But with 2 DC fast charging sessions limitation a day. in 10 yrs we'll probably have next generation baterries, LFP with NMC perfomance, Li-S, solid state etc. current gen EVs need fresh batteries sooner or later, toyota a bit delayed but i don't see the point in that

Five maybe, but not ten. You’re going to lose 2-5 % the first year alone and then at least 2-3% a year after that. As a Tesla owner, I can tell you that anyone who tells you their battery doesn’t degrade is lying. They all degrade.
I paid thousands below MSRP ($43k for the AWD SLE) winter package) for mine. The dealer also threw in a level 2 ChargePoint home charging station which our power company paid for the installation. It suits our urban driving needs perfectly though I would not take it on long road trips out of state yet. The fit, finish and trim quality was far above the other makes I looked at. Build quality was a huge factor in my decision; more important than fast charging and range. We considered the Rav4 Prime but we already have a hybrid Highlander that's had its catalytic converter stolen twice. So now we don't have to worry about that. Also, no oil changes or smog inspections. As you mentioned, there was indeed a software update in May of 2023 that added battery state display and other improvements. After 4 months of owning this car I still look forward to driving it every day.
I'm still not convinced an EV is the way to go, yet. I'm a big hybrid believer and we owned two Prius, for 16 years. Living in Texas would be a huge challenge to find enough charge stations driving to west Texas from San Antonio. I own a 2012 Prius V, I think Toyota should make something similar again.
I too live in San Antonio. Hybrids/EV would be great if you sit in traffic, but I leave early/late for my commutes to beat the traffic and hypermile the mpg: as ~35.5 on the family's tried and true 4 cylinder 06 Camry is sweet. (Best I've calculated this year was 35.81 mpg between full fills.) Combined with that 18.5 gallon tank
Had mine for a couple of months now. I love it. Smooth ride, great handling, nice acceleration. Saving a couple hundred dollars a month in gas, that bit itself pays for the lease.
Sells well in Norway as well as the Netherlands, 10 years warranty on batteries, 450km range as tested in the Netherlands. It was considered a better EV tgan Audi q4 etron and VW Id4, source Autoweek magazine and Autovisie magazine. This car is far better than some media wants us to believe.... . Toyota took 20 years to perfect their hybrids and from 2025/26 they will start for earnest with their EV'S.... .

It is not.... . Collegue has the Subaru Solterra, a red one, with all the plastics as well in red, wow, what a nice car, sadle brown interior. He loves the car, only 345km range, dual engines, 4wd. But that's not a problem at all for him. He can charge at home, at the office etc. He has no range aniexty at all.

Wait till you have to charge it on a trip, good lord it could take hours at a DC fast charger while any of its competitors would have more range and leave a charging session in a FRACTION of the time this dog takes.
I had an AWD Limited bZ4X for 8 months, and traded it in because I could not count on it to be able to get me everywhere I need to go. The AWD version in North America got screwed by giving it slow charging batteries, and 80% of these cars allocated to North America are the AWD version. The FWD version may be more efficient, and DC fast charges reasonably, but the AWD never got better than 2.7 miles/KWh city, and dropped to 2 miles/kWh on freeway speeds. That, plus slower charging (an hour or more to charge to 80%), plus handicapping the car initially with max 2 cycles of DC fast charging per 24 hours, bumping to only 3.8 cycles on recent update, throttling to 13 kW or slower speeds on DCFC after that point, which means this can cannot even be a back-up road tripper. I traded it in for a Mustang Mach-E, which has been far more efficient, and reasonable for road tripping. The car parts of the bZ4X are nice. As an EV, for someone who only drives locally, it's fine. Toyota believes that EVs cannot be expected to road trip currently, so they force it to fail, and hide that "feature" in fine print in footnotes. If you want to actually go places and not worry about if it will let you DCFC, do not buy a bZ4X. On the plus side, the car I traded in is currently listed for about $42,000 and I've seen some even cheaper. If you want a nice commuter car, buy it used.
Never got better than 2.7 mi/kWh city? Was that stop & go traffic, like in NYC driving? Heck, I can easily hit 3.5 with mine in mixed traffic. Heck, I even saw that on a road trip. With the daily commute, exceeding 4 was an ordinary event.

The BZ4X is a very anemic EV offering. 242 miles is the range on FWD, but it drops to 228 if you get AWD. A fully loaded Limited is $52k, but for less money (before tax credits no less) you can get 100 miles more with a Model Y Long Range. I think Toyota slapped something together so they could boost their average fuel economy number across their fleet. It looks even more half-assed than the Mustang Mach-E.
Model Y isn't a real SUV though. With less ground-clearance and the absence of AWD on the level of Subaru performance, the longer range isn't much in comparison.
@@john1701a Absence of AWD? The Model Y is AWD standard. Moreover, no one cares if it isn't a "real" SUV, because it's a crossover. So is the BZ4X. Ground clearance doesn't amount to a hill of beans since the vast majority of CUV and SUV owners don't go off road.
I think in this market of dealer markups, going for the Subaru Solterra would be the way to go. Seems Subaru dealers (at least up here in the PNW) are not marking up their prices, one of my friends even got a great deal on their new Forester through their Costco auto buying service. As a former 2010 Prius IV owner, the BZ4X is def giving me that generation vibes- shiny black plastic and all! As a current 2021 Nissan Rogue SL owner (had to get a bigger car since I got my service dog, a very fluffy Aussie!), I'm super impressed by Nissan's tech and customer service, that when it's time to consider an EV, the Ariya would likely be at the top of my list. Depends on how and where you drive and chargers. I can get by the horrendous looks alone. As plain as it is, a Model Y is much better looking than the BZ4X.
It's fixed for 2024 year models not only software but they have a heat exchanger of some sorts and they run a different kind of warming/cooling system for the battery.
Under baked is fair, if it was $35K (vs Bolt EUV) it would be interesting, minus the dark wheel surrounds. Another good strategy is to buy an EV now so 3 years later you're not back where you were with no equity to show for it. Not buying gas or gasser maintenance.
Light grey interior looks good on camera. You asked for a light in the middle cubby and I agree its so dark in there maybe they should use a lighter color so we can see inside.
I have a 2019 etron technik which has pretty lousy range. But I have a level 2 charger in my garage and its a complete non-issue. I could see the etron being the next option when my warranty expires.
Yeah, it’s the only new Toyota vehicle in stock on their local lot where I am. You can’t buy a new Hybrid RAV4 or any other new hybrid from them, unless you don’t mind waiting a year or two for your new vehicle. but there are 5 or 6 of these ridiculously named (bz4x?, huh?) vehicles sitting there unsold….Toyota does strange things sometimes and they don’t update their vehicles often enough. And WTF is up with piano black? Nobody wants it for all sorts of obvious reasons yet so many manufacturers keep using it!

Have a BZ4X brilliant to drive. Friends have other. Makes and all seem disappointing and are considering. Changing them. Due charging problems and a low mileage from battery. I get 550. A charge the speed. Is excellent Brilliant to look at. And worth every euro.

Complete non-starter for me that software updates have to be done at the dealer. And 0-60 in 7 seconds is just ridiculous. Even base Teslas are 0-60 under 5.
I think there’s still a lot of room for improvement for the bZ4X. I know Toyota wants to make the battery work for as long as possible; but can the battery run longer than an ICE in the long run? I mean can a BEV have a longer life than an ICE car, say bZ4X vs. Rav4?

I'm not hung up on range numbers like a lot of people seem to be. My issue with the vehicle is the acceleration should be more competitive and the charging rate and software should be more competitive. And interior is just not good. I sat in it at the auto show, as well as the Solterra, and it doesn't feel spacious. There's room but somehow the console around the driver cuts into that space in the front. The rear seats seem low with the knees up. And the gloss black is just tacky, cheap and ugly. Why in the world did Toyota put so much gloss black in the interior? It just doesn't feel like a nice, quality place to sit. The RAV4 is better. The Prius is better. I like the exterior styling, like a leaner RAV4 but why the black fenders? Make them an option or a body colored fender an option. Toyota just made some bad decisions on this car. It doesn't deserve some of the knocking it gets but they just didn't do as good a job on this car that they needed to do.
A warning to those thinking about leasing the bz4X from someone who recently went through the process. The 'interest/rent charge' on a lease is $10,000 which completely wipes out the $7500 discount they're giving on leases. I get that things cost money, but the lease discount is a sweet as it looks on paper, but it is a discount.
got this car for 36k total with shipping from China 😅 and it's the ultra version with 20" wheels. Never driven brand new. This car is super cheap in China.
@@KirkKreifels the charging was 199-204 miles now 235 239 every time and if I take it down to 215 next morning it will be 223 more or less it seems to be charging faster, and if the heat is on it is more realistic.
less then 300miles full range with 4 people inside is totally rejected, Toyota must add 100kw battery or do not make any .. 71Kw battery means that only possible 65kw is usable... not cool
No car if you live in the northern part of the globe.. a friend was almost freezing to death -15 degrees Celcius during wintertime when the power went out.. no heat or anything working at all and he was just a bit outside the city….😅
It's not a terrible first effort and their next gen will be better. Once BZ4X gets built in the U.S. it will get the tax credit and sales will improve.
Literally anything else in this segment is a better buy. It has slow charging (DC and AC), poor range, below average efficiency, a limit on fast charging of around 75 kWh a day, and a very poor dash layout that is always blocked by the steering wheel. This vehicle seems designed to fail. The charging speed vs efficiency on this thing are similar to the 7 year old Bolt platform!

Corolla Cross Hybrid is the closest thing to the Prius V in the USA market.
The Camry hybrid is my favorite Toyota hybrid. Looks normal lots of room 52mpg and good performance

My test drive of this car was amazing! Very comfortable, good consumption and plenty of room. The only complaints i have are the price and the range!
Range hasn't been an issue for me, even on trips up north. With more DC chargers, that matters less anyway.

You can find them used with very low miles for considerably less. I bought my 2023 BZ4X FWD with under 2,000 miles for $38,000. I love the car.

Reported Y's range reduces half in summer due to the plain glass roof, and their EPA estimation is too optimistic

Another good strategy is to buy an EV now so 3 years later you're not back where you were with no equity to show for it. Not buying gas or gasser maintenance.

I have a 2019 etron technik which has pretty lousy range. But I have a level 2 charger in my garage and its a complete non-issue. I could see the etron being the next option when my warranty expires.
Yeah, it’s the only new Toyota vehicle in stock on their local lot where I am. You can’t buy a new Hybrid RAV4 or any other new hybrid from them, unless you don’t mind waiting a year or two for your new vehicle. but there are 5 or 6 of these ridiculously named (bz4x?, huh?) vehicles sitting there unsold….Toyota does strange things sometimes and they don’t update their vehicles often enough. And WTF is up with piano black? Nobody wants it for all sorts of obvious reasons yet so many manufacturers keep using it!

I dont understand what the gripe is with the BZ4X? Putting price aside for a second, this vehicle still has an EPA of 400KM in the FWD version - it has a heat pump too.
There are plenty of these available at my local dealership while marked down by 3-4k. That tells you all you need to know.

And soon, Tesla's chargers will be opened to a lot more brands than just Tesla.

Why so much black in car interiors these days? Honda does a lot of that as well. Surely something less dank is more desirable. Is it meant to provide some sort of illusion of space inside? I'd rather have a light beige, but preferably something in between that doesn't show dust and dirt so much.
ITS Expensive for $50k ,you can get TM3 brand new at $35k long range model, more space, more tech and OTA

Recharge time is also average not so great . So I would say it’s an average car (subjective)not bad like a lot of people are reporting. I can tell you moto journalists shouldn’t be listened to all the time as I bought BMWs of the back of the driving machine nonsense. Uncomfortable cars not for everybody. I drive one now they are not that bad but ride could be softer
Complete non-starter for me that software updates have to be done at the dealer. And 0-60 in 7 seconds is just ridiculous. Even base Teslas are 0-60 under 5.
I think there’s still a lot of room for improvement for the bZ4X. I know Toyota wants to make the battery work for as long as possible; but can the battery run longer than an ICE in the long run? I mean can a BEV have a longer life than an ICE car, say bZ4X vs. Rav4?

I'm not hung up on range numbers like a lot of people seem to be. My issue with the vehicle is the acceleration should be more competitive and the charging rate and software should be more competitive. And interior is just not good. I sat in it at the auto show, as well as the Solterra, and it doesn't feel spacious. There's room but somehow the console around the driver cuts into that space in the front. The rear seats seem low with the knees up. And the gloss black is just tacky, cheap and ugly. Why in the world did Toyota put so much gloss black in the interior? It just doesn't feel like a nice, quality place to sit. The RAV4 is better. The Prius is better. I like the exterior styling, like a leaner RAV4 but why the black fenders? Make them an option or a body colored fender an option. Toyota just made some bad decisions on this car. It doesn't deserve some of the knocking it gets but they just didn't do as good a job on this car that they needed to do.

Is it better than Model Y?
A warning to those thinking about leasing the bz4X from someone who recently went through the process. The 'interest/rent charge' on a lease is $10,000 which completely wipes out the $7500 discount they're giving on leases. I get that things cost money, but the lease discount is a sweet as it looks on paper, but it is a discount.

got this car for 36k total with shipping from China 😅 and it's the ultra version with 20" wheels. Never driven brand new. This car is super cheap in China.
I think it’s about time car companies put solar panels on top to extend the range. No reason not to.
It takes a long time to charge the score and the range is about 200 miles on a full charge so Toyota got a long way to go

@@KirkKreifels the charging was 199-204 miles now 235 239 every time and if I take it down to 215 next morning it will be 223 more or less it seems to be charging faster, and if the heat is on it is more realistic.
less then 300miles full range with 4 people inside is totally rejected, Toyota must add 100kw battery or do not make any .. 71Kw battery means that only possible 65kw is usable... not cool

No car if you live in the northern part of the globe.. a friend was almost freezing to death -15 degrees Celcius during wintertime when the power went out.. no heat or anything working at all and he was just a bit outside the city….😅

Literally anything else in this segment is a better buy. It has slow charging (DC and AC), poor range, below average efficiency, a limit on fast charging of around 75 kWh a day, and a very poor dash layout that is always blocked by the steering wheel. This vehicle seems designed to fail. The charging speed vs efficiency on this thing are similar to the 7 year old Bolt platform!
Pass. Just listening to the car as you did the 0-60 test was cringe, like nails on a chalkboard. I couldn't drive this car without some noise generator or loud music.

64 kWh is usable.
Here's my math: 4.2mi/kWh was my average efficiency. Multiply by 64kWh usable battery = 268.8 mi range with my driving.

So I’m getting rid of it and my parents are giving me their v6 Camry 😁. So the Camrys officially mine! So no more saying my mom’s Camry because turns out never drove it that much. All the beeps made her uncomfortable driving it.

HA! I have the first BZ4X delivered in America- The most I’ve ever gotten in a 2 day charge is 207. The most frustrating thing though, is the technology. Seems a little wonky. After 9 months, I stringent seem to get a handle on it. I’m teetering on the “I give up” plank. Unfortunately, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this car!!!

Total fail. No Solid State battery. Ugly as a mud fence and crappy range. Tesla Model Y a much better alternative and you get the $7500 Fed Tax credit. Oh, that paint scheme looks like a drunk skunk too.
