Fishing For Big Roach On The River
For this latest episode we head to the tidal river Yare to try and target a few big Roach on the feeder.
Normally at this time of year the fish would be off the main river and holed up in boat yards and small dykes, however with unseasonably mild weather they haven't needed to move.
With reports extremely encouraging, with other anglers reporting larger numbers of fish with an excellent average weight, fish to over 1lb hadn't been uncommon, we decided to head down there for ourselves to see if we could get in on the action; the target being a Roach or two over 1lb.
To find out exactly how we got on and to perhaps find out a few tips along the way, watch this latest installment, from the waters edge.
As usual we hope you enjoy it and any feedback is always much appreciated.
Tight Lines
From The Waters Edge TV
I have watched this videos several times and do not tire of them.I will make some videos of my first 10lb Bream from a wierpool in Essex shortly.Happy days and good luck for the new season Waters Edge TV
Thanks for the kind comments mate, glad you enjoyed the video. :-) Good luck with the new season too, lets hope its fish filled! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Really enjoyed this vid. You can’t beat river fishing for roach.
Thanks Charlie, glad you enjoyed it. :-)
Lovely net of prime roach. I'm glad the Cormorants have missed those beauties!
Great video lads, keep them coming.
Thanks +jason laverty glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-) I know what you mean, I think the Yare is so deep and fast flowing that the fish are a little more protected than what they are in our other rivers.
Hello Steve and Chris, another cracking video , again it's an area of fishing I'm not familiar with, lovely roach, enjoyed it immensely, thanks to you both.
Cheers +Neil Etherington glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them. :-)
great video! been waiting for a feeder roach fishing video for a while now, learned a lot from this thanks!
Thanks +vasyasol glad you enjoyed it. :-)
Beautiful roach there mate. I love river roach fishing, they're in much better condition than commercial roach
Thanks for the kind comments +MrTim207 glad you enjoyed the video! I know what you mean, you can't beat a few nice sized river Roach! ;-)
What a lovely session with magnificent roach !! Very informative also, I saw you used a specific dark coloured winter mix. Something special ? Great filming skills : matches the fishing ;-)
Thanks for the kind comments +Johan de vlieger glad you enjoyed the filming as much as the fishing too! :-) I'm not sure what Groundbait Steve used... I'll see if I can find out for you though. (I think it might have been Sensas Roach Black/Noire, I know its one of his favourites.) Hope that helps, cheers Chris.
Nice bag of fish and excellent video.
Cheers +Dietmar L. :-)
thanks for that I will keep looking around for somewhere to fish on the broads. I did see the blog you guys did and you said if anyone had any ideas what you guys could go out and catch how about mackerel fishing from the beach or swapping round Steve goes sea fishing and Chris goes coarse fishing just an idea guys keep the good videos coming well done guys
No worries Andrew, good luck, hope you find somewhere. Yeah, we did put it out there... we always like to hear idea's and suggestions! Am sure we can sort something out... a Mackerel and Bass lure/feathering trip is on the cards... it's just waiting for the right conditions. :-)
Glad you're enjoying the video's though and as always thanks for taking the time to comment etc
Great video. Love the Broads. Tight lines.
Cheers +Chris Bigg glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment. It's always nice to fish the broads and their rivers.
Nice to see the river and some Roach :)
Cheers +Gary A it was nice to get amongst a few! :-)
Good idea on the rig. Thx mate
No worries Marc!
Love watching the videos fishing on the Yare, Do you think this summer you could do a video either trotting or flat floating on the Yare for the big roach, that would be so interesting cheers, keep them coming great job.
Definetely Colin, it's something we can look at once the season opens. :-)
Great video, have you ever thought about using a running paternoster set up like the England feeder team use?
Cheers +Dan T glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. I haven't to be honest, I'm not overly familiar with what they use, but I'll give it a look. It must be pretty successful if they use it! :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Good old roach bay. Would be interested to see how you would tackle it for pike? Drifter or statics etc? I know there's been the odd good fish out by accident.
I'm not sure how you would +Spartan 117-82 one of my friends has, but that was from a boat. You'd think there'd be some Pike there with all the food there!
Could you explain the float stop again please. I'd like to try the rig on the Trent?
another great video guys well done I keep watching all of your videos over and over I am trying to find places to fish on the broads but trying to find where I can fish and where I can't is hard any tips
Thanks Andrew, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not too sure on where to fish on the actual broads (apart from a couple of free swims at Wroxham). There's lots of good pieces of river though.
Nice trick with the float stop! Yeah boi :D
Glad you found it useful +arcanekrusader it is handy, especially when fishing for Roach, the bites can be infuriating sometimes!!!
yeah, roach can be little blighters on the feeder! We used to use the dink dink rig on the thames for them. That was pretty effective. It's basically a critically balanced feeder, with a short hook paternoster above it. The roach hit the bait, giving the 'dink dink', then hook themselves and dislodge the feeder, resulting in a drop-back bite. Dunno if you've heard of this, or tried it? if not, give it a bash :D
Brilliant fishing
Cheers Vinnie. :-)
Wonderful roach fishing and great video as usual well done lads ;-)
Thanks +boodlewoodle glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-)
Some good condition fish!
Cheers +Oliver Cooper they are cracking fish when they get to that size :-)
hi there, can i ask a question, what is the best way of attaching a pretied hooklength to your main line. loop to loop? and what loop to tie thanks mate
Hi +Sam Haze best way to attach a hook-length is loop to loop. There's lots of different loops you can tie, just pop a search in on RUclips or Google for 'fishing loop knots' or something, am sure there'll be tonnes of results. :-)
Would also be happy to put you on a few of my local spots if you do another pike vid.
Cheers +Spartan 117-82 thats a very kind offer.
+From The Waters Edge TV No worries. I'm halfway down the A146 so wander both sides of the border. Funny how so few people get out on the local rivers for pike / perch. There's some lovely but tricky spots to fish locally. Feel free to give me a shout if you want ideas for locations.
If your ever in Wales, please can you do some river fishing in Cardiff
No worries +EnviousGamer if we are ever out that way we'll give you a shout! :-)
+From The Waters Edge TV okay thank you, there's another place in Cardiff called Cefn Mably and it's a complex of 10 lakes, they have a Match pond and the record is 214.3lbs
could you boys do a video or series about caring for maggots and casters please. I notice you have your casters in water. I seems like more than an incidental subject. The other thing is keeping your worms, I've had some luck keeping leftover worms and growing them on in compost. I've found it really handy to have some bait at home ready. Cheers, Dave
Hi Dave, I'm sure we could sort something out. The casters are kept in water (or in an air tight bag) as if they are left in the open air they will go dark and turn into floaters! Worms can be tough to keep... try and keep them cool, either in a fridge or on the garage floor. Cheers Chris.
From The Waters Edge TV Cheers that would be great. As for worms, I'm having a go and have kept loads of leftovers alive for months dendrobiums and lob worms. but have had no eggs yet. I'm currently toying with temperature, moisture and food. What i can do is get fatter worms than when i bought them.
excellent net!
Cheers +britishbluetess it did turn out to be a nice catch in the end! It's always nice to fish for Roach, especially when they are a decent size! :-)
great video has always
Cheers +adrian smith glad you enjoyed it!
great videos guys
Cheers +Nathan F34R thanks for taking the time to comment.
Fantastic Roach i'm surprised you didnt catch any other species though, is it just Roach on that stretch where you fished? cant complain though great sizes for Roach.
There's lots of Bream and Skimmers on that stretch too at the right time of year.
nice fishing :) but any more saltwater videos planned? like the surfcasting ones! cheers
Cheers +danysniper22 we should hopefully be out and about on the beach as soon as this current storm passes through! :-)
Hi Steve , great vid as usual , what size elastic did u use ??
Hi David, I can't remember what Steve said, I'll ask him for you though. :-) Cheers Chris.
hy can you tell me what are u use for bait? i want to practice it coz in my village have much fish like thats
We used maggots, casters and worms.
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV thanks
nice video Steve where did you park ? how much of a walkmis mate?
Hi +David Harvey there's a little car park at the end of the track and you can walk up over the bank to the river, the nearest peg is about 2-5 mins with your tackle.
+From The Waters Edge TV cheers
nice roach mate
Thanks +Henri Thomas
Miss the English river fishing !!
It can be very enjoyable Kieron!
+From The Waters Edge TV nothing like English rivers and my country side
Fished at Tunbridge wells as a kid, Norfolk broads. Ii certainly miss England's river systems an it's beautiful countr,y side
I had a holiday near to that pub about 10 years ago and fished about 100meters to the left of that peg in the summer and had 3 loverly days on the Yare ! Close enough to walk for a couple of pints ! I had a couple of Tench mixed in and quite alot of bootlace eels but a cracking river and would advise anybody to have a crack ! I also fished only about 3/4 rod lenths out due to boat traffic my thinking was not to be disturbed too much and have to keep reeling in for pleasure cruisers ! ALSO WHEN TIMOTHY WEST AND PRUNELLA SCALES ARE ON THE RIVER FILMING GREAT CANAL JOURNEYS ? WITH SCALES BEING NUTTIER THAN A STAR BAR in about 18ft of water my feeder was safe just not me When Scales was at the helm ! I SAID OIIII SCALES NO ! YOU MAY BE A LEGEND OF STAGE AND SCREEN BUT IF YOU CAME AROUND TO MINE ASKING TO PUT FAULTY TOWERS ON AGAIN ! ALL 8 EPISODES BACK TO BACK ! WHILE THE MRS WAS PEALING THE SPUDS ON HER LONESUM ! ID SAY OIIII SCALES NNNOOOOO !!!!!! #AngryFrank #HarryEnfield
Haha! Brilliant! :-D
I know the saying is "to each his own" but I fail to see how sitting round a man made hole in the ground and filled with Carp can be as satisfying as "proper" fishing like this !!!
We enjoy a bit of everything, variety is the spice of life as they say! But you are right, each to there own. :-)
Good video, keep it up
Cheers +Carp Gaming we wil! ;-)
brilliant.
Thanks +Ian Thompson :-)
Can you tell me the place?
It's the river Yare in Norfolk +Dan Plays just up from the Beauchamp pub.
Crackin bag of red fins chaps really enjoyed the vid again
Cheers +paul smith glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! :-)
hehe only really ever heard that for perch
daiwa are annoying. they don't make that 2oz yellow tip anymore
Don't they Michael? We didn't know that! Perhaps they've replaced it with something?
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV i spoke to a local tackle shop and he said they used to cost £20 but they replaced them with shitty 11.99 ones
Give your jacket will promote your channel in Russian))
Haha, thanks +Кирилл Барсуков we'll see what we can do! ;-)
First comment
Nice one +vinny palmer hope you enjoy the video! :-)
