      My dad had a b-61 with a dolly and a Rogers traitor. He used it to move his D-7’s around with. When I got older I drove it many times . When he passed away ,one of my brothers sold it . I tried to buy it back but it was already parted out .

    Back in the mid 90's.. I ran across an old 1972 IH Loadstar 1700 w/304cid - 5spd single spd rear, 5 yrd dump bed.. I bought it just to restore, go to truck shows, etc. - I'm a retired Union Elevator Mechanic.. turned wrenches for 40+ yrs (since I was a kid too 😊) .. I simply tore it down in my shop, rebuilt it from ground up, new paint, etc. - I had every single item working on it.. added a cool Pioneer stereo system, custom built speaker box behind the seat.. it was one sharp looking 1700!!.. it SHINED!.. I did not build it w/ intention of it being put back to work.. just do shows w/ it.. enjoyed it greatly about 4 yrs.. local guy made me a RIDICULOUS offer on it.. well, if he wanted to pay that amount of $$$ for it... Sold!!.. that's been 25 yrs ago.. it is about 12 miles from my house now.. flipping guy drove it home.. parked it beside his shop in PRISTINE condition.. TO THIS DAY!!.. it has NEVER once moved!!.. TRUE STORY!!.. from the day he bought it.. he drove it home and parked it.. dont bother me.. I made BANK off of it.. I just thought it kinda shitty at first.. I see it all the time .. dont let it bother me anymore.. STILL has the SAME 25 yr old brand new tires on it!!

    The farm I worked at back in the 1980s had a green and white International 2010A. Tandem axle, 290 Cummins, 13 over with 513 gears in the back. She wasn't the nicest as far as creature comforts go but that was the most dependable truck I ever drove. She would pull the world. I seen her pull 1200 bushels of beans out of the field when their newer 4070 Transtar II would not. It was grossing over 95,000 lbs. It was great farm truck.

    I had several of them old B-61 Macks. I ran mine OTR pretty much anywhere there was Milk cows being moved. Those were truly the good old days. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking me along for the ride. Oh yeah, a good tune up is all your IH needs. Use a paper matchbook cover or a fresh dollar bill folded in half to gap your points and advance the timing ever so slightly. Make sure she's got a good clean air ffilter and fuel filter. She'll do you a fine job. It should get about 6 or 7 mpg. once you get it tuned up and running right. Gas was only 40 cents per gallon in that trucks hay day.

    That brings back such memories. My dad had a 1966 Loadstar 1600 with dump bed for hauling grain to the elevator. Loved driving that thing. Looks like that thing has "Rolls Kenardly" syndrome - Rolls down one hill and Kenardly get up the next. Hopefully a tune up and tweak the timing ( making sure vacuum advance is working) will give her a little more pep. Dad's International had the 304 V8. It ran good but had to make sure she was getting full fuel to the carb and proper ignition timing or she wouldn't pull herself.

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  4 года назад +1

    • @CaptainCrutch
      @CaptainCrutch 4 года назад +1

      @@MichaelTJD60 I was really glad to see you all made it to your destination with that bad fuel, running in bad fuel is what took my L model Mack out of service for a while... she’s still not quite right but usually a good shot of lead additive seems to get her running the way she should again!

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  4 года назад

      We didn't make the trip home with the old fuel. We poured about 20 gallons of fresh gas in before leaving, and then stopped to fill up both tanks again once we were on the road. It will definitely need the fuel system cleaned before it's ready to be put to use.

    • @CaptainCrutch
      @CaptainCrutch 4 года назад +2

      @@MichaelTJD60 I got that but still whatever was in the tanks is a miracle you didn’t cause the valves to stick and whatnot... even with pouring in fresh fuel on my truck, as the bad stuff left over worked it’s way through it messed up the fuel system pretty bad! Send the VIN for the Mack to the Mack museum and they'll pull the production record on that truck you'll know how it was spec'd, when exactly it was built, who initially ordered it. They keep the build sheet info on every truck they make, even that far back.

      As far as I know, the museum has been shut down for months. It took them 6+ months (maybe closer to a year) to send the paperwork for his Superliner after he bought it two years ago....this B-61 won't be around that long, he might have it sold already.

    I use to drive a Fleetstar it was white with a gold interior. It was set as a double knuckle crane truck. It some kind of big gas engine with a dinky carburetor.

    My dad had an old International a couple of years older than the first one that had a chassis that could be extended. He had to carry a longer drive shaft. I'm not sure of the model. He also had a cracker box jimmy.

    I'm hear because of the B-61 First truck I drove back in 1968 Twin screw 5&4 Diesel, never forget that huge white steering wheel . That Corn binder can't pass a gas station .

    Any of those big gas V eights need high test gasoline to run properly and the lead additive the unleaded fuel makes it run to lean and usually blows the exhaust manifold gaskets if you were pulling a hill at night the manifolds will be glowing

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  4 года назад

      High-test or recreational gas would definitely help this one run better. A local gas station sells 91-octane recreational gas with no ethanol...that's what this truck needs.

    Nice score! Bet you were getting all kinds of looks from people, hauling a B model Mack with an IH Fleetstar, definitely not something you see everyday.

      One guy walking down the street complimented us at a stop light, but the only looks we got were from people who were probably pissed at us for blocking a busy intersection when it stalled and wouldn't restart 😬

      The B model I used for parts for my B75 and some other trucks then sold the driveline to repower a B60. All to good use. The IH went to Maine for restoration and a guy bought the lowboy the day I got it home. I purchased these from a fella with Dementia. He and his wife were selling some things that were a burden on them

    looks good , that 345 or 404 i have a rare 1890 model loadstar, 5 speed wish it had the 2 speed axle though

      What were the different features of the 1890? Models ending with "50" were diesels, "00" gas.
      The diesels seem to be extremely rare.
      I presently have a 73 Loadstar 1700 with a 392, used to have a 74 1800 with air brakes, also 392. I love these old beasts.
