and most likely drunk after a long night out. i disagree with the laws that protect drunk individuals who commit crimes and lighten their sentences. a person makes the choice to drink, they should be held accountable for any acts they commit after that. for example, assault or drunk driving.
I fully agree. People also tend to forget that alcohol does not make you a different person it lowers your boundaries. If you could never even imagine to hurt someone when sober you would not hurt them drunk either. Alcohol just makes you forget the consequences.
I completely agree but that same sentiment can be used against victims. Well they made the choice to drink so they should be responsible for getting assaulted. I have actually seen people use this sentiment and it's heartbreaking

One day, Percy found out about the cheating. He ended things with the girl. The same day, he went fishing with his friends when the cop stopped him and put him into the police van. The cop and his friends beat my cousin to the point of Him almost dying before throwing him in a jail cell. There was another guy in the jail cell that tried to help him. Percys mother tried to see him in jail and they didn't allow her to. The guy in the jail cell sent a message to percys mother that he needed to talk to her and that he has something he needs to tell her about Percy urgently. A few hours later, my cousin was found hanging in the cell. The cops told my aunty that he committed suicide but both his legs and arms were broken. How could he have tied the rope? The entire thing was a cover up. Both the guy in the cell and the cop disappeared and his death was ruled as a suicide. It's so scary how men can become so conditioned to believe woman are not human to them and to act so evil against them. Society needs to change and it feels so helpless everytime these crimes happen.
Sadly this is common around the world but there are degrees of how horrible the men are in different countries. In the case of South Korea, they view women as their property the misogyny in Korea is horrendous.
Maybe stop encouraging women to take over masculine roles while leaving men to the wayside --- and at the same time telling them they can take care of themselves, all their problems are their own fault, and if they are helpless or vulnerable then they're not real men (and thus are unsexed). Also basically telling men to never challenge women. Women from non-western countries think the west is so great and progressive compared to traditional countries --- until they don't have a functioning family unit, or a respectable man, and they don't understand why.
Well, there's a lot of media that treats women like objects, pretty much in all cultures that have a global influence. Including the majority of porn, which men tend to watch more of, from a younger age. I can imagine that fucks with their developing brain. Add a patriarchal culture that is dominant in that area, and you have a loaded gun.
You know it's not really an "I couldn't tell you" case when the motive is obviously sexual assault and misogyny. Also, it's obvious what happened in the 7 minutes, he attacked her and knocked her out so that he could easily SA her without her fighting back. She was just a convenient vulnerable target. He was obviously playing out a fantasy.
As another Korean, I give the utmost sympathy and respect to the victim that chose to exit recently under tremendous pain and trauma caused by this horrendous event. My question is: how high on the psychopathy scale would the judge score? This is outrageous. What kind of a system defends perpetrators and not victims? Insane.
Here in California, criminals get so much leeway and protection to the detriment of the public. The public is split between "they didn't know better! It's how they were raised. They had to feed their families!" and "do you even care about victims and public safety? Lawlessness leads to more lawlessness, and these light sentences create repeat offenders and more victims." And not that it matters because the public can't do anything about it anyway. The rich politicians live separate from the criminals they release, but appear on media and talk about how compassionate their policies are.
And when we wanna keep ourselves safe and assume it’s all men, men get mad. But if we don’t, the dangerous men hurt us. We can’t do anything. this is a clown statement using this depraved individual to cast a negative light on all men, this guy is 1 out probably 100,000 who would never do such thing. This individual also assaulted other men, its just behavior of a psycho
You are amazing and speak straight from the heart. I am in awe of the stories that you share from other countries that we are not aware of. Keep up the good work.
They literally exist for me the first women was created because God saw that Adam was lonely and he said it is not good for man to be alone. Of course I don’t agree with what happens it’s fucking discusting when men abuse women but I think women are meant for men though i really do.
Oh yeah, and it’s way worse than these cases alone. You should watch some of her other videos. 10 months of probation for the SA of a disabled minor is beyond flawed, it’s borderline archaic.
It's more rooted in a general culture based on power dynamics (based on age, gender, rank, etc) and way of thinking bleeds through into the justice system.. This is obviously changing with each passing generation, but we are still currently at a point where a lot of the people in power are older men who grew up learning that the well being and reputation of men, especially high ranking men, are literally more important than that of women. IMO the male-only military draft is a major aspect of sexism that continues to persist in Korean society. The male half of the population and female half of the population are essentially split off for the first couple of years of their early twenties and during that time are taught different things about how to behave and what their societal roles are.
I’m schizophrenic and the thought of harming someone makes me feel sick. Thank you for clearing up the misconceptions about schizophrenics (& other mental illnesses) for “being violent” & preventing the spread of stigma. :)
Some are violent though. I think it's unethical to assign misogyny to someone who was apparently the worst case of schizo the doctor had ever seen. The two cases in this video should not have been discussed together imo.
@@zakjones7101 Ohh don’t get me wrong, there absolutely are. However- you can be both a misogynist & schizophrenic murder. He blamed women for his crimes which were simultaneously wrapped in his delusions. That is still misogyny, even if you are sick.
@@wrennie658 but he's literally delusional so it's wrong to blame societal attitudes toward women rather than his mental illness. This is literally the same as the 'violent video games create serial killers' argument. No some people are prone to becoming serial killers and something just triggers it.
@@zakjones7101 I think you misunderstood what I said. He can be both delusional, a misogynist, and a murderer. I do think there was misogyny in this case- since his targets were women who he deemed “in his way” ect.
@@wrennie658 I'm talking about what was said in the video. If a scirzophrenic person murdered someone and said 'God told me to do it' do you think it's fair to call that murder religiously motivated? It seems pretty clear to me that he followed her with the intent of raping her. So he attacked her, left her unconscious, and raped her during those 7 minutes away from the cameras. Maybe that’s not common in Korea, but here in Brazil it happens all the time! 😢

Honestly its terrifying how normalized the fear is for women to do anything alone that it's not seen as something that needs to be fixed, it just exists and we have to live with and no the rules.. make sure you're not alone, hold keys between your fingers, lock all doors and windows, carry paper spray, have a guard dog, dont tell a man no, dont dress provoking. ETC..
this dude was clearly HATEFUL a kick like that, he wanted to empty his hatred onto her watching it you feel it also this women identify as men BS creats more unsafe places imagine having that thing in your only spaces you should be safe
Lucky for me, even though I’m not old enough to have one, my sister gave me her old taser. Edit: no I don’t, my mom threw it away when she re did my room ☠️
@ohara. How do y'all transphobes manage to make everything about being anti trans? Do you actually think predatory men would go through the trouble of pretending they are female identifying to enter women's spaces? They wouldn't.
Exactly! The authorities are always warning Women not to go out alone and shouldn't go out at all after dark and yet they say nothing about the scumbags, they don't say "Attacking Women and Children makes you a filthy coward, not a man! If we catch you even following a Woman we are going to put you in prison for life! They same absolutely nothing, basically saying loud and clear that Men are vile creatures, that's how they are and nothing can be done about it and so if you don't like it... it's up to you to protect yourself. People are saying it's only some men who commit these atrocities, Judging by the number of Women and Children that are being raped and killed every single day! It proves that it's not "only some" men, even the seemingly nicest guy turns into a monster when you reject his sexual advances. Poor young lady 💔
I feel really bad for the victim... I want to accompany her day and night just to make her feel she's not alone. I can't imagine the panic attacks, the overthinking, the physical pain, the insomnia she's experiencing. 😢
This case reminded me of one that recently happened in my country. It was around 7 am, a woman was walking to work through a residential area, a man is walking behind her and suddenly he attacks her. She yells "I have nothing on me!" and he stabs her several times and leaves her there. She starts to walk home, she's losing lots of blood and she's in a lot of pain. She died that day, it was her birthday. It was all caught in cctv, the guy was later arrested. It was presumed that he killed her because he wanted to steal her phone and wallet and when she told him she didn't have anything on her, he got mad and stabbed her because he couldn't get anything from her. But news outlets have already reported that the victims phone and other belongings where there at the crime scene, meaning he wasn't interested in stealing her stuff, it was also discovered he had a good paying job and had NO need to steal anything from anyone. Her family have already stated that they aren't related to the attacker, investigations have confirmed this. This guy didn't know the victim in any form, he killed her just because he wanted to. He was mad that day for whatever reason and decided to take her anger out on a vulnerable woman walking alone. There's already a lot of discontent in my country in how gender based homicides are dealt with, many times there's never any justice served and women have started marching and protesting because we're just tired of never feeling safe. I wish women could just exist without fear, but it feels like we can't be safe anywhere.
Hold up. Dissociative amnesia seems like an overkill explanation her not remembering anything. The whole thing started with her getting clobbered in the back of the head. She was still semi-conscious before getting kicked again before going fully out, but it's extremely normal with something like that to have no memory after the initial hit even if you're not out after the first hit... It's not a psychological phenomenon, it's just what happens when your brain gets clocked. It doesn't really matter, I'm just confused as to why anybody felt like that needed an explanation beyond the obvious.
Usually because the "law" needs a very specific excuse as to why the victim is actually a victim, for example if she was even the tiniest bit conscious, everyone in the courtroom would twist it beyond recognition till it eventually became "consent", not to mention not everyone has the "pass out" reaction, infact most people don't pass out, and instead get a rush of adrenaline so they can fight or flee, but after such a severe and sudden attack to a vulnerable part of her temple most people would knock out, it's just people in a courtroom usually go to college for law, not common sense or medical knowledge
Because being human is so depressing. Men suffer from depression and suicide at rates insanely higher than women. This is a bad human issue, not a gender one
@@blinkanimals9720men have higher sui rates bc they're more likely to use more violent ways of dying, not because they're more depressed or have more issues than women. please, for the love of god, stop trying to downplay women's issues by derailing it to talk about men. i'm sick of having to cater our conversations around men and their feelings. the fact the most you have to worry about is dying by your own hand and trying to say that is even comparable to the issues women face is hilarious. please stop. please.
It makes me sad that you have to make sure men's feelings aren't hurt by pointing out a few examples of what regularly happens to women. We, as a society, worry more about men's comfort than women's safety.

This is ACTUALLY a gender-based crime. * - This is a woman not wanting to smile 24/7, and a man getting mad becos of itー to the point of almost killing the woman. - This is rape.

People do this to men too. I got SAd by a woman cause she thought I liked her. If I defended myself the cops would have thought I attacked her even with me being the one bleeding. People are just insane sex be damned. I still have the scars and they still hurt and reopen 8 years later.

You said her doctor testified about her injuries. What about the hospital? Why didn't they do a rape kit? Or at least a thorough exam? She clearly was injured in the genital region. I don't understand how the cops could say, "We can't prove SA" when they LITERALLY could prove it. That's so infuriating.
You didnt watch the video or payed attention huh? You truly do have the brain of a woman. She said they couldn't do a test on that because they were so busy trying to stabalize and save her life
Patriarchal society where they didn’t want to find out further as they blame the woman somehow. They look for excuses to find a reason that she must have asked for it. It’s disgusting.
Same. It took me a long time to come to terms with the repeating dream, the fact that I knew what sex felt like my whole (remembered) life, starting to masturbate many times a day at age 10, associating shame, degradation, and being forced with being turned on, engaging in very risky sexual behaviors, not being able to assert oneself when not wanting to engage in sex at all... all the signs are there, but I can't remember anything, I only have the dream. I believe that I was 3 or 4 based on the location of the dream. I looked at my daughter at that age and my heart just shattered, and I can't tell you the fear I feel for my baby girl. I don't fully trust ANYBODY and would be heartbroken but never dumbfounded if someone close to us hurt her.
I feel this in my heart. My mother hid it, my brother did it, and everyone else just looked the other way for over 5 yrs. I still have trouble going around my brother, and my relationship with my mother is toxic and devolving. I'm sorry you know that pain, that you never had that familial security. With therapy and a good support system it can get better.❤️🩹
A case like this happened in Brazil (?) too. A guy followed this woman until the apartment hall and waited for her to call the elevator and then punched her head from the back. She falls unconscious on the floor and he takes...her phone. She had cranial traumatisms and was in bad shape because she hit the concrete floor with her head.
This story breaks my heart because us women we don’t know when we are safe.. Women are more likely to be harassed, SAed etc. Men experience it too but statistically women get it on a daily. The attack was premeditated When I heard it on the podcast I was devastated and the fact that his sentence was short was pathetic. His behaviour was disgusting. I love how you spoke about his history as well. t
Not really. It's literally equal. They don't use SA or the R word when it happens to men by women. Man on man is called the R word. When it's done by women it's called " forced to penetrate" look up that stats. Men are at the for front door violence. Men faces violent crimes more than women. When it happens to men it does not make the news
looking at the title makes me question how evil someone could actually be i love the fact that stephanie tells stories from different countries to bring awareness to not so "popular" cases.
My dad and I were watching this one together and he was like any man who think a woman owes him anything is and will never be a man. My dad has four daughters and sometimes violence on women affect him more than myself or my sisters. B/c as women, sadly we’ve learned to live with the fear. So my dad who is someone that is very careful and alert b/c he was once a victim of violence, struggles so much knowing that this is what women all over the world live with. And 9/10 their government or Justice system fails them. Thank you for sharing these stories, and talking about the victims. I hope one day the world will be safer and kinder to us, until then we keep fighting for each other❤

That 7 minutes can never be taken back. Like I can’t imagine and don’t want to imagine what he did to her. He knew what he was doing that’s why he took her to a blind spot where there’s no camera. That 7 minutes is going to haunt her. The trauma she will have to face. I wish her recovery and for her to stay strong.
My sister the other day was walking her dog in her quiet neighborhood, she said a young man was walking in her direction and she moved over to let him pass while holding her dog. Very similar to the first story. He says hey to her and she nods and continues walking. She makes a turn not too long after and after a while of walking up one street she slips and looks around to see if anyone saw and didn’t see anyone. A few minutes later a loose dog running past her makes her turn around again and there’s the man she let pass her behind her. She grabbed her dog and kept walking and made a sudden to to go down a stairwell that connects to another street below. She flys down and kept a fast paste going down the street and looking behind her to see if he’s following, he was. She just sprinted home after, too afraid the man would find out where she lived
Yes, this stuff happens more times than I can count. I only tell my female friends now because disappointingly, but male friends thought I was exaggerating (even though they've known me for years and would believe me about anything else). So I avoid telling them so I don't have to resent them. Anyway, glad you believed your sister.
Just last month I noticed a guy was following me from the train station.. I was too scared to even think of going anywhere but home. I was approached by a female neighbour the next day who told me that guy was filming me (probably some weird ass fetish). Knowing he knows where I live makes me very uncomfortable. But thankfully I don't live by myself at least.
i read about this story a while ago and the fact that they didn’t want to think that it was SA and didn’t check properly is sick and the guy didn’t attack her because she gave him a dirty look clearly the police had to know that he had been following her for blocks and hiding behind cars when she turned around
This isn’t the first crime in SK that I hear about but what surprises me is SK’s ability to do a poor job at almost everything… This is unfortunate for the victim, being a women in this world is such a struggle.
Being a woman is exhausting…it’s true. I think all the time, wow, that could’ve been me. I used to go out every weekend to bars/clubs. I had some scary incidents, but nothing life threatening…and the first case? We might as well never leave the house. It’s all so terrifying.
I just want to comment on your point that the schizophrenia person's delusions stem from some sort of reality or "that they don't come out of thin air". My Dad was diagnosed schizophrenia in the 90's. Some of his delusional thoughts were normal fears, but on steroids. Then there were delusional thoughts that had no reality. My Dad would not eat any food in the town where my parents lived in because he believed they were poisoning him. At one point he thought my Mom was poisoning him. I do appreciate your compassion in the beginning when you were talking about his diagnosis. Taking care of someone diagnosed schizophrenia, and loving them is the hardest thing our family ever went through. Thank you for all the research and compassion you put into all your videos.

This reminded me of a gender-based homicide that happened in my neighborhood. Especially the part about how women can't reject men without potentially fearing for their lives. A few years back, in 2016, my neighborhood and the entire city was rocked with a horrible crime. Caroline Nosal worked at a local grocery store with a man named Christopher O'Kroley. They shortly became friends, but not too far after, she would be shot dead in the parking lot and her murderer was the man she had been friends with. He started having feelings for Caroline, and she didn't like him back. He sent her a bunch of explicit, horrible messages and then she told him not to talk to her anymore. She tried to get him fired, and he finds out, he shoots her in the parking lot. He did get life in prison, but it's a horrifying reminder of how women are treated in modern day society. Rest in peace Caroline.
men think is ok to s3xualize their women friends... in fact most men befriended with a women for a potential mate... if you refuse their s3xual advance, they will stop being friend with you... the friendship was all a lie to cover up their nasty thought... there is true friendship between opposite gender but most of them have a high chance of a male fantasize about their female friend which is not great for a sustainable friendship... so be careful who you think your friend is... they probably won't treat you as their friend

As a foreign woman who has lived in Korea for the past decade, I am without words. I just finished watching your episodes about the airforce case, two sisters case, and now this case, and I've always considered South Korea to be an extremely safe place in terms of violent crime, but you've kind of opened my eyes to the fact that this country isn't necessarily safer for women - it is likely just full of silent victims who don't report their assaults due to Korea being ruled by authority figures who not only laugh in the face of sexual assault victims, but who literally see it as an inconvenience to them. In all three of these cases you discussed, the CORE issue is not actually the perpetrators - it is the AUTHORITY that protects the perpetrators. I can guarantee you that the amount of sexual assault occurring in Korea would plummet if hypothetical perpetrators had any reason to believe that their crimes will be taken seriously by the powers that be. Every time a case like this happens, every time the news reveals a rapist getting slapped on the wrist, a slew of new perpetrators will be emboldened. Shame on the police. Shame on the military. Shame on the entertainment industry. Shame on the executive branch. Shame on any office of authority who gives paychecks and power to men who see women as objects who dare not inconvenience a man. Shame on any person in a position of power who BLATANTLY denies or minimizes clear evidence of a horrific crime. I love living here but my heart is truly breaking for the countless women (and men) who have buried their trauma inside because the alternative is having society mock them and torment them until the point of suicide while the authority figures let them off because an "important" man's reputation needs to have priority over a victim's dignity. I love Korea with all of my heart. I am married to a Korean man and he is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. This country can do better for its people. This country needs to do better.
Your response is wonderful. You acknowledge how big the problem is and ways that the situation might be improved, and you also give your reasons for thinking this is the exception more than the rule. Thank you for directing your energy rightly!
Some of us in Korea joke cell phones and laptops have it safer than us women. They sure don’t steal cuz they know they will be caught and punished thoroughly but they will attack and SA and cam us cuz well, now you know.
unfortunately, it has really dark sides. it was traumatizing to grow up as women in korea. as women in korea, there is the first trauma, the attack, and second trauma is, no one really cares, even the law. the normalized violence against women..so, people would say yes that's bad, because it's common sense. but don't really help or care when women get violence in public, and even shame victim why would you go to places(bar, club, cafe, whatever) to get harassed..etc. it was shocking to grow up with all this. and most of women can relate to this. i couldn't live there with good mental health, and still traveling between countries. i really hope it's get better, heart crusing to feel there's always gonna be young girls as victim, but seems like it will take a long time.
Well it also has a cultural aspect. There's a saying in korea that goes 'there's a reason for that to happen'. Sounds normal but the context here can't really be translated. That saying is used to villify victims of any type of bullying. I myself heard that from a TEACHER in high school. Around that time I attempted self exit, failed. And several more times after that. I graduated "k-high 🙄" over a decade ago and the impact all the bullying had on me is still taking its toll. It all started when I was a 2nd grader who just came back from US after a year. I got mocked because my korean was ever so slightly off. It snowballed from there. I am outta here in the next few years. I recommend you do the same for yourself or your kids(if you have any).
I don't think that the authority seeming to favor perpetrators is greater problem than perpetrators themselves? But universally, not just in Korea, lack of justice for women (due to the fact that much violence against women happens in a he said she said situation behind closed doors) does embolden abusers
Regardless if he was drunk or not he completely changed the direction of this poor girls life. She will never live a normal life again and she may never live the life she wouldve wanted for herself. And he doesnt want to take responsibility after lying about being drunk. Insane
It’s so frustrating that crimes against women don’t have major consequences in some countries, and men need to be educated that women are not there only for them to do ad they please like you mentioned Stephanie. So sad, may all the victims rest in peace.
Why aren't their brothers or fathers doing something on their own? It's Biblical by the way, and especially when their is no justice or protection from the State.
little rant here: i am terrified for my safety from men. i really dislike it when men approach me in a "suggestive" way. one guy even followed me home trying to sell me a product trying to flirt when i told him no many times i was triggered by this and my parents just tell me to "take it as a compliment" my father constantly teases me saying "youre really a catch huh?" whenever i share my sexual harassment stories and my mother says "just talk to them nicely" (my mother is one of those lucky women who didnt experience much sexual harassment) a married woman was raped in my neighborhood in broad daylight in her home they dont care that the same thing could happen to me or to someone else (we have customers coming into our home) to them, its as if being a good christian is magically gonna protect me from anything and everything it terrifies and pains me knowing that my parents are only ever gonna take me seriously when "something" happens to me.
It is a good thing that you are aware of this, it is the first step in staying safe. It is crazy that I must say this to someone who is, I suppose, living in a western country, that you should take up some self defense classes of some sort, it will help you in many ways. It will boost your confidence, alleviate some fears and make new friends. Also, depending of the country you're in, get yourself some pepper spray. In my country, we are not allowed to own pepper spray! stupid! women should be "handed out" some !!!
Girlll it's the same thing with me I am disgusted by the thinking and stupidity of my parents like when something happens to me they will be crying like our poor little baby, fuck off I lost all hopes of reasoning with them I don't even know in what world they are living.
Hearing the first story and hearing that he did this only because of the way she looked at him in passing is so terrifying- I was told recently that my friend’s boyfriend’s friend has a deep unshakable hatred for ME because i supposedly gave him ‘a look’ over 5 YEARS ago. I didn’t even know what he looked like or his name until he had showed up to my best friend’s party after learning I would be there because he had intended to confront me about that day 5 years ago. I am a friendly person. The type who'll talk to others while waiting in a check-out line, hold doors for men & women, assist others when I see them struggling..my question is this & I wish someone could answer it for me. First, only men have posed this to me...I smile a lot. Random men will quite often ask "what are you smiling about?" in a very confrontational tone. Then if I'm not smiling, a random man will tell me "smile!" or ask "why don't you smile?". Seems I can't win! These are always men I don't know, total strangers. I've had some suddenly acuse me of being a tease for smiling.?? I do not dress provocatively or present myself in a way even remotely flirty. Is this a norm I've somehow missed??
This kind of hatred towards women is based on cultural expectations and stereotypes. For example in my culture women aren’t expected to raise their voice when talking to men and if they did so they would get shouted at and shut down no matter how important the issue that they are discussing. Women are expected to be vulnerable, weak, fragile, and if shown any sign of “masculinity” they are viewed as crazy, or unworthy of trust

These stories remind me of an attack in my city several years ago. I live in Minnesota which is where the Mall of America is (one of the biggest malls in the country). It's got a hotel, an amusement park, multiple food courts ect. A mother was shopping in the middle of a weekday with her 5 year old son, out of no where, a man kind of squeezed passed her, but before she could even realize what was happening the man picked up her tiny 5 year old son and through him over the 3rd level balcony they were standing near. The mom screamed and looked over the rail to see her son laying in a puddle of blood 3 floors below. The man ran from the mall and emplyees/police quickly reacted to try to save this little boy. The boy survived, but it was a long, difficult recovery. The reason it reminds me of these other cases is because of the reason the man did this. When he was caught, he told police that the reason he did it was because he had been coming to the mall often to pick up women, but they kept rejecting him. This made him angry so he planned that morning to go to the mall and find a women to hurt but when he saw the boy it just felt like a good time to act and knew he could easily throw the small boy over the railing. I still look at the spot that poor boy landed, and the spot he was thrown over, every time I walk by them in the mall. He was in front of a "Rainforest Cafe" restaurant when he was thrown. A fun place I've taken my own kids many times. The thought of these monsters going after our kids to hurt us is paralyzing. It's sickening

She had no womb, or fallopian tubes or even overies and was forced to take hormones anyway. Now she is a man. It has been a huge change but now he feels safe and is not even being pressed to marry or have kids. No one is upset about him living happily alone with his dogs and home and travling the country. The amount of victim blaming, direct targeting, and the lack of support from authorities and the so-called justice system are nauseating. I don't know how to help. I wish I did.
(warning about the details)
Imagine having to stand fully nude as examiners swab nearly every inch of your body, from your mouth to your nails, to your genitals and rectum. Your pubic hair is combed for evidence and even plucked. It takes hours to document every injury and your emotional state at a very vulnerable time. And to top it off you are rarely, if ever, given your clothes back once it's been sent for testing.

The saddest thing is, within 6 minutes she was taken away, and there was a hospital within a 6 minute drive from her house. I dont really have the full details, but makes me think if all those people were men, including the friend. No wonder they blocked some routes to the Pöllat torrent, where he pushed them off to.

Hi Stephanie. Please read this. I'm from a small town in South Africa. A few years ago my cousin Percy was dating a girl who was cheating on him with a police officer.
My aunt tried to get a lawyer to fight the case but they didn't have enough money to proceed. We know he was murdered and that's what the guy in the cell wanted to tell my aunt. But the cop got to him before he could say anything. That guy is missing till today. Even his family hasnt heard from him.
Please could you cover this case Steph? I want people to know about my cousin. Thank you so much. 😢❤

It’s 100% the extremism on the internet that causes this sick mindset. It’s truly a cesspool, this society.

Hi
Me to i just feel bad for her
Ok white knight
Arm yourselves, learn martial arts. It's your lives.

I’m so sick to my stomach… why is being a woman so depressing…?

I was approached by a female neighbour the next day who told me that guy was filming me (probably some weird ass fetish). Knowing he knows where I live makes me very uncomfortable. But thankfully I don't live by myself at least.
@@abbieclementMales in general are like this so disagreeable and stubborn it's annoying 😑
Lord the logic behind the police investigation is horrible. The first case was not a “don’t ask crime” he followed her to SA her.
Exactly, it's one thing if he just attacked her and left but he knew where a blind spot was to take her body to??
I’m positive Korean system and USA system are both in on it 🤷🏾♂️ just dang horrible no where is safe with these horrible judicial systems 🤦🏾♂️😭😭
i read about this story a while ago and the fact that they didn’t want to think that it was SA and didn’t check properly is sick and the guy didn’t attack her because she gave him a dirty look clearly the police had to know that he had been following her for blocks and hiding behind cars when she turned around
Agreed that the police response is very disgusting and disturbing
Korea point blank doesn't take SA cases seriously. It's seen as 'making waves'.
Women shouldn’t have to live in fear of these demons. Stay strong.

Maybe don’t try to get him fired next time

It's Biblical by the way, and especially when their is no justice or protection from the State.
little rant here:
i am terrified for my safety from men. i really dislike it when men approach me in a "suggestive" way.
one guy even followed me home trying to sell me a product trying to flirt when i told him no many times
i was triggered by this
and my parents just tell me to "take it as a compliment"
my father constantly teases me saying "youre really a catch huh?" whenever i share my sexual harassment stories
and my mother says "just talk to them nicely" (my mother is one of those lucky women who didnt experience much sexual harassment)
a married woman was raped in my neighborhood in broad daylight in her home
they dont care that the same thing could happen to me or to someone else (we have customers coming into our home)
to them, its as if being a good christian is magically gonna protect me from anything and everything
it terrifies and pains me knowing that my parents are only ever gonna take me seriously when "something" happens to me.
Big sad

Your mom probably experienced a lot of that too, She simply learned to cope with it
Hearing the first story and hearing that he did this only because of the way she looked at him in passing is so terrifying- I was told recently that my friend’s boyfriend’s friend has a deep unshakable hatred for ME because i supposedly gave him ‘a look’ over 5 YEARS ago. I didn’t even know what he looked like or his name until he had showed up to my best friend’s party after learning I would be there because he had intended to confront me about that day 5 years ago.
He luckily does not know my personal information about my workplace or home but hearing this makes me think about how safe I really am- what lengths will he go?
My heart goes out to this poor woman

Sheer entitlement - women doesn't respond to you picking her up so your idea of response is to hurt random people and children too.....

One of my friends as a girl was assaulted and so badly her womb had to be removed. Her father threw her out after ut all for not being a "woman anymore and how can he marry her off now?" That she was no longer his "good Christian girl. Just damaged goods and must have wanted it." She eventually grew up to decide to transition to male. She had no womb, or fallopian tubes or even overies and was forced to take hormones anyway. Now she is a man. I asked if it was what she had always wanted and he told me, it is to be more safe in this world of men. Being one was safer and now works and lives as a man. It has been a huge change but now he feels safe and is not even being pressed to marry or have kids. No one is upset about him living happily alone with his dogs and home and travling the country. No gay, not gender queer, just safer and already was "destroyed as a female medically." So he felt "why not?" Also now that their father is dead they get to reconnect with mom and siblings!😊😮
