Great truck, I drove one for years. You have under drive, direct and overdrive on the auxiliary transmission. If you split between direct and overdrive it allows you to go up or down 1/2 a gear let’s say. Under a load climbing a hill this would help. So let’s say third direct, split to over, shift to 4th as you split back to direct, then 4th over. Works with most any gear. Double clutch helps, no synchro. Gears. The 5x3 transmission, that’s what I call it, in a load star was the first truck I started with. You will get the hang of it with practice. Reach through the steering wheel and shift both sticks at the same time once ya get the hang of it. You have lots of empty road to get use to shifting. I was 17 in NJ practicing on the crowded roads in a dump truck. Thanks, you brought back some great memories.
With no power steering you only had arm steering. As long it wasn’t loaded in the front of the bed you could turn the steering wheel easily. If it was loaded in the front oh Boy was it a pain to turn to turn from a stand still. Great memories driving the truck.
First time I beat the download. Must be the pine squirrel internet up there...lol...Thanks for the video whenever it comes.
Lmfao
That thing kicked right off. 🤟😁
Thanks for keeping these rigs around and being a good caretaker to them .
People can say whatever but nothing beats seat time Noone is born knowing how to do anything you'll get.
Nice one. More seat time and You'll be twin-sticking double clutching Backyard Big-Rig. It would make a great car, truck hauler.
Dude love the videos shout out from all the way from MA
My Grandfather had one of these, it was pretty good off road to pull logs.
OLD GIRL LIKE HER YOU HAVE TO LEAN THE ART OF SHIFTING AT THE SWEET RPM .. ALMOST LIKE SPEED SHIFTING
I can't believe I lived in Alaska, drug junk out of the willows, and have missed you channel all these years. If you've not met him, there's a guy down in the Valley with a ton of old IH trucks. Hit me up if you're looking for contacts and I'll get you his info. He helped me some when I pulled my Scout 800 out of Bethel to drive it cross country to Virginia. He only had a couple Scouts but I'd bet he had 40 trucks or more and they're all for sale he said. Great videos, I know what I'll be doing all afternoon. 👍
I’m surprised I never heard of you either! A buddy told me about your Instagram page, I actually spotted you heading out on your trip. I appreciate that, more contacts are always a good thing. Thanks for watching!
Double the clutch standard for those old things
My Grandfather owned one of those trucks with a fuel tank on it. He used to deliver fuel to all the farmers in his area. Brings back great memories riding around with him on his deliveries. Thanks for saving this one.
Great job. Nice truck!
great show thanks have fun
What a freekin Gem.... nice one bro!
Great episode enjoyed the hell out of it. You gave her the love she needed! ;)
Great truck, thanx for the video...
G.Day Austin great job onthe loadstar she will be a good truck ,Yes you have to double cluch these older trucks ,once you get the hang of it love as allways ....
I've seen enough of your driving here to know I'd be absolutely comfortable with you driving my trucks. What a great old ride! My stepdad was a potato farmer. He had 7 Loadstar tandem spud trucks, all with 4-speed auxiliaries. The first gear (deep under) was half the speed of the second speed, so the truck would go slow enough and have enough torque multiplication to get loaded along side a potato harvester even if the ground was soft. They burned a lot of gas but I learned a lot!
Awesome video I work on semi trucks cool to see u give a old truck some run time keep it stock
im really proud an happy for ya, you got it up in no time an its a good rig in good shape to learn on double clutching is mostly a must in old gearboxs like them there is 0 syncros in um so rev matching mixed with double clutching will get you a long ways, cant wait to see where that old truck takes ya !
it is a bit .of a gas gobbler with the392 petrol v8 pitty it has that motor a mate of mine .owned one with a6V 53 detroit as a logger what a great truck it was
Keep it up my friend your doing a beautiful thing bringing these old girls back to life
Twin stick is something new to experience to drive
Man awesome truck as everyone saying this would make a great rig for bringing more items of interest home.
Brought back a lot of memories when I was wrechin on Corn Binders like this. Keep working on Her!
That was the best part of the rigs and cars of the old days. Every bloody make did everything different. It's what made it fun, finding out what little gems awaited you driving a new rig or car back in the old years. Now everything is a hybrid of each other!
Well at least you got the old girl running In time you'll have a flat bed to haul your other great finds
Fireman 🔥🔥🔥
You Got a pretty fast grip on that shifting.
I love to See more!
Nice truck! that shifting pattern is cool. Looks like you have the shifting under control! 👌👌
that is a beast! good work!
In case you have not done this yet, let it run till you reach full (Brake) air pressure then find the bleeder air valve on the air tank, pull on the release to bleed-off any water / moisture that has accumulated inside the tank(s). You take care.
Definitely rocking the loadstar. I can total see this being the new toy hauler.
The best of SnowRunner
Great job
That thing would be beautiful with a 5.9 Cummins
I don’t think that would have enough beans
@@johnwudarcki9315 I mean it currently has a big block probably with 130 horses 🐎
@@scr2392 If it’s a 345, should be about 190hp. Everybody’s got a Cummins, but these old IH V8s are just as tough.
Your doing great figuring out shifting those old gearbox's, there should be metal tags on the sides of the cases telling make and model. The auxiliary trans came in a few different gear ratios and non had synchronizers. I haven't seen those differentials since the 70's, real blast from the past.
another scrapped knuckles job and some quirky fix for the slave cylinder install..good job..
These International Load Stars have always been great trucks that is why you se so many of them around especially on Farms parked beside the Farmall Tractors. Yeah nice rig.
Very cool truck and nice driving on that old girl!! Reminds me of the old farm truck!!
good stuff.. I like it!
I am really glad to s you got it running. It's great you wanted to restore this one. I think you are doing very well with your restoring the old girl. Thank you for sharing. Always looking forward to your next video.
Another awsome video, cool old binder. Could put a old semi fifth wheel on the back n you got a heavy hauler. Looks like a smooth ride on the dirt roads.
Good looking truck and it moves, congratulations.
Awesome. I love it!
This reminds me of mud runner! Lol …. I’m thinking about buying same year truck
Excellent job Looks Great also
Great Job! Backyard thanks for sharing and all of your hard work.
NICE REZ...
Great video. Double clutching is a timer for you to match the rpm with the transmission. You drive it enough you will get used to the rpm and matching the transmission you won't use the clutch after your get it moving. Takes time to learn it. From old truck driver.
Great job! You’re do a fantastic job. Love your videos. Keep saving them. 👍😎
Gotta crawl before you walk. Have to learn some how. Great truck i love the ol international. Wish i could find one for a wood hauler. Great video keep em comin
Since it has air brakes, there should be a valve on the dash that bleeds off the air and locks the brakes. Then you push it in to release the brakes so you can drive. There should also be a light and buzzer when the air drops below the level the system should maintain. Typically about 65 psi. Nice work and great truck! I am envious!
I don't think that style park brake was invented till late 60s. This would probably have drums or a drive line park brake.
@@kentkirkpatrick7953 You may be right, but they are definitely air brakes which means there is a compressor that has a regulator and an air tank. Air brakes activate when there is a loss of air in the system, either by stepping on the brakes or pulling out the valve control on the dash. You can’t move the vehicle until sufficient air pressure has been established that will release the brakes when you push in the valve. I drove 18 wheelers for 20+ years so I know a bit about air brakes.
You are correct for newer trucks. This truck dose not have that. This truck only has survive brakes. Wasn't until 67-68 that stuff was invented.
What another great addition to your fleet! Great revival as always, because you sure are persistent and know enough to get things done. Great job!
There a good old truck. Take the comments with a Grain of Salt. All those Super Truckers out there setting on there couches..LOL..HAHA...Your doing a Good job learning Bud. Youll get it. So dont get discouraged by the Super Truckers.. on the Couch..Great Job and Video....Great Find too..
Nice job and driving as well, looks like a awesome truck. Good luck with it ..
Beautiful IH. Great work. Seems to run good.
Nice job!
All the old binders loved double clutching all the transmissions ground gears unless you were speed shifting and the steering box was usually loose turn the steering wheel a whole revolution to turn the wheels a little bit
Lol Luv that video those old international are a trip double clutch yes please they’re greedy we had an old international dump truck we got fire wood for the winter it needed piston rings every time you went downhill it smoke like you had a fire in the cab but the brakes were shot so you had no choice Wouldn’t trade those days for anything great old truck is still sits on the property to this day I think it I was 16 at the time Could never get away with that shit in these this time 😂 I believe it was a 1965 dump truck i’ll send you a picture of it Keep up the videos they’re awesome are super chill when you do them
Nice work … keepin it alive! Thanks for your time brother!
Boys NEED BIG TOYS!!! Works for me!
Hey Brother! Once again you are THE MAN! I've subscribed to your channel over 2 years ago and I'm still hooked! As opposed to other channels that I plain just got weary of and had to let them go. You are the difference for us and thank you again!
I would say to paint the floors and wheels, and spray the underside and chassis with used motor oil as an ani rust coating
What a sweet ol rig 👌🏻
She a beautifully aged beast.
Living in the UK where space is a premium, the vast areas of land available to you are amazing to me...certainly wouldn't get away with driving them over here sadly.
Peace
Charlie 🇬🇧
They still shipping criminals to Australia?? Lots of space there!
Jokes jokes...
I live in Southern California, lots of open space if you like the desert (i do) but we all seem to have crammed ourselves into San Diego and Los Angeles where there isn't even room to breath. And every piece of dirt out there is owned by someone or something.
Great vid! I love that truck! I had a 1966 International 1 ton p/up.304v8,4spd,4whl drive, totally over built from the factory,2 sets of leaf spring on the back, factory snow plow set up.Split rims(I didn"t care for them!,dangerous!).Built stake side racks for it,hauled alot of firewood with that thing.Never got it stuck, alway"s in the woods. This vid made my day. You"ve got a great sense of humor and your a pretty fair mechanic!
Now you need a Detroit Diesel 6-71 or 8V-71 powered vehicle for the stable!
A worn clutch slips on higher gears, when driving. Grinding gears = not enough of decoupling. Adjust more, Great engine sound, very even.
Thanks.
Fun ride dude :-)
Sweet rig!
No syncros in that trans. Brand new clutch still gonna grind, rpm/float shifting is your friend on this ole girl. Watch your shift linkage on the auxiliary trans, you can get into 2 gears at once. It wont move that way but it can engage 2 at once, old trucks like this are what I learned how to drive on 40 years ago.
Actually good work shifting it👍🏻
I like to see a vid of you replacing the clutch. Thanks
So cool congrats
Bet you get more positive comments about your efforts than criticism.
👍👌mint!
thats exactly what ya do get in it n figure it out im in my mid 60s after you get the hang of it im sure you will be rev matching your gear up n down without a clutch just takes a bit of time is all quite impressive young fella keep it up
I guess you're on the hunt for a nice roll back tilt tray for this gem to help you collect all those gems from the back woods of Alaska.... Great video...
The twin stick is not bad with the shift pattern it's like old school compared to one stick.
It takes time to get the shifting down on a 5 and 4 or what ever your trying to drive first truck I drove was a White log truck and it was a 5 and 4 and there was cars lined up behind me on the highway while I got used to shifting it but run your arm threw the steering wheel and shift both shifters at the same time but you have to be running pretty good speed to do it and it takes time and practice you will get it down just stay at it and keep the video's coming
Ready for it's second lifetime! Keep an eye on the air. If the compressor starts blowing oil, things can get sketchy.
🤠
there is nothing more permanent then temporary in vintage vehicles 🤣
May santa bring you an electric grease gun. Consider putting a donation option in on the channel? Glad to see an easy win for a change. Great for a first time on a twin stick. Thanks.
We own a 70 loadstar. They never changed the body ours looks the same as yours.
👍👍👍👍👍
👍 👍 👍 👍
You shift aux box in every gear of main. Low in aux is only used when stopped n shift into.
Use 3 shifts on aux n split the mains
If you were hauling a load of grain we would start in low low. Shift the aux to 2nd and then shift the main up to whatever gear it would pull. Never used the auxiliary past 2nd much.
I think that’s in pretty decent shape for it’s age. If it were mine I would fix it up and get it road legal.
The aux doesn't use a clutch. Float em into gear. The main is probably non synchro. So double clutch the main and float the brownie
If my old tractor was grinding gear selection when stationary it was oil on the clutch dragging it around.
Cool
Some one has made a horrible job of altering those shift levers the main.transmisson lever should not be straight like that it would be much easier to.opetate if it was the original shape
On newer trucks , it takes 90 psi for the slack adjusters to release the air brakes before the wheels can turn ! on this truck the air pressure may not need to be that high !
🤠👍👍
Cool truck time to fix the heater you will need it .
Nice, that's a serviceable truck, find some kind of heater core and put it to work
I would be on the hunt for a 5th wheel and flatbed/ramp trailer for this rig
Give it a little gas and Rev it up every time you want to switch gears it helps a lot
