I met Clifton Chenier in the 80's. He was not only a great musician, but a true gentleman with those exquisite Southern manners. I adored him. He was on dialysis at the time - one day in the hospital, one day feeling horrible, one day to play and get on the road to the next gig and the next dialysis machine. His grace under this pressure was an inspiration to everyone around him.
1982 Tipitinas during the first weekend of the NO Jazz Festival.....Lordie, the power of good music, CC had me rollin into the streets outside the club this hot night into morning.....merci for the memories . RIP to CC and Buckwheat xo from a jolie brunette
From a Sonny Landreth song: "I woke up in Mississippi, in '51/ migrated next door, became a Native Stepson/Grew up on the rhythm of Clifton and Cleveland, and The Red Hot Louisiana band.....Allon Danser!". From the song South of I-10.
@MsHoly777 I think he was all of them. They came to him - not him to them - and G-D bless them all. Jazz, Blues, Dopsie - CC opened the door. Mark of the Master.
"Laisse le bon temps couler" may be how you would say it in Paris or something but this phrase is idiomatic in Louisiana; it's not a mistake when they say "rouler." (Sorry for responding to such an old comment but it's shown prominently and I'd hate for it to become a source of shame/doubt for the few native French speakers left in Louisiana who may watch this video.)
In France: Laisse le bon temps Rouler, or, laisse le bon temps Couler: veut dire: "laisse faire relax et profite au maximum de ce bon temps; This good time -take it easy ! The Good Times Roll.
It's a creole language or dialect. Spelling tends to be phonetic, and why not? The Academie Française may disapprove, but it adds to the richness of life.
i learned to dance in front of Clifton Chenier. once saw him live in Elton, Louisiana. the crowd numbered about 50. i was 8 or 9 years old.

This should be "bon temps" in the spelling although the pronunciation is the same as "ton"
The record is Bon Ton Roulet. Look it up.

@earl973 on dirait pas non plus, tout simplement, laisse le bon temps rouler?
Je dirais plus: Laissez (plural) le bon temps rouler... Let The Good Times Roll!
Ce n'est pas "le bon ton roulet" mais :"laisse le bon temps rouler"
Ou, avec... "Bontemps"... ?Mais, Oui?
