Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel and lovely greetings from Jersey City in New Jersey.
Today´s video will be the beginning of a new video series called "25 THINGS A PILOT HAS TO DO".
One of the things on my list is to fly around New York in a helicopter.
FLYNYON was so kind to invite me to their helipad in Jersey City to take me on a 30-minute flight around New York City and Manhatten.
After getting my safety gear on, pilot Christi did a thorough check that all my camera gear was securely fastened to my harness and we were ready to head to the helicopter. A beautiful Eurocopter was waiting on it´s platform.
Christi did all her preflight checks, warmed up the turbine and seconds later we were airborne, flying inbound to New York City.
First stop, Statue of Liberty. I´ve seen her in so many movies and getting that close was breathtaking. Christi was dealing with ATC clearances as we entered the city and still had some time to mention the sightseeing spots we were flying by, impressive multitasking :)
Next stop, Battery Park, "Okay you guys, this is the money shot, get out your cameras". As we hovered at about 1000 feet above the Hudson River we all had the chance to take beautiful pictures of Manhattan Downtown. Then we headed northbound up the East River, performing a low pass over Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. Then we turned Northwest bound giving us an amazing view over Central Park. Gently hovering down to the famous "Flat Iron" building and over to the Empire State Building, literally seeing people waving at us.
Then a nice steep turn back to Hudson River, standing by for a clearance to get closer to the Freedom Tower. "You´re in luck you guys, I was able to get a 360 around the Freedom Tower, so hold on". We got an amazing view of the 911 memorial pools, the new Oculus building and the Freedom Tower.
After the 360 around Manhattan, we headed back to Jersey City in a gradual descent towards the landing pad. After a smooth touch down my first helicopter flight was over and I was completely blown away by it.
FLYNYON for sure knows how to treat their passengers, making sure you get the most out of your flight time.

Captain Joe, excellent video & great music. You sure are living the Life man!!! I'm 58 years old & never been on a helicopter yet. My dad started flying Cesna's before they even had radio's in them. He told me he would just use the compass & landmarks to find his way. Wow!!! we sure have come a long way baby!!!

Great video. Interesting to see. I would be a bit shaky about hanging out my feet. I'm deathly afraid of heights. I'm ok in planes enclosed but not in the open like that. Yikes.

Hi Captain Joe, I accidentaly saw one of your videos and found it interesting. So I am watching them one by one. And this one is like power for my dreams, because I started to learn flying a helicopter Guimbal Cabri G2 in Czech Republic. Even though I already have only 16hours so flying as profesional as does pilot Christi is only the dream future, but I agree with her, because flying a helicopter is much more fun that fixed-wings. And much more load for the pilot to manage everything.
But as I understood of your videos, flying at general is very hard, but awesome! So thank you for your explanation videos and meet you in the air some day :)
I love your videos, I have been watching for quite some time, but I have never flown in a plane. I flew in a Chinook CH-47 once for about 5 minutes when I was 7 at the Oshkosh Air Show.

Nice video, brings back memories for me. I flew out of Teterboro in a 172 and a 152 out of Chester County Airport CT after a check flight to Hartford CT. Then we did a Helicopter ride from the west side of NY, around the 42nd st area, looked like where you were? I liked the ambience of the interview too, nice and relaxed but interesting, good job.

Those are some amazing views! From that high up, you don't see how dirty the city is! :)
Next on the pilot bucket list: Do the Nice - Monaco transfer on MonacAir. It's 7 minutes and not too expensive but beautiful. They & HeliAir Monaco both do sightseeing flights too.
This is on my to do list before I die now! Its amazing! And they have so many cities, SF and Miami look best imo :)
