Like I don't want to call it "frustrating" but its really tiring to go against nurse like 10 games in a row. Most of those games being Nurse/Huntress, so you just see on the side "revealed" and now you have a Nurse blinking straight at you. Something very similar happened in League when they introduced a game mode called URF (Ultra Rapid Fire) in which all cooldowns are shorter and no mana costs, which led to super fast and chaotic gameplay, the devs realized that after it ended, they would always lose players. I do have to set the record straight. The lost player things is highly questionable. They refused to show any kinds of stats to back that up where they excluded other reasons people stopped playing, such as them messing up massively and not bringing the mode back for another full year, nor as a permanent queue, nor custom games, nor improving the main game so it satisfied more players. And then the year after they actually refused to bring it back another time until they probably lost even more players.

If gamemodes coexisted then you'd get a repeat of L4D2 mutation situation. Mutations used to cycle weekly and as a result queue times for them were usually quick. 2:20 I think it's also worth pointing out that even with how popular Chaos Shuffle was, it still only required 5 people to get one match going. 2v8 just by the nature of how it works requires double the normal amount of players to get one match going, on top of seemingly being more popular. I think this also contributes to the normal queues struggling right now.

    • @Barec76
      @Barec76 Месяц назад +1

It's all ratio. Doesn't matter how many people are queueing for the game. It's the ratio that matters. You can have 8 survivors and 4 killers waiting for a match or you can have 800 survivors and 400 killers. The ratio is the same.

    • @iFerrex

In the quick blender mode you don't know what role you're going to get. The mode assumes people want to play killer more than survivor. When playing as survivor, players are earning their way to the next killer match. Their score would be based on emblems, and once they got enough "emblem credit" as survivor they'd get queued up as killer. Those with the most emblem credit would be the priority queue for killers. While im a person who loves making builds and combining perks, theres just too many at this point. perks are why its so hard to balance the game currently. theres like over 200 perks and the game needs balanced around them. like how many perks are borderline useless while others are super strong? how many times have certain perks been reworked or nerfed because 1 or 2 killers can exploit them? you have to wonder how much dev time is wasted balancing around perks

6:45 I think the easiest and simplest way to fix this problem is to just make 2v8 a permanent mode. Then the 60% get what they want and the 40% still have what they want.
It's also incredibly eye-opening and downright shocking how 2v8 seems to unintentionally solve almost every long-running problem in dbd. It's crazy. Here's a short list.
-Tunneling, having the cages move makes it harder to tunnel off hook, and having 8 players means tunneling one of them out is way less advantageous.
-Camping, can't camp if the cage moves, limiting killers to proxy camp, which is less effective overall with 8 players, on top of proxy camping being less good compared to normal camping. So it effectively fixed two of, if not the biggest, problems in dbd, practically overnight and with no effort. 2v8 never intended to fix anything, but somehow tackled and defeated two of dbd's biggest issues. It's wild!
-Stress on both sides, much less stressful as killer with a friend, and just way more fun, to be honest. And it's way less stressful as surv with 7 other people pulling for you. It makes the game go from this sweaty solo comp feeling to cracking open a cold one and just playing some games with my buddies. I've had friends who hated playing killer because of it being too comp/sweaty/stressful try this mode and love playing killer. I've had friends who don't even like dbd try surv with 7 other people and love it cause now if they suck and die it doesn't get them flamed in the endgame chat for turning the game into a 3v1.
-Overpowered perks/builds, the class system takes a big shit all over BHVR's biggest concern every patch, which is perk balance and over usage of certain perks. The class system gets rid of all that. 2v8, coming through again, seemingly balanced the whole game, again, overnight.
And again, this is just a short list of some of the more major issues. It's not even mentioning some of the smaller known issues like dbd being pay to win, because you need to get all the perks and killers to compete or stuff like having to grind the bloodweb effectively being gone because of 2v8. 2v8 doesn't require you to go to the bloodweb at all if you don't want to.
2v8, honestly, feels like what the game should have been all along. I haven't played dbd this much in months and after 2v8 is gone, I expect to go back to that. I think after seeing 2v8 in action and what it has done and what it can do, I think BHVR need to sit down and have a very serious meeting about the mode.

One of the big reasons its less stressful is because when you have 8 players on your team, your individual performance is less impactful on the outcome of the game than when you're 1 of 4 players on a team. This is why in TF2, with 16 players per team, you can have one or two players completely goofing off and still have a good chance of your team winning any game mode.

One of my issues for 2v8 is that I genuinely think there's an absurd amount of aura reading. Trying to sneak off and recover is damn near impossible half the time survivor side. Scouts casually delivering aura reading on the killers. Gens popping and revealing you. A gen is kicked and you're revealed. There's so much that it generally removes the concept of stealth which is a bit annoying. Scott completely misunderstands what's going on here, I suppose he's letting his own bias cloud the reality. As he said, survivor queue times are instant. This does not simply mean "because this mode is more popular". Because 2v8 has the same ratio of killers to survivors, instant survivor queues show that people are not nearly as interested in playing as survivor in this mode. THAT'S the problem. Scott says he likes survivor in this mode more, but that is NOT the average opinion. Without carrying, survivors have less to do (no offensive play to save others, no palleting while pick up, no flashlighting, no bodyblocking, etc), there's not as much feeling of accomplishment when you run a killer, and without perks, there is less room for customization and variety. Killers lacking perks doesn't hurt as much because they have the new mechanic of working together, but survivors have no new mechanic -- only less. Once I finished the 2v8 tomb, I was completely uninterested in playing as survivor in 2v8, because there's barely a new experience to be had.
I had fun with killer in 2v8 like everyone else has, but once completing the tomb, I personally don't find the queue time to be worth the wait. I'm glad this mode is going offline in a week, and I'm glad Behavior is going to work on it. I look forward to more killers and to see the tweaks they're going to make -- but the elephant in the room is that Behavior is going to have to figure out is how to make playing survivor more fun in 2v8. You can't remove mechanics from a role that already leans toward repetitive, without adding anything new for that role.

I said the mode is more popular because the ORIGINAL game queue times are also significantly worse. Every other alternative game mode we had did not have this issue, thus its a logical conclusion that more people are playing 2v8 overall, even with the obvious killer imbalance. Killer queues are like 5x as long in 1v4 as well, which does not agree with your claim. If it were true, killer queues would be instant in 1v4 because no killer wants to play that mode when 2v8 exists. Obviously I don't have the data but what other conclusion could I come to with the queue times? You are also basing your "average opinion" off of what? Solo-queue Survivor main here:
The chaos can be fun/silly, but it's really hard to feel like anything I'm doing ultimately matters. Toolboxes and flashlights you find are pretty much useless (especially after gens are done). Since there's no pick up mechanic, pallets are only useful for chases, which might not matter if both Killers are on you. You really need everybody to gen rush at the start, or else it feels difficult/impossible to make an escape. Or it's the total opposite and the Killers just seem too uncoordinated/new.
I ultimately feel like I do in 1v4, only now, I have more gens to rush (because all those Escapists and Scouts aren't touching them), less control over how I can evade and escape (especially with so many aura reveals), and the only compliement I can give is that at least the matches are over relatively quickly (which isn't fully a compliment in my opinion, but some 1v4 matches can go on for a whiiiile).

The main problem lies in the fact that killer is just so much more fun than survivor. Killer in 2v8 offers a completely unique experience, while for survivor it is still too similar to the regular mode.
Heck, even the classes can pretty faithfully be recreated using perk builds.
To combat this in the long term, they have to change up the survivor gameplay more, give it a unique twist, too, aside from literally just more of the same. Maybe a different objective, more unique classes that cannot be achieved with perks normally, etc.

DBD matches are so heavily skewed by what each side brings to the match, and with the assumption that the other side is bringing the sweatiest perks and items, why would you ever make a fun build, especially since all perks are free to use once you actually get them and you most likely have thousands of the best addons and items? I played like 5 games of solo survivor on 2v8 and now really just want to play normal DbD again as Killer, but queue times are so long I have to play a whole other game (or like sort Magic cards) while in queue; it's not about the BP, I miss fast queues to play this game when I want to play a match.

I LOVE this mode so much. Online Multiplayer games have been 90% if not more of what I've played in the last 15 years but as I get older, I don't want to deal with the intense stress of these games as much. I switched a year ago from Apex Legends to Dead by Daylight for this exact reason. DBD is less stressful. And yet, here I am taking breaks constantly from DBD to get away from the stress. And then here comes 2v8, where there's almost comparably so much less stress on both killer and survivor side and I LOVE it! I love it so much. It's so much less stressful. It's so chaotic. It's so fun. I tried to go back to 1v4 and I hated it. I played 1 match and threw because I didn't want to deal with the stress and went straight back to 2v8. 2v8 is great and I like the ideas you presented for why this mode is so much more fun because I totally agree.

I think one particular mechanical component of 2v8 that is helping its popularity is its automatic Pyramid Head style cage system. That system is a win-win. For killers it means a lot less time spent carrying survivors to hooks and it eliminates the nuisance of being cautious to avoid flashlight and pallet stuns when picking survivors up. And on the survivor side it means there is a lot less incentive to leave survivors slugged on the ground for extended periods and when you get caged you’ll be far away from that killer which incentivizes them to go chase someone else afterward rather than pseudo patrol your hook.
It almost makes me wish 1v4 just used this system instead of the normal carry to hook method. Of course taking that out does eliminate things like backpack builds and makes flashlights less fun for survivors who like them, but I suspect that in balance overall the game might be fun using the instant cages and that tradeoff would be mostly positive for the game. That said, it would be a TON of development work to implement that it 1v4 because it would require a big overhaul of a lot of perks and some abilities, etc, so even if the devs agreed that it could be a useful 1v4 feature it probably wouldn’t be worth the time and effort to do unfortunately. 🤷‍♂️

It would be a radical departure, but we could possibly fix 1v4 in a similar way.
Increase the number of generators from 5 to 7
Increase the number of hooks before death from 3 to 4
Reduce the effectiveness of slowdown perks.
Reduce the effectiveness of gen speed perks.
Toolboxes can't be used on generators anymore, but can sabotage hooks
On hook, randomize the survivors location so that camping and tunneling is improbable. Move the survivor again if the killer stays too close to the survivor after they've been hooked twice in a row
Basically, the goal is to reduce the impact of any individual chase or gen loss by giving more of both. 2v8 is generally less stressful because each interaction is lower impact, slugging, tunneling and camping literally don't exist and the perks aren't all gen speed or chase related. 2v8 accidentally fixed all of DBD's issues, but some of that magic could be replicated I think by at least attempting to reduce the impact of any individual chase or hook state, and making sure that tunneling and camping are very rare

It's not a solution for 2v8, but if implemented, I could see this taking some of the stress out of the main mode, and thus alleviating the load on 2v8 a bit--Video Horror Society had a mechanic where its perks had a point value, and each character had a limited points budget they could use to make their build. Adopting a similar system in DBD could help a lot in dealing with some of the balance issues surrounding killers with very oppressive powers, like Nurse and Blight. Assign a higher point cost to stronger perks and those with particularly nasty synergy with already-powerful killers, and give the higher-tier killers a lower perk budget.
This could also make on-the-fly balancing easier by allowing BHVR to tweak the numbers in response to broken perk combos being discovered when reworks aren't immediately possible.

I think the lack of RNG is really important too, the "perks" in 2v8 are all fairly balanced unlike the base game, addons don't exist, most of the killers and maps(?) are unavailable, so the gap between worst RNG (enemy has full meta build and got a good map) and best RNG (enemy has garbage build and you got a good map) is way smaller

  • @kingvii2604
    @kingvii2604 Месяц назад +1

Best way to fix this IMO is as follows.
2v8 stays limited time but gets implemented into the game more often. Say one month on then 2-3 weeks off for improvements/ new killers being added. Every time it comes back they add 1-2 killers until we get to the point that all the killers are available to play. Once that point is reached they don’t remove the mode and now DBD has 2 modes. They get updated as new killers/etc drop. They need to add more maps and of course more classes on both sides as time goes so it stays some what fresh. Leave the perks out on 2v8 ALWAYS. IMO this would allow the transition of the new mode but not kill the main mode. With q times as is for the regular mode right now I’m not incentivized to buy the next killer because i won’t see them hardly ever. This is something BHVR knows as well. Which is why 2v8 is limited and likely needs to stay that way for awhile. Which is why I think the above plan is a good compromise to the alternative of losing the mode all together to a once a year in game event.

Thoughts on how the base game could improve based on this:
Cages are an excellent mechanic, allowing the killer to go back to playing the game while making it harder to camp/tunnel, and often putting survivors in an easily-unhookable position, letting them get back to gameplay. It would require substantial testing and tuning, but I honestly think it would help the base game be more fun to make this a more common mechanic - perhaps as a killer/survivor perk, or a map-dependent change/variant to the game, or even just an option for the killer to choose when they feel it's appropriate.
Part of what's enjoyable about the chaos is how often you reconsider and change what you're doing. Killers hate when survivors all just hide, survivors hate just sitting forever at a generator. In 2v8, your priorities are shifting pretty much nonstop. What I think I'd take from this to the base game is to make there be MORE instances of interaction, but to have each be less committal. I'm imagining a system where Survivors all have 3 hook-states before death instead of 2, there are 7 gens instead of 5, but generators and healing progress proportionally faster, and killers perhaps gain some kind of 'stalking' buff which increases their speed when no Survivors are nearby (a sort of reverse bloodlust, I guess. An 'impatience' mechanic). It acts like a whispers-type radar effect to help find survivors, and gets the killer moving from chase to chase quicker.
Overall, the goal I think is to try and retool the game to reduce downtime. Add mechanics that get killers spending more time chasing survivors, and which reduce the time that both sides spend stuck doing the 'chores' of gameplay.

League of Legends published that URF mode was extremely popular, but after it rotated out the playerbase for League of Legend's normal (and ranked) playerbase would actually diminish afterwards. So they made the decision to stop having URF show up because it was actually harmful to the normal game's playerbase to contrast the game with a more fun, less stressful game mode.
This is a very funny story to me.
I definitely think one of the solutions is just to, you know, switch the primary dev form of DBD to 2v8? It'd be a pretty insane workload to try to convert so much of the game to it, but hey. Skins will still sell. It'd be a monstrous workload to do inventory and rebalance for all the perks in the game though, but also maybe fun for the devs to try new things in a new design space? League had too much wrapped up in ranked/pro-scene to do a pivot, but also the pivot is both risky and immensely high workload?
I think it'd be cool though.

    • @maxomega3
      @maxomega3 Месяц назад +1

League still has URF every few months. It usually is the one that dwindles in playerbase after a while so that's why it rotates.
As for the permanent switch to 2v8, it's a fun idea but I'm not sure it's sustainable. Part of the reason the game is so stress-free is because it has no perks or maps no one dislikes. I'm not sure DBD could survive long-term without perks and thats ignoring the fact they've already been in the game since launch and been paid for by its entire playerbase, meaning they cant just get rid of them.
There are definitely some lessons they could take from 2v8 though. I think cages are an improvement from hooks (but maybe they don't move away from the killer once gates are powered), and no map offerings are also a welcome sight to most players (doesn't hurt there are no bad maps either, but they're not just throwing away RPD and midwich in the normal mode).

As someone who sucks at survivor I've personally had a lot of fun with the runner class in chase. The shorter cooldown on sprint burst and the bonus move speed while injured has made learning to loop much less frustrating and more fun/rewarding to learn. Also helps that you're up against 2 of the same 5 killers each game so I don't feel like I have to learn an entirely new character each time I load in.
Getting double tapped feels kinda bad I guess but I personally don't mind it since having 2 killers on you usually means your teammates are more likely to be getting stuff done elsewhere on the map. If it seems too killer sided as the game mode progresses though they could always implement some sort of mini 1-3 second endurance effect after getting your first hit. Admittedly though the other half of why I'm playing survivor so much is the bloodpoint bonus so giving the other classes something more interactive to do wouldn't be a bad idea (stealth mode button for Scouts, insta heals/For the People for Healers, etc.)

Maybe if they reworked the entire game to accommodate to cages it'd be okay but throughout that process they definitely kill the game.

@Racc-Kun_YT "Skill based interactions" like going down under a pallet and calling it out to your buddies? Like body blocking a hook? Like getting a flashbang save while the killer is staring at a wall? Like getting a flashlight save with background player? Like skillfully sabotaging a hook, which they just made easier? Maybe you mean skillfully wiggling out with a perk that makes it easier? Or do you mean skillful interactions like a killer deciding whether or not to camp a hook for a trade? None of that is good for the game. Survivors have plenty of resources on maps to win games without the ridiculous hook denial meta. Killers can win without camping. The game would be more fast paced and less tedious if the killer could go from chase to chase and didn't always have the option to make any unhook a headache.

@@prkrdp If you lose hooks to any survivor based play then that is because of a skill issue. You just sound like you're whining with every example you give. Cages would 100% be a good change for survivors in every way imaginable at high level play. If survivors are chasing you around for saves they aren't doing gens which is a good thing for you as the killer, with the cage mechanic they will have nothing to do but sit on gens. It would make the gameplay loop for survivors insanely boring in the process but I don't see cages being good for killers when so many players already whine about "gen rushing".

stomp cages take all the altruism out of survivor. No saves etc. It makes survivor stale af

@@prkrdp thats pretty much a majority of the fun in survivor. working as a team ya dunce. If its stomp cages its just boring gen simulator and everyone just stays on them and there is nothing to do. As a killer youd lose almost every match.

They should make a mode where both sides have a preset loadout because that's probably the reason why this gamemode is so popular right now, it could be a ranked mode if they balance it well enough

The 2v8 mode has pretty much convinced me we need DBD to split into a "Competitive" mode and a casual one. Going back to 1v4 feels like a huge sweatfest in comparison.
Make that mode competitive, add a public "rank", and then let people go crazy and have fun in the casual mode.

I disagree. 2v8 may be very fun for killers, but its miserable for survivors. The most fun part of being a survivor is getting chased by the killer, outsmarting them and winning mindgames. You can't really have that in 2v8 cuz you constantly get two-tapped and demolished cuz you physically cannot deal with two killers at once. There is no outsmarting or mindgaming involved. You just die. Factor in the fact that another incredibly fun part of survivor gameplay is removed in this mode (that being pallet/flashlight/flashbang saves since the killers can insta-cage) and 2v8 basically becomes a gen-repairing/healing simulator where you are unable to communicate with your teammates because everything is so chaotic.

2v8 is the start of DBD2 and we can't change that. Acceptance is the first stage.

I think a big part of it is that people forget this is a game in 1v4 and try way to hard but it’s difficult to take 2v8 seriously, just like you said, people are always saying the game is killer sided, the game is survivor sided, people just need to accept that you win some and you lose some and just try to have fun with it more than constantly being so try hard.
