Imagine mistaken the real trailer with this, and taking your gf to see it in the theatre together..
😂😂😂
I was thinkig about the same
Just chilling and watching a grandma helping the dude to thrust.
Me and my girlfriend went to see this movie on a whim thinking it was some sort of coming of age film and i can assure you it was absolutely traumatizing
@@tabaxi just run if you see a teddy bear in the house....hahahaha
It would've been funny if they released this as the actual trailer to mislead the audience
I feel like they would have somewhat done something similar but after seeing how it affected Hereditary...
@@isham2044 how did it affect hereditary?
@@hot6ygirl943 it was advertise as some supernatural horror which is true but people expect it to have like "superpowers". I mean you can watch the trailer and it really looks like a different movie. Turns out when the movie first hit cinemas, alot of people were upset that it wasnt the movie that they thought it was which I found it to be so dumb because it was so much more better than anything I could have anticipated from a movie that was shown in the trailer.
Then no horror movies fans would've watched it tho
Oh those lawsuits woulda been dropping like snowflakes

Disclaimer: my sister is 25, in case someone was worried I permanently scarred her
PS: For those asking, the update is in the reply thread, she catched on to me right at the beginning, lol. she knew something shady was up and as soon as Dani starts crying she knew this wasn't a feelgood comedy LMAO but she still sat through the whole thing and said "wtf did i just watch", she even asked me to skip the sex scene 😂
Gonzalo Collao update plz 😺
@@officialamelie5012 She realized I was trolling her right at the beginning 😂 but she still watched the whole movie and asked me "wtf did i just watch"
@@gonzacollao Would this movie be okay for mature 13 year olds?
@@crescendos In terms of jumpscares, screamers and things you'd normally expect from a standard horror film, you won't get any of that. However, the imagery can be quite disturbing for some people, the situations depicted in the film are not so easy to digest... If you're fine with a certain amount of gore, strong language and explicit sexual scenes, I guess you can watch it, I'm not your dad. I wouldn't say it's scary, it's just super messed up. Hereditary is way creepier in my opinion tho.
@@crescendos yea i wouldn't let a 13 year old watch it, there's some very disturbing gore scenes and very disturbing and explicit sex scene, probably not
the horrifying thing about this movie is that 90 percent of the scenes seem like normal situations without context and could be any genre of movie. but its only those 4-5 scenes which truly make it horror. the rest of it is just anticipation. yet it's one of the scariest and bleakest movie i've ever seen
I found the whole thing really hard to watch, in a good way. The tension between them throughout the whole movie is so well done. But yeah you're right, it's just a current of dread running through the whole film
I wholeheartedly disagree with this. Even if presenting a scene without context as a normal conversation between the characters, the way it’s shot, acted, and directed lend to a suspenseful tension. The color palette and cinematography echo this as it’s meant to be muted and bleak despite the sunny setting. Even in this fake trailer when they show the drug scene, she looks troubled. It would be shot completely different in a rom com or just a movie that’s not meant to convey horror. That’s really what makes it so effective a horror film despite the seemingly cheerful setting. Ari knows how to craft suspense and atmosphere as a director instead of relying on jump scares.
ummmm what? did you watch this film? haha. i'm gonna say there are definitely more than 4-5 scenes which make it seem like horror and could not be in any other genre. i'll start with 6 (spoiler alert):
.
.
-dani's sister's suicide
-the old people jumping off a cliff
-people wearing face skin
-the orgy
-a character being burned alive in a bear suit
-drinking and eating another person's um...bodily products.
and there are a lot more, lol
Nah, Midsommar is not scary, it’s just gross...
Wtf your life must be weird then lmao. I would have dipped right away from that place
Midsommer if it actually took place during a normal midsommer
Time to write some fanfic! Lol
Yeah pretty much. Real midsommer festivals are actually nice.
are you telling me they normally don't burn people stuffed in bear suits after they drink period blood laced with tea?

@@sciencecompliance235 that part was so brutal and haunting.
Yeah that's my favorite part of this trailer, That's some serious dark humor
The thing is - this didn't actually change the movie. Like, this IS the plot of the movie.
Straight up. It’s not even forcing comedy where there wasn’t any before. All of these scenes were funny in the actual movie. I know Ari Aster has said that he only makes horror movies because nobody would pick up the script if he pitched his plots as dramas or comedies. Making genre films lets him get away with more, so horror is only the necessary vehicle, but it’s not how he initially conceives of the stories.
And thats frikin cool
No lie detected
The director actually said that Midsommar is a breakup story and Hereditary is family drama.
Technically, that's not wrong.
@@joshs7160 Right, it's a breakup story within a fairy tale (dani's ascension) within a folk horror film
And Ari Aster on the subject: "It's folk horror, but it's being given to you with the trajectory of a high-school comedy."
I thought Hereditary was boring. Maybe I couldn't relate because I never had family unit like normal but Midsommar scared the shit out me, especially watching it while recovering from a breakup and not knowing what the movie was even about before starting it
@@duckysingleton4712 I felt the exact same way. I've tried rewatching the movie multiple times but I just am still not pulled into it as Midsommar. I bought Midsommar, only rented Hereditary.
He said he was going through a break up and it inspired him. I'm like jcf what happened in your relationship? I love the movie but not a lot of people break up quite like that.
I love how playing Solsbury Hill turns every horror flick into a heartwarming romantic comedy.
Yes! They should take this as a challenge and make a whole slew of trailers set to Solsbury Hill. LOL
I opened the comment section to type this same idea. There's a video on RUclips of 'The Shining' as a romantic comedy trailer which also uses Solsbury Hill to great effect.
i would like it played at my funeral (life celebration i mean) one day
As funny as this clip is, you can't quite erase that feeling of horror

2:04 I never realized Pelle said this in the beginning of the movie, damn... that's a thought out plan right there
I also only noticed that for the first time in this trailer and I have watched the movie twice. Pelle is just stone cold evil.

Just a normal trip to Sweeden
nothing strange at all is going to happen on this very normal trip!

sike, huh?
the R rating and explanations would give it away, not to mention the reviews.
no shit that's why they made this trailer
This should've been the official trailer, but the end is a flash of the scene with Christian and the bear corpse and a sudden music change
lol
This should’ve been the trailer, but they should’ve had a horror warning at the end so it could surprise people
that's an AMAZING marketing strategy. All of a sudden you have peaked everyone's interest. Like doki doki literature club
The description 😂🤣 as soon as Pelle starts talking it goes right back to horror movie vibes, he sounds so creepy!
Pelle would have 100% tricked me. Listen, I am suspicious of every man. But every time I watch this movie I keep rooting for his evil butt lol.
Agreed 100%. They just couldn't stifle that feeling of dread.
I don’t know man, I liked Pete in the movie. So what he’s a cult member who lures people to their death? He was pretty sweet to Dani lol
I think it's because we as the audience know something will go wrong. We expect him to be a recruiting cult member and are more cautios than the protagonists
@@marshmallowPillows My trash brain over here like: Yes, he's in a murder cult, but he's so sweet and sensitive.
Wish you included Pele kiss celebrating her being the new thingy queen
May Queen.
They missed the opportunity to put in happy moments of Dany baking with her new female friends. And ginger girl flirting with her bf. Would have worked here too.
They did put in a clip of her baking
There's a lot of conversations held in strangely dark rooms for a romantic comedy.
Ari Aster is such a genius that even though this is edited to be light hearted everything still has tension, the way the lines are the delivered and the framing immediately says the opposite of comedy
What this trailer makes it look like: Dani and Christian are in a rough patch with their relationship and as they’re visiting Pelle’s home town, they both have to decide if they still want to stay with each other. On the way, Dani starts growing closer to Pelle who very clearly has feelings for her. So Dani has to choose if she still wants to be with Christian, or if she should be with Pelle instead.
What the movie actually is: Dani is an emotional wreck and is still recovering from the murder-suicide of her parents and sister. Christian is a gas-lighting jerk who doesn’t even care much for Dani and is just being in a relationship with her for the sake of avoiding confrontation. And Pelle exploits these two for his murderous cult by being the “nice guy” and manipulating the two.
Shhhhh...
Since I’ve already seen the movie, this trailer cut doesn’t prevent an unavoidable, paralyzing anxiety from overwhelming me.
Same. I can feel all the parts of the movie that are not shown in this trailer in my stomach and in my throat.
It's the lighting and cinematography, especially in the earlier scenes before they go to Sweden. It's too ominous.
"think of all the Swedish women you're going ot impreganate in June". Hilarious trailer aside, that is some great foreshadowing which totally flew over my head when I first watched it!
I actually took my mom to go see this movie when it first came out. Didn't know what I was in for. 😅
The amount of betrayal and treachery this trailer gives is terrifying. I feel bad for the people who havent watch the movie and saw this first.
Reframing a folk horror film so that it's turned into a feel-good romantic comedy is...quite a leap to say the very least! The fact that Dani herself doesn't end up tortured and murdered as well is pretty much the only plot point which prevents "Midsommar" from being the complete polar opposite of a feel-good romantic film (that and the fact that at least in the original script and the director's cut, there are clues suggesting that it is Pelle's intent to have Dani for himself).
People still assumed that it was Pelle's intent to have Dani for himself. I mean, you could also interpret it as he's "honeypotting" her to draw her into the cult and it isn't real, but I'm inclined to think that it's both, he does gain from his successful recruiting and he does actually like her.
Have you seen the recut of The Shining trailer into a romcom ?
"Dani doesn't get murdered and tortured" uhhhhh idk, what do you think is gonna happen in the aftermath of the movie 😬...
@@MacJames4444 It's fairly obvious that Dani is being groomed to become a member of the Harga (quite possibly as Pelle's partner) since the other members invite and encourage her to participate in their customs to a far greater degree than even Christian. Christian and Dani have clearly both been marked as breeding stock for the Harga (Mark might have been as well but we don't have confirmation for it). However, Dani has a more pliant and dependent personality than Christian has -- especially after being psychologically traumatized by the murder/suicide staged by her sister -- which in several ways makes her a good fit for the communal lifestyle of the Harga and therefore more suitable as a potential recruit than as a sacrifice. From the outside, it could be argued that the Harga are subtly torturing Dani since they are trying to control and manipulate her to the point that she begins to identify with them -- in all fairness, nobody in this film could really be described as psychologically healthy and all the characters including Dani are manipulative to at least some extent. The irony of cults, however, is that the members typically do not describe what they are experiencing as torture -- often quite the reverse -- and indeed choose to remain even in the absence of any physical coercion.
@@OreadNYC Hmmm, I guess it depends on what you would describe as torture. What you said can coexist with what I said. In particular, it does seem true that Dani is being groomed to be partnered with Pelle in some sort of way, but consider that (a) Pelle had like 0 qualms about kissing Dani earlier in the movie when she had been drugged and (b) the festival isn't over (it's stated to be a 9 day festival but the movie does not run for that long) and there's a lot of fertility and reproduction stuff in the festival. Dani seems at high risk of experiencing some sort of ritualized sexual violence in the remaining span of the festival.

This is a perfect summer movie. I love the teddy bear in the end. Their relationship outcome may not be perfect-the guy pursued his academic goals while Dani found her inner peace-but the movie would surely leave you speechless.🤩

What do you mean? This was the movie.
They need that happy voice-over guy saying “A24 presents, a trip that will change her life… forever!”
