I'm a seventeen-year-old girl and my fiddle teacher actually introduced me to Contra dancing when I was about 14 or 15 and I have to say dancing is the best time of my life I feel so free
My parents are both big-time dancers, so I've been doing Contra pretty much since I could walk. It's awesome.
I hope you're doing well.
We need this right now.
Yes, yes we do!
I visited Sunday dance there two weeks ago as I visited Baltimore (from Norway). Had great fun. I liked this video, it reflects the good vibrations of the event.
Thanks for this video, Doug! I still show it to people as a really nice example of contra; musicians, birds eye view of the formations, and people having a total blast. Doesn't get much better!
I have to do the Contra Dance at this camp thing I’m going to... oh boy 😅 wish me luck!
Looks like so much fun. I'm going to have to search my area for classes on this. Thanks for posting your video, big thumbs up
(This dance sequence is "Dr. Bluhm's Delight" by Rick Mohr.)
I love the music! The dancing looks fun but maybe too complicated for me. Maybe I could just watch😊
This is such an exciting and fun video and is my go-to share whenever someone asks me "what's contradancing?"
i wish i could be there now!
Looks like two cameras, one is a 5D. Nice work in any case, you are making some of the nicest contra vids out there!
Beautiful, where is that?
You're right, 2 cameras, both 5D's. I'll plant one on a tripod and roam with the other.
what are the names of the tunes?
Hi Doug ! Thank you so much for your videos. I just love contra dance, the music, the danse, I enjoy it so much !
I discovered it as I visited a friend of mine in the Maine.
Unfortunately I am french and I live in Haute-Savoie (half an hour from Geneva in Swittzerland) and, alas, there is no place where I can practice.
I was thinking that lots of people here should like it as much as I do and I could try to implement it in my place but I don't really know if it's possible and how. I would need to find musicians and persons who know the figures to explain them.
Any suggestion would be welcome...
Thanks again

I love the music. Love, love, love. Is this the kind of music they play at most contra dances?
You bet. Always to live music. You find a dance near you here: www.trycontra.com/
BTW the band is the Moving Violations from Western MA. They have three CDs which are all excellent. We love when they come to the eastern part of the state.
What's this kind of music called?
I think contra
The cows told me it was good mooooo-sic.
Oh man they're balancing weirdly.
the man @ 2:00
Isn’t this just like square dancing?
The individual dance moves are the same but the overall flow of the dance is different. Plus the people and the vibe are totally different. Check it out!...when it starts up again
One of the differences between contra dancing and square dancing is that to learn to contra dance you don't have to take a series of fifteen lessons to learn how to dance the basics--unlike square dancing.
Yes I am speaking from experience with both square dancing and contra dancing.
The way people dress these days is so goofy. No culture to it.
I would be so embarrassed to see this shit
I took a group trip to Appalachian State University years ago and we had the opportunity to learn this. As teenagers, we thought it looked cringey at first too--but it was extremely fun. I can't think of a single teenager who didn't have an absolute blast and we were dancing with people of all ages. Give it a try sometime and you'll be surprised at how soon you're grinning.
And yet you are watching this video…curious…?
Hahaha 🤣 I'm from Boone, NC and actually graduated from Appalachian State University! I used to dance with my boyfriend at a little contra dance group! We just had a total blast doing this! Sooooo much fun! @@willowakiokami
