Just discovered your channel and like it. You are now added to my favorites and am a new subscriber. I also like the nice wide shot of your shaving den as that adds interest to the video. Also, the fact that you regularly answer your commenters is nice.
Thanks, Norm! I appreciate the sub and feedback! I genuinely enjoy engaging with wetshavers, sometimes I answer back a little later than Id like to, life etc. I'm still new to content creation and always welcome feedback, have a good one!
Great list and information. I do like the Merkur 34c and 37c. I have the 6s which shaves like the 6c. Some great razors under $50. There is no “Need”to spend more for a great shaver. Honorable mention - Spend a few bucks more and get into the Razorock GC - all SS.
😊 thanks David! I try to deliver 🙌 hope you have a great day today, later I'm throwing ribs on the bbq😁🙌 any holiday that encourages barbecues is alright by me lol
Good morning brother, great 10 and very interesting. I got the double open comb from PAA and the sloc from Razorock and actually find the Razorock milder. But both are very good razors. I'm not into slants, but again that is just my personal preference. Have a great Labor day and stay safe. 🌎💈🪒
Hi Tobin, great and unterstandable selection. Having a quite extended collection I only had two matches (Merkur CC, King C. Gillette). In my opinion the PAA El Fantasma and the Fasan shave noticeable different. One of my choices in this category would be the aluminum Razorock Lupo. Another great option is the new milder Version of the Greencult razor from Austria (0.65/0.1mm, stainless steel, CNC). Chris (IAMCD) showed the more aggressive version (0.95/0.25mm) of the Greencult in one of his videos. I followed your recommendation for the PAA Solar Flare as PAA's softest brush - you're right, the size and balance are perfect too - Thank You !
Thanks Artur, the selection we have available is maddening lol. So curious, you have a double slant fasan from the 1930s? Or did you mean the Fasan Twist? I had a Fasan but then sold it when the price was right and have regretted ever since. I need to check out the Greencult, I've heard others talking about it and loving it
And glad to hear about the Solar Flare, I just used it again the other day, I'm already looking forward to whatever it may be that Doug has in mind next 🙌🙌 thanks again!
@@Tobins_throwbacks Hi, my Fasan is the "Der doppelschräge Rasierapparat Fasan" with the insane torsion, got it as NOS but I don't know wether its from the 30ies or the 50ies. There was also an East German copy of the Fasan "Trumpf Schrägschnitt". Other less known German slants are the "Golf Schrägschnitt" (unplated aluminum) and the "Mulcuto Schrägschnitt". Living in Germany you can still find them in the wild. Just last month an older neighbor brought the holy grail for a German wet shaver - a travel set with a gold plated Apollo Mikron. Saw Fasans quite often on the German ebay site.
@@Tobins_throwbacks The Solar Flare is now my most used synthetic brush - the softness is unbeatable. My favorite brush is still the synthetic Mühle brush (23mm "Silvertipfibre" 33 k 256), it simulates a badger brush almost perfectly - better lather release and less wasted lather remaining in the knot. But it is not the softest or the most dense brush, so it took a while to understand this brush. With the strong dollar at this moment the Greencult is now more affordable than ever. There should be a kind of "random picker" for the gear, it takes every time 10 minutes to make a decision for the combination of razor, blade, brush, soap and after shave.
If you have a IPhone there is a shaving app for that, I don't have an IPhone but a few guys I know love the app. I still need to add that Muhle fiber to my Arsenal
Great vid, Tobin, and excellent list! I've recently picked up the PAA Meta4, but really curious about their double open comb lineup. The original doc looks good! I have had a run of bad luck with Merkur, as my travel Merkur and the replacement heads I bought both misalign the blade. I was about to give up on Merkur but took a leap of faith with the 34c and have been pleasantly surprised. Looking to get the 37c now (which I think is the slant version) . Epic vid! Have a great day! 👊😁
Thanks James! The Meta 4 is amazing, if you have the extra dough grab the Ascension over the DOC. It's a higher end newer version of the DOC. The DOC for the price is one hell of a razor though. I have had a few issues with some of the Merkurs too. Have a great weekend!
Tobin, I am new to DE Safety Razors, as of Oct 21, 2023 !! With that first razor, I cut myself up really good, blood everywhere! It did not matter, as I was convenced that DE Safety Razors were the way to go !! So in November, after some research, I bought the Merkur 23C (Closed Comb) and 25C (Open Comb), and with those two razors, the blood shed was put to an end !! I can live with just having those two razors! In this video though, the Merkur 30C Classic Double-Edge Safety Razor with the Black Resin Handle has really caught my eye, as I love black !! SILLY??? Maybe so, but I can't help it !! I have a question though ....Can the heads be interchangeable ??? I ask, because I really love the 25C (Open Comb) !! But maybe you have a better suggestion all togeather !! I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL TOBIN !!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !! Ephesians 1:3
Hey! Absolutely! You can put the 25c on the black handled one. I believe it's the same head as the 23c. But that black handle looks sharp and is less likely to slip out of your hands. I LOVE Merkur! Great shave, affordable and built to last! I'd recommend the Merkur Progress too. If you buy it in Amazon you can return it if you don't like it. The Progress is adjustable. Also, you may like the Edwin Jagger DE89 or the Muhle R89. Both are similar to the Merkurs. Ephesians 1:3 Spirtual gifts right? Or is that where Paul was talking about Redemption through Christ? Either way, I love all of Paul's letters. Merry Christmas!

I really believe that my shaving future is now a very bright and enjoyable one, with the choices that I have made here! Your insights on this matter would be greatly apreciated !! If all is good, then I am done with my shaving setup! I do know that there are preshave and aftershave products that I do not have, but those things have never served me very well, with my skin type, other than making me smell good, and I have Cologne for thet purpose.
@Ambassador-For-Christ In my opinion The Variant is Parker's best razor! Currently, I'm my den I have their slant. I gave my Variant away a few years ago to a new Wet shaver. I have the Progress from Merkur. The Variant is the same razor as the Progress. Exactly the same when it comes to the heads dimensions and shaving capabilities. I think you have set yourself up perfectly! With the Variant start on a low setting, then work your way up until you find your perfect setting. My advice, be patient with yourself and the razor while finding the perfect setting. Let me know how it goes 👍👍🙏
I ordered the Rockwell 6C and some Paraso white for my first try at wet shaving. Going to try shaving my head too. Prices are going out of control though!! Seems everything is 30-100% more then videos from a year ago Going from a Mach 3…wish me luck. I might look like I got into a knife fight!
You'll do great! Start off with plate 1 or 2 and work your way up. Light pressure, 30 degree angle and be patient with yourself. It takes a few attempts for most guys to get the hang of it.
