Give her a break you know nothing about the lassie so don't comment such scathing attacks on the poor girl. Shame on you.
I often watch this when I get depressed. It’s so uplifting & inspirational. The look on Susan’s face right before she sings really gets me: she is about to transport herself to a world few of us get to visit. You can tell how much she loves singing. Bravo, Susan. And thank you.
Look at this. LOOK! It's efforless for her! It's like breathing. That voice comes out without a tiny bit of struggle. Unbelievable. This is something you are born with.
+Brian N of course they fucking are. I know her, and believe me, she has NOT had professional help to sing like that. "Can a baby sing like that?".. i think you're the idiot, here. Being "born like that" or "born with an ability to do something" it means you're just naturally good at it.
Sophie Muirhead " it means you're just naturally good at it." and what does THAT mean? Think hard for a second. At what age then if not a baby does the person get naturally good at something? 2, 3 years old? Does her voice suddenly snap and sound like this powerful voice? No. It requires a lot of vocal training. I imagine I know what "born like that" means, but I think most people here including yourself are the real idiots and haven't thought that phrase through. I think people like to use natural talent as an excuse so they don't have to come to the painful realization that hard work can get you the same skill as someone like Susan Boyle. And natural talent doesn't really exist. Their might be 2% natural voice to help with certain things, but the rest is all training. Thinking it's all natural talent is called rationalization and it's a defence mechanism. Do you know Susan Boyle in person?
+Brian N Think what you want, but funnily enough it is a thing. Many, many people with voices like that do not practice constantly, they do not go to training, but they do have voices like that because that's just the way they are. And a natural ability can be displayed whenever. Why does it have to be during childhood that all of these "natural abilities" have to be made visible, because they don't. For example, I'm naturally good at art. I don't sit and practice for hours and I certainly don't get "special training" to be good at drawing. I just am. It's a natural talent, just like thousands and thousands of other things are. Yes, I do know her in person, but regardless of how or why I know her, you do not have to be trained to be good at something.
I have watched this clip .. for years now.. and I never fail to cry tears of joy. What an amazing human being. A truly extrodinary moment for BGT. Plus... to watch Simon being smitten is a bonus. ; ) Thank You Susan Boyle .. for your beautiful voice and an awesome life lesson in humility.

Me too - I'll never admit it, but this video brings tears to my eyes... and I'm not the kind of guy that anyone would ever think that of... great story.
To remember my Dad who died in my arms a week ago today. We watched this at least once a day for the last few years because we love to cheer for the Under Dog. my Dad asked in a whisper hours before he died to watch this, as always the tears streamed down our faces. I love you Dad, I'll keep watching always
Me, and the condescension of Simon and the presenters always makes me nauseous. What enjoyment (and what tears too) to see them come down just after the first second!
I love seeing the look on everyone's faces when she's talking before she starts singing. Everyone thinks she is crazy...no one believes in her and then....she blows the doors of the joint.
From interviews you can tell Susan has a very special place in Simon's heart, and that's so sweet! She's a living angel and deserves the world! I love how much Simon cherishes and protects her❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This happened to Susan Boyle over 5 years ago!! Amaaaaazing audition. I never get tired of watching this. Never. It's so awesome to watch people change their opinions of others, in an instant..we should never "judge a book by its cover" but people do it anyway. This was, in my opinion, the BEST audition on Britain's Got Talent history.
lol, i guess you never judge someone by their cover, you are perfect. its pretty normal and natural to judge someone from there looks, thats human instinct it has nothing to do with being a jerk
2019..after a decade, God only knows how many times i have watched again and again and again this incredible performance. and every time i watch, i have always this same reaction of awe. susan boyle, continue the spirit of inspiration.
"Boyle sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables in the first round, which was watched by over 10 million viewers when it aired on 11 April 2009. ... Afterwards, Elaine Paige expressed interest in singing a duet with Boyle, and called her "a role model for everyone who has a dream". Boyle's rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" was credited with causing a surge in ticket sales in the Vancouver production of Les Misérables. Cameron Mackintosh, the producer of the musical, also praised the performance, as "heart-touching, thrilling and uplifting"."

Yes, whenever I return to watch and listen to her her fantastic Britain's Got Talent performance and beautiful singing ability/voice, it brings tears to my eyes. Even more than that, the year of her win, I had a lovely girl kitty who also appreciated her singing. She would come to sit in my lap and quietly stay there for for as long as I replayed Susan's singing.
Me too, truly amazing. When she walked out everybody judged her, and she proved them so so wrong. Beautiful performance always brings a tear to my eye.
I'm so glad to see others have reacted this way. For a long time I thought I was just becoming a weepy old man as I aged. It's comforting to know others have been moved to tears as well.
I 'm from California, but was on vacation in London when this was first aired. Was getting ready to go out to dinner and had hotel telly tuned to BBC for Britain's Got Talent. Out walks this older, plump woman with frizzy hair. Like everyone else I figured this was some kind of joke. I sat down on the bred to watch the fun begin. The music started and she opened her mouth and sang...so .beautifully! I was amazed and and thrilled with her initial, debut performance Bravo Susan
@Susan Kerr yes we know that. The whole loint is saying leople in general judge by looks..that if you dont fit the mold of slim fit and hot then no one will take you seriously as in this case it was quite the opposite.
almost 10 years later still the best audition that set the stage for creating drama due to low expectation. I wish they would have shown the faces of those 2 women making faces in the beginning after she started singing.
Knowing she’s on the spectrum make this so much more touching. You can see the pure joy in her face. She’s so pure. And gifted. This makes me cry every time I watch haha. How everyone was being so mean and then immediately started cheering. This was an awesome moment in pop culture
I must have watched this 50 times. I get the chills every single time I watch it. When I feel down and need a pick me up, I watch this. It's make you feel so good. A woman who so harshly judged, sang like an angel. Susan I wish you the very best of everything and thank you for being so inspiring.
The greatest moment in television talent history. I bawl my eyes out everytime I see this. Her voice, her humor before hand, and her emotion afterwards, and the emotion of everyone watching her just be her. Susan you are incredible!
aren't you judging with your post? Also, have you never been judgemental and often got it right and a few times got proved wrong? humans are what they are; the day we admit what we are and look at ourselves in a mirror without filtering devices, only then will we be able to evolve respect others and respect our environment. humans are what they are nothing more and certainly less than what they think they are. You are another proof of that with your comment.
daniel calvi there’s one problem with your comment. The person you responded to said “SO judgmental” which means that you shouldn’t be a certain amount of judgmental. They never said that you shouldn’t be judgmental at all. Context is important.
Given that Ant and Dec had just said that until that point the show had been lacking Talent we must assume that the audience by then was getting a little fed up, wondering if they were ever going to get something worth coming for. Be honest, if you had sat through dozens of awful acts would you be expected Susan to be your saviour? That is what makes this so special, preconceived notions being overturned; the audience would have been awaful if they had refused to listen to the evidence of their own ears and given her a lukewarm response, they did not do that, they accepted that they had made a mistake, welcomed her into their hearts and stood as one to applaud someone truly special; which at the end of the day is what makes this such a powerful video which people come back to watch time and again.
We are all judgmental, human nature, up to a point, the audience the same, when it came to it they we racously approving and supportive, can't call them and anyone here that at that and at this point. The audience and judges whilst seemingly judgemental on the onset weren't 'proven wrong', like everyone just needed time to appreciate, which they did and roared their approval..
Relax-O-Vision That is something that really pisses me off. Does it even matter if she doesn't dress fancy or she ain't that young? Geez, save that ugly look in your eyes and fucking listen
With recent events, i've come to realize how archaic the world still is with regards to appearances, nationalities and diversity. I can't really wrap my head around it. How boring would life be without different people.. to me thats part of what makes it so great.
Yes indeed!! A wonderful moment in music history. A real inspiration to many many people. And a terrific example to us all about overcoming adversity and lesson about the equality and importance of ALL human beings. I truly admire this woman. I believe you can't sing like that without knowing heartache and what love truly is.
People giving a standing ovation to Susan after the first notes just make me cry of happiness❤❤❤ I always come back to watch this incredible inspirational audition and I love Susan way more each time! She deserves the World❤❤❤❤❤
It was the most amazing performance that I’ve ever seen and never forgotten all these years later. She wiped the arrogant pompous smiles off all three judges faces and many of the audiences faces. She taught many of us not to judge others on appearances alone. Susan Boyle, full of humility and inner beauty.
No one has ever deserved to win a national talent show more than her. Would have gone unnoticed for the rest of her life if it wasn't for this show...just because she doesn't look like your typical artist; unnecessarily dolled up just to 'look the part'.
Kind of glad that Diversity won (and whatever happened to them? I think they just "disappeared into the sunset". If SuBo would have won, she would have been tied in with a contract from Britain's Got Talent and probably wouldn't have the success she's had today.
I love seeing them women's faces in the audience being nasty about her knowing that afterwards they are regretting it. This is the best audition ever I get goosebumps every time!
I guarantee you that those reaction clips were taken from a completely different time during the show, at a time when Susan Boyle wasn't even on stage. The editors of these reality shows just throw unrelated clips together to make it look like they are related. Honestly, I doubt that really anyone in the building was against her at all.
Can you believe it's already been 10 years since this legendary moment in singing history happened?! And yet, it never gets old! Susan has come a long way since then and has made a great image for herself in the world of singing. She's become one of the best singers in the world! She is in a league of her own!
Susan is so inspirational to me. A prime example of someone who went from nothing to the top of the heap because they never gave up on their dream. Any young person out there should watch this and take heed. Nothing is impossible.
“Amanda you too?” She obviously didn’t realise how good she was and wasn’t expecting one yes, and then getting a second one would’ve been a big shock to her
As someone with Asperger's Syndrome, this audition gives me hope. Whenever I doubt myself for never having any friends, never having a girlfriend, never being kissed, being bullied throughout high school, or any other reason, I come and watch this audition. It gives me hope for humanity and shows me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I truly believe that who you are on the inside is all that matters, but unfortunately, life is very cruel at times, and makes me question this idea. Thank you Susan Boyle for giving me hope for my life. You are living proof that every life is meaningful, and that being an awesome person on the inside means more than your looks.
Oh God. Simon would have been hitting that button as fast as he could and as many times as he could. I mean did you see his facial expression at 4:24, he's totally in love with her voice.
To have been in that audience that day... what a privilege to witness this historical event. I love watching Amanda's and Pierce's faces (4:07 to 4:13) They look like children who are completely enchanted. Touches my heart beyond words.
I cried at the end of seeing Susan Boyle's performance even though I'd seen it years ago. Still frosted that Simon is the ONLY one who did not stand up. She really gave them a run!
He is not one to react on the surface but you could see his sheer delight on his face during the song and later on during an interview stated he felt a feeling during the song that he had never felt before or after. Just look at his face during the last part of the song. He looked like a school girl in love LOL
Maybe he was weak in the knees. This is a guy who *knows* stardom, and like Mr. Cole says, look at his face. He's bathing in the knowledge that he's having the rare treat of seeing a true star be born right in front of his eyes. Most of the time in these shows, you can tell who's _good_ right out of the gate; this time, he could tell that she was a _winner._
Hes much different now shows more empathy stand a lot more now. Would be funny if back in those days after a great performance someone poked him with a pin so he would jump up out of his chair 😂
We all keep coming back to this because that wonderful Lady reached into her soul and released that song. It touches something in all of our souls to listen to her. I just know my heart soars every time I hear this audition. Oh, and I get a little teary eyed too. I try to watch this at least once a day because it lifts me up so much. OOOPS.....Just for the record, I accidentally signed in under my husbands name. D.D. Maurer left this. ( My husband, God love him, is about as sensitive as a Tiger shark.LOL
What an inspiration! Susan, on that day you taught the shallow cultures and looks-obsessed societies around the world the most valuable lesson. Thank you so much for humbling and elevating so many of us. I know you taught me to never again judge someone's potential by shallow standards. From sneers to cheers, from outsider to outshiner, you truly have conquered the world, "Susan Boyle from Blackburn, West Lothian". No doubt your mom would have been endlessly proud of you, as are all of us! Thank you 🙏
The whole thing was set up. Simon and producers had already heard her. Ant n Dec even knew. The reaction overhyped a Better than average singer. what annoys me is we are supposed to be amazed because she looks (here anyway) opposite of what this very media tells us what is supposed to be attractive. Its basically saying "wow this old boot can sing - isn't it amazing" the judges pantomime acting rounds it off. The setup VT made her look like a sad loser. They then edit her pre song talk to make her look as sad as possible - they TURNED the audience against her to start - THEY MANUFACTURED this emotion in the crowd and the viewers at home. it makes me feel ill how much Simon Cowell manipulates people.
My kids were in the audience that night , when they come home they told me i needed to watch the Britains Got Talent on TV as this lady was brilliant ,when i did watch it i had a tear in my eye , and still do every time i watch it

As of 2018, Susan Boyle was worth about $40 million US dollars! SHE DESERVES IT!!
Exactly. So she can two-finger all those bitches in the audience and say: "Screw *_YOU!!"_*
That first young girl they panned to in the audience just seemed like the biggest bitch ever lol
@@kevinjohnson7300
The girl has had stick ever since. She was one of many doubters unlucky enough to be singled out. She had been there all day and no doubt expected more rubbish. Give her a break you know nothing about the lassie so don't comment such scathing attacks on the poor girl. Shame on you.
@@charge61 nah she still seemed like a bitch, and so do you defending her

no kidding
I often watch this when I get depressed. It’s so uplifting & inspirational. The look on Susan’s face right before she sings really gets me: she is about to transport herself to a world few of us get to visit. You can tell how much she loves singing. Bravo, Susan. And thank you.
Elaine Snow Would you kindly give your opinion for my voice? I would love to hear what you think. You seem to have a great ear for voices. 🙏
I love her. That no matter what had gone on in her life, she still had that smile and beautiful sense of humour.
I too listen to this if I'm in need of inspiration or a little pick-me-up.
So do I x
Me to
Look at this. LOOK! It's efforless for her! It's like breathing. That voice comes out without a tiny bit of struggle. Unbelievable. This is something you are born with.
Yeah but you also work for it and take years of lessons
You're a fucking idiot. No one is born with that voice. Do you think a baby can sing like that? That's the result of a fuck load of practice.

You mean Got Talent History...there a American one too
Two-Face : I know there is an American version of this show, but this is clearly Britian's Got Talent. It says so on the stage.

Brava Susan!
@Susan Kerr yes we know that. The whole loint is saying leople in general judge by looks..that if you dont fit the mold of slim fit and hot then no one will take you seriously as in this case it was quite the opposite.
Why you sit on bread?
I hope you enjoyed your time in my country sir.
And you decided from that point forward; never to judge a book by its cover again
almost 10 years later still the best audition that set the stage for creating drama due to low expectation.
10 yrs on and coming back to watch this still makes me get tears in my eyes.
The greatest moment in television talent history. I bawl my eyes out everytime I see this. Her voice, her humor before hand, and her emotion afterwards, and the emotion of everyone watching her just be her. Susan you are incredible!
The audience was awful. Simply not okay to be so damn judgemental.
aren't you judging with your post? Also, have you never been judgemental and often got it right and a few times got proved wrong? humans are what they are; the day we admit what we are and look at ourselves in a mirror without filtering devices, only then will we be able to evolve respect others and respect our environment.
humans are what they are nothing more and certainly less than what they think they are. You are another proof of that with your comment.
I agree with one thing you said so: the crowd was awful and so we almost are thinking we are not...
daniel calvi there’s one problem with your comment.
The audience and judges whilst seemingly judgemental on the onset weren't 'proven wrong', like everyone just needed time to appreciate, which they did and roared their approval..
.. and within a year she WAS singing with Elaine Page .. and singing better than her too !!
MrMousley who's Elaine Paige?

It was the most amazing performance that I’ve ever seen and never forgotten all these years later.
She wiped the arrogant pompous smiles off all three judges faces and many of the audiences faces. She taught many of us not to judge others on appearances alone. Susan Boyle, full of humility and inner beauty.
She deserves every ounce of fame that she's received since her audition. Beautiful voice , loved the look on Simons face!!
No one has ever deserved to win a national talent show more than her. Would have gone unnoticed for the rest of her life if it wasn't for this show...just because she doesn't look like your typical artist; unnecessarily dolled up just to 'look the part'.

Lilly Satou Actually if you watch carefully, a lot of the young girls in particular are pulling faces and laughing until Susan starts singing
I guarantee you that those reaction clips were taken from a completely different time during the show, at a time when Susan Boyle wasn't even on stage. The editors of these reality shows just throw unrelated clips together to make it look like they are related. Honestly, I doubt that really anyone in the building was against her at all.

And the Grinch's heart grew THREE sizes that day... lol!

Courtney Cole AGREED!!!!
Before she starts singing her personality is adorable---precious,
