    This was a lot of fun to watch. I've never match fished myself so it was quite interesting to see what it's like. A few more of these would be great if they are in the books!
    Quite liked the heckling and friendly rivalry that goes on at one. Keep it up!

    @13:36 what a mutant of a fish. This is one of the main reasons I am not a fan of commercial fishery's. You end up catching fish that have seen a hood so many times. Their lips are all battered and bruised and sometimes they don't even any lips all together. That aside good video lads and thanks for not getting back to me via email.
    Also thanks for the shut out @18:21 :D

    I always wonder why everyone starts on pole, why not say small pellet cone and cast around the middle? I've never fished pole myself but i reckon the fish will be shoaled up deep and out towards the middle in that cold weather.

      They were Carp Alvin. :-) No, never from freshwater, but sometimes we might take the odd fish from the sea.

    Respect of course to those who enjoy this sort of fishing but I don't really understand the appeal. All that gear and catching fish in a pond over and over. I went up to Martham Pits one day and sat with a friendly chap as he fished. Seemed like fishing in your bath, they even know some of the fish and where to catch them. I'm inexperienced so maybe it will appeal to me later. At the moment I'll stick with flowing rivers. Good fun to watch you and thanks for the video.

    • @tomwinterfishing9065

      I used to fish lots of matches in my youth: it was all about pitting myself against other anglers and wanting to be the best. All sorts of emotions, nerves, anticipation and the pride of doing well. It certainly wasn't relaxing! I gave it up in my early 20's and didn't fish much for about 8 years. Then I got right back into it about 5 years ago, but don't fish matches anymore. It's a much more chilled affair now, but I still love it just as much. I even dust my pole off from time to time!

      Thanks for the kind comments David, glad you enjoyed it. I know what you mean, it doesn't appeal to everyone, but each and everyone to there own! :-) Hope your fishing on the rivers is going well and that you've been catching a few! Tight lines, cheers Chris.

    What is this type of fishing called?The rod,what type ?

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  7 лет назад

      Hi mate, this is match fishing, where you fish against other anglers... the biggest total weight wins. In this video we were using carbon poles. Hope that helps.

    • @armadilloburns4880
      @armadilloburns4880 7 лет назад

      Thank you.So you don't use a type of reel to bring in the fish?So its really basic.Can you use any type of gear in this match?

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  7 лет назад

      No worries mate. You don''t use a reel, the pole has elastic to take the lunges of the fish, you then slowly ship the pole back as the fish gets tired and closer to you. You can use any type of tackle in this match, however poles are very popular as they allow you to be very accurate and quiet. Hope that helps. :-)

      I don't think he was 'pissing about' Dan, I think he was using lightish tackle in a match and wanted to make sure he didn't lose the fish... it could of been the difference between winning and losing!

    Sorry, but commercial lakes have killed off the art of true fishing in my opinion. So many ponds being stocked with carp to appease the new breed of angler. How many commercial fishermen can say they could hold their own against the old breed of angler on a flowing river with rod and line seeking out shoals of fish? All the same, good video's to watch.

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  7 лет назад

      I know what you mean to an extent, I grew up fishing the rivers etc and I know Steve did too, this was were I learnt my fishing apprenticeship! :-) I guess commercials do encourage more people to take up the sport though and do make for a nice days fishing. Glad you are enjoying the video's anyway, hope your fishing is going well! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
